Newspoll: 53-47 to Labor

Relief for Malcolm Turnbull from Bennelong, but none from Newspoll, which records yet another stable result.

Courtesy of The Australian, the final Newspoll of the year is something of a non-event, with two-party preferred unchanged at 53-47, primary votes unchanged at 36% for the Coalition, 37% for Labor and 10% for the Greens, and the only move being a one point drop for One Nation to 7%. Malcolm Turnbull’s personal ratings are also unmoved, at 32% approval and 57% disapproval, while his lead as preferred prime minister shifts from 39-33 to 41-34. Bill Shorten is down one on approval to 32%, and up two on disapproval to 56%. The poll was conducted Thursday to Sunday from a sample of 1669.

  1. Chester issued a statement on Twitter stating that he supports the government and will focus on roads, youth suicide and ice [presumably in Gippsland] and that we need to pull together as the LNP.

Hundreds of posts ago, I found the energy arguments far too technical (and disjointed) to follow, and was promptly reprimanded.

Chester issued a statement ……….that we need to pull together as the LNP.

    ******************************************************

If they quit pullin’ and started governing we would all be better off ……

  4. The energy arguments are all well and good….but do very little to build the political energy needed for change…To achieve change, the LNP have to be defeated. The protagonists are more concerned with defending their own rhetorical positions than changing the government. Pity.

It is available on my iPad through “the Canberra Times for my iPad” app (it even has a timer). However, I have looked on my Mac PC and it does not seem to be there. Sorry if I raised your hopes.

Briefly the thing is it is all happening even with government policy being in a total mess.

It was SA that installed the big battery that proved that concept was a goer; it was AGL that told the government to take a running jump the economics don’t stack up. For all it’s issues it is the energy market that is closing coal fired power station.

There is no doubt it would be cleaner, faster and less risky if it was all done under sensible government policy; but it is all still happening.

If it is like the apps for other Fairfax papers, it is iPad only. Not even an Android version.

  9. The findings of the year-long investigation by commissioner Timothy Pilgrim, released to BuzzFeed News last week, has revealed serious shortcoming in the department’s handling of information requests, and affirmed that there was a “hold” on requests about Nauru.

The investigation found that all requests from journalists and MPs are treated as “significant/sensitive”, and are routinely subject to lengthy delays in breach of freedom of information laws.

  10. So Chester, a more moderate Nat gets dumped for Littleproud a member of the loony northern branch.

I think Littleproud’s one achievement in Parliament is that he was 1 of the 4 that voted against the SSM legislation.

I’m glad Turbull has grabbed all his recent “successes” to push for a more progressive position.

So, 2 of the more progressive ones out (Brandis and Chester, 3 if you count Sinodinos) and none in.

The energy arguments are all well and good….but do very little to build the political energy needed for change…

As one of the main energy “protagonists”, I would like to point out that I tend to join existing discussions to discuss flaws in the governments energy policies (such as the one released today, and initially posted by guytaur) or to discuss some aspect of interesting links posted by BK or others that relate to energy policy. I rarely initiate discussions, and I rarely post unsolicited links.

The other main “protagonist” just posts daily advertorials for a commercial web site that sells solar panels and batteries.

If you don’t want to see posts by one or both of us, scrolling or blocking is an option. I myself have to put up with interminable posts about how Trump is the best president the US could ever possibly want, or about how the Greens are the most moral and ethical political party on this or any other planet, or how modern monetary theory is the answer to all our woes, or how Rudd was the greatest PM Australia has ever had and who was cruelly cut down in his prime by that awful Gillard woman, or …. but I guess you get the point!

  12. ‘Preparation of the battlefield’: Intelligence expert likens Fox News’ rhetoric to ‘psychological warfare’

MSNBC intelligence analyst Malcolm Nance on Monday told “The Beat” host Ari Melber that Fox News’ descriptor of special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation as a “coup” is “almost psychological warfare.”

They’re trying to say that the entire framework of the Unites States government’s system of removing a president or finding out dirt about a president, that in itself is tantamount to a military force removing people in power,” he continued.

“This is not a coup, and this language is dangerous,” Nance added.

The counter-terrorism expert added that although Fox News has “a right to free speech,” the network does not have a right to “sedition.”

“They don’t have a right to undermine the Constitution of the United States,”

    Bullshit.
It is an unpaid blog maintained by Giles parkinson, an energy expert with a particular interest in decarbonising the planet and the energy transition.
He does provide ad space for solar companies etc, but I would suggest the pickings are meager, as any blogger who tries to monetise their site will attest.
I am currently being served a solar ad on PB right at the moment. This doesn’t make PB a commercial website selling solar.

P1 is not complaining about the pics you occasionally run promoting her eco-tourism resort.
    Is that advertising?

Touched a nerve, eh Trog? It would probably be a lot simpler if you just told Giles to advertise here directly.

The blood on the carpet in the PM’s reset/renaissance/reshuffle trilemma is a hint that the secret coalition agreement must contain the pledge:
“I, Malcolm, hereby give my loyal Coalition deputy Barnaby permission not only to call all the shots but also to be a vindictive prick.”

  21. A very close eye by the opposition might be kept on the dealings of ministers McVeigh (Regional Development) and Littleproud (Agriculture and Water) who’ve curiously come from nowhere.

    I don’t believe that!!!

Being a vindictive prick is a given and would never need to be written down!!!
