Galaxy: 54-46 to Coalition; Nielsen on preferred Labor leader

GhostWhoVotes reports that Galaxy and Nielsen have dipped toes into the murky polling waters, the former with a complete set of results and the latter with numbers on preferred Labor leader. Galaxy’s poll was conducted yesterday and today, and the voting intention figures are essentially unchanged on the previous poll four weeks ago: the Coalition two-party preferred lead is unchanged at 54-46, from primary votes of 34 per cent for Labor (unchanged), 47 per cent for the Coalition (down one) and 12 per cent for the Greens (unchanged). Interestingly, a question on voting intention if Kevin Rudd were Labor leader has produced far less dramatic results than when Nielsen conducted a similar exercise last September. The Coalition lead would narrow to 51-49, a three-point improvement in Labor’s position rather than the 10-point improvement in Nielsen.

On preferred Labor leader, Nielsen has it at 58-34 in Rudd’s favour (it was 57-35 at the poll a fortnight ago) compared with 52-26 from Galaxy (52-30 a month ago), suggesting the two were doing different things with respect to allocating respondents to the undecided category. Galaxy’s result points to a dramatic swing in favour of Rudd among Labor supporters, from 49-48 in Gillard’s favour a month ago to 53-39 in Rudd’s favour now. That the shift among all voters is less dramatic presumably suggests that support for Rudd among Coalition supporters has dropped.

The Galaxy poll also finds that 57 per cent believe the independents should force an early election if Rudd becomes leader, but it is not clear how many would prefer that in any case. Full tables from Galaxy here.

[David Marr is in love with Julia because she’s letting the boat people come to this country unhindered ]
Well there ya go.Never picked you as a Pies or Bolta fanboi.

  2. Poor Gillard and Swan: Even during QT, the cameras will constantly be focused on a certain newly made backbench MP.
Perhaps Julie Bishop will ask the member for Griffiths a question? 😉

  3. [Rudd kept raising new agendas, even though \”the money was never there to buy reform in these areas, and major reprioritisations and reorganisations could not be risked in the shadow of an election.]
I have heard Ken Henry use the term \”buy reform\” before, so my wild guess is that Oakes leak is from Ken Henry.

I spent three years fighting a narcissist. I was completely in the right and eventually won all the cases/investigations etc. (there were five).

I learnt an awful lot from it including how to “blow up” a narcissist.

My best advice is that they are incurable and that life is too short and precious to deal with them. Avoid them at all costs.

  5. This little black duck

    Went this am
Laid my eyes on the car. Did not even consider arguing price.

    Bought it.

Has everything one could imagine. Fully factory serviced, books, 68500, cooled glove box for chocolates

    Immaculate.

    Leather seats.

  6. [evan,

Nothing like despicable playing the man tactics for those who you dsapprove about.

You really are a lonely goatherd.]
Hi Mr Growler, did you enjoy having sex with your boyfriend?

(BTW, I think you two should be able to marry.)

  7. DavidWH,

Obviously they were blinded by the polls during that period.

That is not the impression I got from what the PM said today. She said wtte that the government had become unworkable.

If you remember rightly, at that time PB had information that it wasn’t the polls but the imperator complex of the boss.

[The first time i realised there was something not quite right with Kevin was when he refused K Keneally’s greeting. At the time we made excuses that he didn’t hear but really it was sociopathic behviour.

I remember that incident and yes, I agree with your assessment]
That ain’t nothing compared to his chosing Cate Blanchett’s baby over the funeral of John Button.Bastard

  9. greentard,

That’s a pretty amazing comment for someone with a couple of cucumbers stuck up their arse.

I hope you can control the bile in that dialysis machine, comrade.

  10. [gtard

    why the grumps?]
I\’m not grumpy. I just found it somewhat incongruous that Mr Growler chastised a fellow Poll Bludger for a personal attack when earlier this evening he said things about cucumbers and my anus.

What Mr Growler does in his bedroom with his long term male sexual partner is none of my business, but it behooves him to follow his own advice instead of reverting to personal attacks.

  11. [That’s a pretty amazing comment for someone with a couple of cucumbers stuck up their arse.]
Oh dear. It seems Mr Growler\’s sex with his boyfriend wasn\’t quite fullFILLing.

