The weekend edition of The West Australian has results of a ReachTEL poll of federal voting intention in Western Australia, presumably conducted on Thursday night. It shows Labor with a lead of 53-47, which if borne out would amount to a 7.6% swing compared with last year’s election. I’m not sure about a federal poll conducted in the immediate aftermath of a state election, but there it is. More detail to follow.
UPDATE: After exclusion of 3.2% undecided, the primary votes are Liberal 38.7%, Nationals 5.1%, Labor 35.7%, Greens 11.6% and One Nation 5.3%. The poll also finds Malcolm Turnbull leading Bill Shorten 54.5-45.5 as preferred prime minister; Turnbull rated very good or good by 29.3%, average by 37.2% and poor or very poor by 33.5%; Shorten respectively coming in at 27.7%, 36.7% and 35.6%; and 75.5% rating it very important, 17.0% somewhat important, 5.6% “indifferent” and 1.9% not at all important that Western Australia get a bigger share of GST revenue. The poll was conducted on Thursday from a sample of 1554.

Nathan Lyons test bowling average, strike rate and economy rate is almost identical to the chap he replaced – Nathan Hauritz. Although Haurits batting avaerage is about twice that of Lyon.

Yes that is certainly the analysis needed, for both demand and supply. You would think that the Federal ministry, AEMO, and all the players are already doing it. Surely Turnbull and Frydenberg have received such analysis? So why can’t the rest of us see it?
BTW you were correct about Splityard Creek being able to do pumped hydro – I had not known that. However it is not clear to me how the capacity could be increased. We need to see a lot more of these details to know if Snow Job is a real solution or not.

As I understand it, the Gold Coast Desalination Water Treatment Plant is kept idling (i.e. it is not in mothballs) and produces water from one of its modules in turn every fortnight thereabouts so that it can on demand and reliably ramp up to full capacity of 125 ML per day within a very short time period – less than 48 hours possibly.
I am not sure what was happening at Wonthaggi with mothballing or idling the Victorian Desalination Water Treatment Plant, BUT lucky that the Napthene Government didn’t have the RO membranes removed and throw out with the rubbish. That is what the Newman Government did in Queensland with the water reclamation plants (treated wastewater to indirect potable re-use water) that formed the treatment component of the substantially large Western Corridor Water Scheme, all of the RO membranes were trashed. It is at least 18 months to 2 years to reinstate the plants the next time there is a serious drought in SE Queensland and indirect potable re-use of reclaimed wastewater is needed.
