BludgerTrack: 52.7-47.3 to Labor

Following Newspoll, the latest poll aggregate reading washes away the Coalition’s gains from the earlier polling since New Year.

This week’s Newspoll result had added 0.3% to Labor’s two-party reading on the BludgerTrack poll aggregate, and added one seat to their national on the seat projection, the gain being in South Australia. The biggest change on the primary vote is an improvement for One Nation, who reversed a weakening trend over the past few months with the latest poll. Newspoll also recorded a weakening in Malcolm Turnbull’s personal ratings, but evidently the aggregate had this priced in already, as the trend results show little changed on last week. As always, full results on the sidebar.

  1. “This has always been about the incredible privilege that I’m so humbled by, to have been, the Deputy Prime Minister of Australia.”

Have been? Sounds like a resignation speech!!

  2. workmanalice: Joyce: on Monday morning at
the party room, I will step down as the leader of the National Party and deputy leader of Australia. pic.twitter.com/PSgb9fzmw8

  3. I can’t agree more, Ratsak. I think you’re absolutely spot on.
Having dealt with Bill soon after he became the minister for disability services, I couldn’t be more impressed with the way he worked with the sector. I would credit him for being one of the main drivers of getting the concept of a national insurance-type scheme onto the radar. Collaborative, emphatic and sincere would be the three words I would use to describe his persona that I and many others witnessed in those years. I really can’t wait for him to become PM and lead what looks like a very high performing team, which will be allowed to perform!

  4. Joyce says he will remain in the seat of New England. He has no plans to remain as a minister. He’s writing a book and is expecting a baby, he says.

Will he refrain from sniping, like Tony Abbott promised he would?

No, I won’t snipe. I have a lot of things I need to do. I’m currently in the process of writing a book

about precisely the people I was talking about and I want to make sure I get that concluded. I want to assist my colleagues where I can to keep their seats and also, quite naturally, in April, a baby will be born. I’ll have other things on my mind.

  5. What shame Barnaby finally showed some common sense.

He could have done so much more damage if he stayed there. 🙂

  6. What a Dill the Beetrooter is. At least he’s seemed a lot less pickled than usually the last week or so.

As most of us knew from the first Tele front page, this was always going to be the result. But he’ll be dead lucky if it’s the end.

  7. Asher_Wolf: You see, this is why I have a love/hate relationship with the gig economy. Gives me too much time to plot the downfall of the government. twitter.com/ellipsii/statu…
ellipsii: @Asher_Wolf @Firedingo Props for your work in the last few weeks 🙂

  8. Joyce will not be able to help himself. Him and his supporters will know full well who has been leaking to the DT against him. Turnbull has no reason to rest easy today.

  9. The Riverview boy from a rich farming family painting himself as a protector of marginalised rural people living in weatherboard and iron.

    Gimme a break

  10. GrogsGamut: Sounds like one of The Go-Betweens discarded tracks twitter.com/ben_hr/status/…
ben_hr: “Weatherboard and iron” has never been so mangled before. I’m loving all the “who are the weatherboard nine?” tweets.

  11. Joyce will stay as member for NE but I would think that will be most likely only till the next election.

Given his personal circumstances he will need to find a better paying job than the backbench.

Does he run off to the resources industry or gamble on the coalition somehow retaining power and his return to the ministry?

That would be a big gamble.

And I see he has another shot at the media. Well Barnaby, if you had been up front about your marital difficulties last year the DT would never have gone stalking Ms Campion.

Anyway, good riddance, though I doubt your replacement will be cut from a different cloth.

In nature, what goes round comes round.

  13. I’m loving all the “who are the weatherboard nine?” tweets.

Glad it isn’t just me who thought he was going on about the weatherboard 9!

  14. LindaWhiteASU: Mills & Boon publishing? twitter.com/andrewbrownau/…
AndrewBrownAU: Barnaby says he’s writing a book as well

  15. Turnbull comes out of this as strong and right.

Now we can resume normal programming and enjoy the upcoming defeat of Labor in Batman.

    bemused,

Kearney must be pulling her hair out re factional ruckus going on in Vic Lab (even though issue is state-based).

    https://www.theage.com.au/politics/victoria/the-somyurek-incident-labor-s-worst-enemy-is-itself-20180222-p4z1b0.html

Yes, this is the story of the day, right?

Pegasus is an obsessive compulsive. She can’t suppress the urge to purge her hatred of anything Labor.

  17. Andrew Probyn just said that Barnaby Joyce didn’t even ring Malcolm Turnbull to tell him he was resigning. He rang Matthias Cormann!

    #BadBlood

  18. Whoever said Trump would anger tweet against CNN after the town hall was spot on.

“School shooting survivor says he quit @CNN Town Hall after refusing scripted question.” @TuckerCarlson. Just like so much of CNN, Fake News. That’s why their ratings are so bad! MSNBC may be worse.

  19. Turnbull comes out of this as strong and right.

Barnaby couldn’t even be bothered informing him of his resignation as DPM.

    Strong and right my ass!

  20. kakuru

Brick veneer off course. But they are spreading like a disease around rural centers taking up hectares of arable land. Anyhow, that’s what I’ve seen around the lower Hunter, not sure about NE. The white ants ate most of the weatherboard homes years ago.

  21. bemused

10 candidates on the ballot paper with Kearney @ #2 followed by Bhathal @ #3.

Labor with the donkey vote. Every bit helps.

  22. workmanalice: Malcolm Turnbull reacts to Barnaby Joyce stepping down: “I thank Barnaby for his service as Deputy Prime Minister and in his various Ministerial roles in which he has been a fierce advocate for rural and regional Australia.”

  23. The absent father to reorder his priorities … by writing a pot-boiler suring up his legacy and hanging out with simian dropkicks on the backbench.

  24. TonyHWindsor: Offences against women are unforgiveable , the avalache of harassment issues had started …think about the women you have damaged not about yourself .