  12. Nite Boys and girls – considering ALL of today’s revelations, I REALLY think Rudd would be best off slinking off into the night. And that’s what I expect he’ll do.

We thought the media was doing a job on the PM – well it ain’t nothing to what’s being done to Rudd. His chickies are coming home to roost, and they’ve already been plucked!

I just hope those caucus members who were thinking populist and not substance, take in ALL the media that has been printed/presented.

Now all we need is for the media to do a similar job on ole Tone!!!!

  13. $13500 for goodness sake.

The seller has a rare cancer, can no longer drive, cannot work, thus cannot earn. Not that I knew this before I offered the asking price. He says he is beating it, but it must be crap to have to deal with.
Lovely guy. He practically kissed the bank cheque. I kissed him.

  14. I’d trust Glen over the people here who predicted that Rudd would get 4 votes – what happened to that supposedly impeccable source of My Say?

  15. Mr Carney’s article appears to assume that Mr Rudd is sane, if somewhat incompetent. it implicitly ignores Mr Rudd’s destabilization campaign.

It is high time that we had a competent journalist take on the topic of just how a political party should deal with an individual who is not the full quid but who is very clever at manipulating public opinion.

  16. Greentard @ 374:

I learnt an awful lot from it including how to “blow up” a narcissist.

    How did you do it?

You tell them they might become PM again if the parrot Tony Abbott’s talking points… <egotist head swell>

  17. Greentard

I can’t go in to details but I learn a lot from a book Malignant Self-Love by Sam Vaknin. He is a self admitted narcissist and wrote the book from prison as a way of assuaging his conscience.

He tells you how to do it.

  18. [On Galaxy and Neilsen labor lose 10 – 15 seats. Bad but not unrecoverable]

What, we only have to have a poll published and pollies lose their seats now?

  19. Boerwar with the character assessments again!
How about a psychological profile of Julia Gillard? That’d make for fascinating reading.
    Or better yet…….Wayne Swan.

  20. OC

About 2% of the population have fully blown narcissistic or sociopathic personality disorder.

A much higher % of CEOs and high flyers from all fields have it.

    [poroti

    lets try and stay classy]
Ok the.I should have said ‘Bustard’ . Fact remains he chose a photo op with Cate’s baby rather than the funeral of a Labor elder. Sorta tells ya something about the man.

  22. A bit of a conv Poss and WW:

    Lyndal Curtis
@Pollytics a question for you. What’s the impact on the remainder of the poll if you release figures mid poll?

    Possum Comitatus
@lyndalcurtis Since most folks either don’t a) read papers or pay attention,or b) otherwise give a toss – not much in Australian experience

    Possum Comitatus
@lyndalcurtis Sometimes it can be an issue if it’s a highly charged view that’s a *new* issue. But here, folks minds have been set for yonks

    Lyndal Curtis
    @Pollytics thanks.

I could warm to WW if she keeps up being interested in this stuff.

  23. poroti

look i am only saying lets keep to the politics

the ephemera is the domain of the msm

(that said, i agree with ur sentiments- tho feel it not in the realm of pure political discussion)

  24. [A much higher % of CEOs and high flyers from all fields have it.]

Indeed. The ‘symptoms’ are often seen as good solid personality traits required of someone in a high powered position.

Sixty per cent of Labor voters believed Mr Rudd had been a good PM before he was dumped in June 2010.]

Yeah and I was one of them. I was a bit puzzled why he hadn’t moved on climate change and forced the issue with the ETS politically, but of course, I didn’t know then what I know now: That he was a useless administrator and that the Government was log-jammed on account of his incessant fuarking around and indecision.

I also had no idea he was such a rude obnoxious pri*k to everyone who worked with him and that this in and of itself was causing problems with policy implementation both within the Government and also the highest levels of the public service.

In short, I had no idea that my Gilded Hero was such a useless wangker.

Had I known this, I would have whole-heartedly supported him getting the boot at the time he was tossed.

    Wouldn’t you TP?

Or do you approve of clueless, gutless and indecisive leaders gumming-up the works of Government?

  26. Having worked across a number of organizations, I have found the worst type of management to be a a person that was completely likable as a person but as a manager was a nasty lying little so n so micro manager .

They are very good at telling you what they think you want to know but are nothing short of nasty.

What I have heard about Kevin and not just from the media but people that have actually liaised with him during his Prime Ministership reminds me of that former manager
