The poll that launched a million headlines, the 51-49 result from Ipsos (here’s my paywalled effort in Crikey), has had only a modest effect on the BludgerTrack poll aggregate, on which Labor’s two-party lead is down half a point to 53.3-46.7. The Coalition has recovered all of one seat on the seat projection, that being in Queensland. Despite the voting intention result, the Ipsos poll has actually led to a slight softening in Scott Morrison’s net approval and preferred prime minister trend readings, while Bill Shorten’s net approval result is all but unchanged.
Please note there is a thread below this one for all your Brexit discussion needs.
Had a brief look on the blog about 9;30 this morning. I see @cat has come out of her box and thinks it’s her site. Within the hour people are commenting on Bill’s charisma or lack of it as they see it. Bill will be our next PM, I do not think charisma is what we need.
I await to see what the day brings.
Or William Bowe and those ties!
‘sides, didnt Crabb once make snide comments about Gillards hair looking like a helmet?
Yabba from a while ago, it’s not so much what Turnbull could have done better because there were a number of things except his hands were largely tied by the toxic situation in his party. It’s more about what he should not have done if he was politically smart. Every time the Coalition has tried to wedge Shorten and Labor Shorten has turned it back on the Coalition.
Not So Briefly… bemoaning people to the left of him (just about everybody) issuing labels to denigrate. How about this for size? Anti Semite, thug, racist, fascist, skin head, extremist, Libling (I don’t know what that is exactly, but it amuses him). Now who is the member who constantly throws those labels around, some of which are amusing, but others are very offensive? I am not going to read your holier than thou pronouncements and leave then unchallenged, given your own tacky track record. You are a Hypocrite writ large! BTW, do you know what the psychological concept of transference is?

Who is this Tony Bourke fellow?
_______________________
He was a ‘top barrister’ with a ‘very fine legal mind’ in an alternate universe.
O no.
Ha, ha. ha.
I remember Tony Burke in the first year of law school at Sydney University in 1988 but not after that.
Admittedly I spent excess time at Manning bar as an undergraduate.
Maybe he was in the library ?
Some on just said that Catmomma was on the board this morning. Was she really? I thought she had picked up her bat and ball and gone home. Some on here really have a habit of doing that don’t they. Dame Nellie Melba had nothing on them, or John Farnham for that matter.
It’s very reassuring that Clem wants to denigrate me. I feel much better now. Thanks.
“Had a brief look on the blog about 9;30 this morning. I see @cat has come out of her box and thinks it’s her site. “
I was on this site around 9:30 this morning, as were a number of regulars and one or two occasional posters. I got no impression that anyone thinks it’s “their” site.
Stop calling people anti Semites and fascists and complain about others fixing labels that you disapprove of then.
Briefly is a signed up member of the Metoo movement.
Thank you again, Clem. Your kindness is touching.
He was over at the UNSW Squarehouse bar – that’s where it was at.
Steve777 @ #2261 Sunday, February 24th, 2019 – 3:56 pm
Thank you, Steve777. Apparently a person, being me, can’t try and get a post deleted that was deleted by the moderator last night. That’s trying to own the site apparently.
I am surprised that some here don’t rate Bernie Sanders as a serious contender in the Democrat primaries
Poll after poll rates him as the most popular politician in the US. His campaign machine from 2016 has been maintained and is ready to go and on his announcement of running he raised nearly $6 million in 24 hrs: more than double people like Harris and Warren. He started the $15 bucks an hour minimum wage and is credited with Disney and Amazon providing that to their workers.
Yes he has others who are advocating similar things but they are doing so because Sanders has made those positions mainstream. The original is always better than the carbon copy.
The other important thing is that unlike Hillary, Sanders gives Democrats and independents to go out and vote for something and not just against. In Michigan and Wisconsin that Hillary just lost in the General, Sanders beat her in the primary.

Apologies if I’ve verballed you re Burke. But, it must have been one of the other legal people that post on PB.

Seeing that Burke didn’t graduate until 7-8 years after 1988, maybe he was in another bar!
Crabb’s dress sense is something entirely within the bounds of her free, personal choice, hence appropriate for comment.
Having said that, I could not have been more specific in stating: “I couldn’t possibly comment on a woman’s appearance, BK.”.
C@tmomma, you have an indefatigable habit off going off half-cocked. Next time you accuse me of something, please check what I wrote before condemning me.
A lot of the trouble around here is caused by your apparent inability to get your facts straight (Tony Burke’s stellar legal career is another example). You also have an amazing skill at reading insult into words that have nothing to do with you, then launching into moralistic tirades against people who meant you no harm and probably couldn’t care less what demented bee you had in your bonnet from time to time.
You buy into everyone else’s disagreements, start demanding people behave as you dictate, fuel and perpetuate arguments and in your self-appointed role as PB Moral Guardian, generally make life very unfriendly and miserable for those here who are unfortunate enough to upset you. You never give up until everyone’s angry and shouting at each other, or have left the blog in frustration or disgust. Only that seems to make you happy.
I know I’m not telling you anything. Every single organization, club or group of like-minded people that you have ever been involved with is sure to have told you exactly the same thing.
In short, please put a sock in it, and butt out of other peoples’ business.

