The latest Newspoll from The Australian records only minor changes on three weeks ago on voting intention, with Labor’s two-party lead in from 58-42 to 57-43 from primary votes of Labor 37% (up one), Coalition 28% (up one), Greens 12% (down one) and One Nation 11% (up one). Anthony Albanese is up two on approval to 47% and down two on disapproval to 48%, while Sussan Ley is down one to 31% up two to 51%. Albanese’s lead on preferred prime minister is out from 51-31 to 52-30, The poll was conducted Monday to Thursday from a sample of 1264.
Newspoll: 57-43 to Labor (open thread)
Such changes as the latest Newspoll records maintain a pattern of rising support for One Nation and weakening personal ratings for Sussan Ley.
In answer to their question, the winner is Boerwar, like in all their posts

Now that PHON has eclipsed The Greens’ PV, can some journalist with an ounce of integrity get on the phone and ask them for their complete suite of policies, like they routinely do for The Greens? As far as I can make out PHON is a Potemkin party. It’s all about ‘the vibe’.
============
Last political cycle the Greens were regularly polling between 13-15%.
They’ve def come off. This is the 3rd 11% figure they’ve pulled in recent weeks following on from the Essential poll 10 days ago and the 14-Sep National Resolve poll.
I think they began some sort of a decline when Adam Bandt was demanding a 100% write-off of HECS debt on 7-Sep last year. This came in the aftermath of Chalmers announcing a 20% write-off, & it was clearly overreach on the Green’s behalf. Reason: It would’ve blown the budget to smithereens.
I think sensible Greens voters realised this was silly and may have moved their vote back to Labor.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Greens pull a single digit primary in the next year.
I think the Greens might be having some problems.
Per the “Hanson” vote – I’ll read other posters comments on this over the weekend.
Something is driving it up. I think they’ve eclipsed their 1998 former peak on this particular poll, but will wait until someone else confirms.
PHON are taking votes mostly off the Liberals and Nationals, basically voters who think that the Liberals are too liberal and left-wing.

Ah, the opposition leader of Venezuela. Good pick.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mar%C3%ADa_Corina_Machado
Apparently you get a peace prize these days for spending a decade trying to goad the United States into an invasion, funding death squads and starting a military coup of your country all because your party lost a fair election, when you were smashed in the primary by the people who went on to lose.
“The time has come to join forces, make the necessary calls and obtain the funds to annihilate Maduro.”
Very peaceful.
That’s even more nuts than giving the Peace prize to Trump. How has Maria Corina Machado advanced any of the objectives?. It’s as bad as the Archibald prize got when they were hanging the artists studio model as a significant person in Australian life
Trump can’t be too mad about Machado being picked – she opposes Maduro in Venezuela, has long connections with US Republican support, and apparently Rubio among others endorsed her Nobel nomination.
At the same time she’s won a long line of human rights prizes in Latin America and Europe for what she’s done so it’s hard for anyone else to object to her win.
Perfect choice really despite the lack of identifiable peace she has achieved. It’s kinda the Aung route to win the Nobel – be the long standing opposition to a dictatorship or one party state while being oppressed by them. There was a photo of Aung on the wall of one of my school classrooms for about 6 years….
It’s next year when the Nobel Committee, if the Israel peace holds, will have the most horrifying decision of their existence to make.
Re RFK and tylenol, best thing I’ve seen on socials is this:
70s baby indeed.
Eh, who really cares? Tomorrow Trump’s probably going to be so pissed off that he missed out on the gong, send a carrier strike group to invade Greenland and be like “Take that, Finland!”
Former One Nation Senator Rod Culleton faces jail after being found guilty of lying on his nomination form:-

Be interesting to see what sentence he gets.
“It’s next year when the Nobel Committee, if the Israel peace holds, will have the most horrifying decision of their existence to make.”
Netanyahu/Abbas joint win, no Trump.
Simple.
Machado won the top gong ‘for her tireless work promoting democratic rights for the people of Venezuela and for her struggle to achieve a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy. The prize will be presented at a ceremony on 10 December 2025 in Oslo, Norway’.
‘As of the 2025 prize, 19 women have won the Nobel Peace Prize. This is out of 105 awards given to 142 laureates, which include 111 individuals and 31 organisations.’ A Bravo-Zulu to her.
I think it is the Coalition who are losing votes to PHON.
As for the Greens, could it be that the more reasoned Greens voters have become fed up with the university politics the party has embraced in recent years and are parking their vote elsewhere?

According to PBO costings – $50 billion over the forward estimates, and $183 billion over the decade (that is wiping HECS debt + making uni free).