I’m in Launceston. While I am hoping for a Labor win, I am a bit concerned about the Liberal candidate – Bridget Archer. She is the current mayor of George Town and very popular in that area. Add it to the rusted-on liberals in Lonnie ….
I like Booker, Harris, Gillibrand, Klobuchar, Warren…and that’s just to start with. There’s a great list.

Just a week ago C@t was throwing GG under the bus, calling him all kinds of things and agreeing with William that he’s best not heard from.
GG’s love must be pure and strong!
this is what I know of Tony Burke….. his views and political positions have broadened since his days as a sda organiser that union would never have supported yes for same sex marriage Tony changed his mind to do so. Tony is very much on top of issues in relation to his portfolio including the whole issue of the Murray Darling Basin……. I don’t always agree with views but they are presented in a logical systematic way……… Labor in government will make sane decisions which all party groupings can live with Tony will be part of this process……. The matter of his religion is not something to be criticised….. to say he his catholic therefore a dlp fellow traveller is not right…..there are Catholics who support forms of socialism…. ” the preferential option for the poor”
….

Well of course its safe to change your mind once you’ve got a safe seat. Burke wouldn’t be the first SDA nominee who made out they were more orthodox to get a seat and then ‘moderated’ once safely ensconced.
stupid auto correct should be option
Burke is clever. He’s quick on his toes and sharp-witted; a worthy successor to Albo as manager in the House of Labor business.
He’s also very funny, especially in meetings of the party faithful, where he spares no Lib, most particularly Dutton, who he’s been known to mock hilariously.
It’s no surprise the Labor-hostile want to sully Burke, just as they hope to traduce Shorten.
I watched Tony Burke on Insiders this am and thought he performed well. Articulate, well across his portfolio, forensic on the MDB, quite clear on Labor’s position in relation to Adani and able to argue the point about Xmas Is..
What irked me the most about the program was the inordinate amount of time they spent talking about refugees and medivac.
Does an independent have any chance in Mackellar?

I am glad Sanders is running – I want all potential candidates to run. One thing that might hurt Sanders in the primaries is this graph from fivethirtyeight.com
And I am not “anti” Sanders – I often wonder whether he may have won the general election if he had been the nominee in 2016. I am looking forward to a vast open contest with Democratic Primary voters spoiled for choice, and eventually settling on a candidate who can win in 2020 (even if it takes a brokered Convention to do it).
Well said Bushfire Bill.
nath @ #2275 Sunday, February 24th, 2019 – 4:11 pm
Absolutely not. Why do you have to lie?
The truth, actually, is that other people were abusing GG and I posted about what a kind and generous man he is.
I’d love to say what I honestly think about you but I am not going to go down that road, suffice to say that, whenever you reappear, the blog goes downhill fast.
Let’s hope we have a Newspoll tonight to give people something to talk about – instead of sniping at each other.
Some of you really need to see the bigger picture…
I know nothing of the quality of Tony Burke’s BA. LlB. from Sydney University, but I do know that in 1994 he won the Martin Sorensen trophy for best speaker at the Australasian Intervarsity Debating Championships, something which probably helps explain his skill on the floor of parliament and elsewhere.

You can’t bloody well tell me what size of picture I should look at ! ………….. 😉

Yep. Tell me what I can and can’t do on the blog. Plus give your expert psychological analysis about my state of mind.
Nothing much ever changes with you, does it, Bushfire Bill?
Sorry, but I don’t take advice from you. Oh, and I’m not the one who went off with a vile post last night which had to be deleted by the moderator. It was you. Maybe you should have a good long think about that. Instead of targeting another couple of women again today.
Speaking of Newspoll, unless interrupted by something in my world, or ruled as too much by William Bowe, I will post the FULL LIST of Newspoll guesses at 5pm AEST (6pm AEDT) and, assuming past behaviour is repeated, again on the new thread after Newspoll is released. There are currently 85 guesses.

Rocket Rocket, unless I’ve missed something, Sander’s primaries lying nearly entirely below 50% would also be a factor in a FPTP system.