”Steve777 – per your Green calc. I believe it should be 88.12% to Labor (not 83%)”
83% (⅚) is a fraction I’ve been using for ages. It’s crept up over the last few elections. Maybe it’s now out of date.
A flow of 88% would mean Green preferences favour Labor almost as strongly as the old DLP favoured the Coalition. It would increase my Labor 2PP by about half a percent (which would still round to 54%).
============
No worries Steve777,
I use this link for my own calculations.
Link: https://results.aec.gov.au/31496/Website/HouseStateTppFlow-31496-NAT.htm
It has the Greens preferences flowing at 88.19% to Labor (sorry, not 88.12).
Anyway, each to their own.
Albanese & Wong have been effusive in their praise of Trump for the ME peace agreement. I think their public comments are warranted, and what they really think of Trump personally is neither here nor there.
Good luck with the Gaza peace holding, Trump hasn’t got the attention span to wait till next year, any more than the freaky SAD clowns in the Israeli coalition. Maybe Trump will double down on the dumbfuck attacks on Venezuela, and fight for Peace there
Stick that up ya jumper Trump:
BREAKING NEWS
The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided to award the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize to Maria Corina Machado for her tireless work promoting democratic rights for the people of Venezuela and for her struggle to achieve a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy.
As the leader of the democracy movement in Venezuela, Maria Corina Machado is one of the most extraordinary examples of civilian courage in Latin America in recent times.
Ms Machado has been a key, unifying figure in a political opposition that was once deeply divided – an opposition that found common ground in the demand for free elections and representative government. This is precisely what lies at the heart of democracy: our shared willingness to defend the principles of popular rule, even though we disagree. At a time when democracy is under threat, it is more important than ever to defend this common ground.
Venezuela has evolved from a relatively democratic and prosperous country to a brutal, authoritarian state that is now suffering a humanitarian and economic crisis. Most Venezuelans live in deep poverty, even as the few at the top enrich themselves. The violent machinery of the state is directed against the country’s own citizens. Nearly 8 million people have left the country. The opposition has been systematically suppressed by means of election rigging, legal prosecution and imprisonment.

Nadia ”I use this link for my own calculations.

Thank you I was trying to find that table.
From the SMH:
So much more deserving than Trump who doesn’t give a shit about peace or democracy or free and fair elections.
Bad day for tankies. Someone opposed to a dictator is lauded and the only American politician they like is snubbed.
Fess,
I think you are correct re Greens vote. I used to preference them ahead of Labor but gave up about 5 years ago in frustration at their counter-productive approach. I’m sure I’m not the only one. And their vote was probably held up last time by voters motivated by the Palestine conflict who won’t necessarily vote the same way next election

Maduro’s a Pol Pot brand of Despot. Machado’s lucky to be alive still after what he’s done over there for the past decade.
I always used to vote 1 Greens in the Senate, but haven’t done so in over a decade now. I think I’ve outgrown the Greens.
Kirsdarke:

The Committee most likely took into account the danger she’s been in, and with the Peace Prize, thought she might be safer. If you consider the colonising powers, the Spanish don’t have a very good track record – eg, South America & the Philippines. No offence to those of Spanish descent.
Fess & subgeometer
I agree with you re the greens declining support. I tend to think they have overestimated the strength of support above what is probably a core of 6-8%. After that core I think it’s more likely that many are soft greens voters (many of whom are traditionally from the Labor left).
The Liberal Party’s brand has become so toxic for young people that joining the Melbourne University Liberal Club is considered “social suicide”, club members admit.

========================
What I think the Greens should’ve done last year when the Treasurer announced a 20% HECS write-off, was for them to say, “we’ve dragged Labor kicking and screaming to the table”.
Bandt would’ve got some credit from his supporters.
What Bandt did instead, was overreach. He demanded Labor write off 100%. This was ridiculous.
What he should’ve done is wait for Labor (via Plibersek) to approve some coal mine expansion’s, and then gone “hammer and tong”, or “berzerk”, or “berzerko”.
On 22-Sep, 2024, Ms Plibersek approved the following mine expansions:
* Boggabri
* Caval Ridge Horse Pit
* Vulcan South, &
* Meadowbrook
I’m sure Mr Bandt, or the Greens, could’ve found a parrot that may be upset by the mine expansion.
All they had to do was focus on one mine and smash Labor all summer over it.
For unknown reasons late last year – they chose not to.
The Greens vote generally goes up when they focus on the environment.
That is their core raison d’être.
They’re in the position they are today because they have moved away for their core being, to other peripheral issues.

Yes, it is a popular choice. And I don’t think even Maduro would cause harm to a Nobel laureate.

Machado v Trump. And the winner is…
54?
It’s The Narrowing!
Well I see news.com.au didnt sensationalize it a all
“TRUMP SNUBBED: Nobel Peace Prize awarded to Venezuelan politician
Despite brokering a historic peace deal in Gaza, US President Donald Trump has not been chosen for the Nobel Peace Prize.”
IMO the Greens’ focus on Palestine, on Trans issues, on violent peaceful protests, and on being obstructionists rather than their rooting for free everything is what is costing them a per cent or two.
There go more Venezuelan boats… soon to be joined by some long ships…
The Greens have been captured by ‘The Groups’ as they are referred to in Democratic circles in the US. Short for Special Interest Groups. They have now focused their attention on keeping them happy rather than appealing to a less ideologically motivated slice of the electorate which is more generally concerned with the environment and other Progressive causes, but not to the exclusion of kitchen table issues that ‘The Groups’ are unconcerned with as they push their own barrows.
So does RFK jnr think there are no autistic Jewish females?
That news.com headline makes it sound like Trump can do something one day before they announce the winner of the Peace Prize and the panel should just drop everything for him so he can get it. That’s not how it works.
Flawless, they’re the ones whose mothers took Paracetamol during pregnancy. 🙄

The original Greens had a higher proportion of members who actually cared a lot about biodiversity. Not so much any more, it seems.

Sorry Mavis I have no idea what you’re referring to.
C@tmomma @ #1593 Friday, October 10th, 2025 – 9:07 pm
I’m not sure that the Greens are focusing on keeping the groups happy. The Greens have become the groups, and so they push their agendas as if they were mainstream agendas. One of the things that the Labor party has over the Democrats, the Greens in effect insulate Labor from the Groups.
Maria Machado is a very deserving peace prize winner. Fighting for fair elections in Venezuela can’t be easy.
Trump will get over it. Though I’d hate to be in Melania’s shows tonight.
