BludgerTrack: 50.9-49.1 to Labor

Despite poor reviews for the government’s performance last week, a relatively strong result from Galaxy finds them reining in Labor’s lead in the weekly poll aggregate.

A lot of new data for BludgerTrack to play with this week, with Galaxy conducting its first national poll since the election, ReachTEL turning in its big-sample monthly robopoll for the Seven Network, Essential reliable as ever for its fortnightly rolling average, and Newspoll unloading its quarterly aggregates featuring state breakdowns (although none of this contributes anything new on leaders’ ratings). The Galaxy result was at the high end of the Coalition’s recent form in putting them even with Labor on two-party preferred, which has had the effect of reining in Labor’s lead from 51.8-49.1 to 50.9-49.1, and caused them to lose their majority on the seat projection. Labor is down one seat each in New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, Western Australia, South Australia and the Northern Territory. The big change on the primary vote is that the Greens have taken a hit after steadily inflating to a post-election high in last week’s result, the result of mediocre showings from Galaxy and ReachTEL, which have traditionally been quite strong for them. After applying bias adjustments, these are two of the four worst results for the Greens out of 32 results this year. I would think statistical randomness a more likely explanation for this than genuine responsiveness to anything that’s happened on the political stage of late, and while the high of last week was very probably inflated, it is equally likely that this an over-correction.

  1. From #1847 above:

[The Department of Immigration and Border Protection has been accused of monitoring a refugee advocate’s social media and publicly intimidating her, after demanding through Twitter that she remove a third-party post on her Facebook wall…

..a spokeswoman for the department said it would “not be appropriate for us to disclose how the post came to our attention…

On Sunday it was reported that public servants are now being urged to report any colleague posting political criticism either anonymously or publicly on social media, under new guidelines laid out by the prime minister’s office.]

Morrison’s ethic of keeping secrets from the public continues to spread whilst government monitoring of citizens also continues.

  2. I went back and looked who made the “no opposition threat” comment.

Surprise, surprise, good old Rex Douglas. The Broken Record. I have never heard a positive contribution from you Rex, so I put you in the same camp as Compact Crank.

    Just Scroll On By.

  3. Two of his more recent posts. If of any help.

  4. Any of you computer experts any ideas please

I have bought a new tablet which is supposed to be much better than my old one, which has just about karked it. It is much faster etc but having problems with wi fi reception in the upper part of the house, I didn’t with my old one. Both tablets Asus android the new one TF701T model I have read up about wi fi extenders but mostly the experts arn’t all that keen on them.

Any suggestions or does anyone have a wi fi extender they can recommend?

  5. The Liberals see FTAs primarily as a tool with which
to circumvent the political process in Australia and push their ideology. Other considerations come second.

  6. Poroti

I am sure they are having a quiet chuckle to themselves now.

BTW, am I as a taxpayer funding Packer to travel OS with this trade delegation?

Not a wi-fi extender, but I put high gain antennas on my router and that improved things significantly.

What make and model is your router?

  11. WA Voters have been had by the Palmer carpetbaggers they will discover this to late, the only person Palmer is interested in is himself.
Labor & Dave Kelly of United Voice & the shoppies should be shot for foisting that mug Bullock on us just because Joe thought he deserved 6 yrs of doing bugger all as his reward.
That is one of the major reasons myself and a lot of others could not bring ourselves to vote for that bum,I filled out all squares green 1 &2 Labor 3 7 4 Bullock 74 Liberals last

They may not be willing to tell you anything, but they may be prepared to phone the police for a welfare check.

  18. Well, good luck Mari. Depends who they are, but if they have a personnel unit or some such, they could disclose to the police, perhaps.

If that fails I’ll contact Putin and have ask Edward Snowden for Schnappi’s details.

  19. mari

Tell ISP why you worried and get them to get a response. If he responds get them to get him to send you a message. If no response ISP can decide to contact police to check on him.

    No privacy breach.

  20. It is about 4 years old so perhaps no longer made?? Has worked well, I just looked to and can’t find it either. Thank you for trying to help me

  21. Melissa Parke, Fremantle MP and of the ALP left who does not support off-shore processing of asylum seekers…
[…. said the very strong message she sensed at polling booths over the weekend to the major parties was “a pox on both your houses”.

While Labor leader Bill Shorten has pressed the need for party reform, including ending the requirement for party members to join a union, Ms Parke said the party should also examine its policies.

“People are wondering what we stand for and what we are prepared to fight for,” she told Fairfax Media]

    http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2014/apr/07/western-australia-election-is-this-a-new-moment-for-the-greens
[A Senate by-election in Western Australia is by definition an unusual event, and we should be wary about drawing sweeping conclusions. But Saturday’s result does seem to underline a growing trend away from the major parties, and towards minor parties of both the right and left. This gels with plenty of evidence from the social sciences, which has been warning of a growing dissatisfaction with politics as usual for decades now.

Between 1949 and 1996, the total Senate vote for the major parties never fell below 80%, even accounting for the DLP. In 2013, it was 68%. On Saturday in WA, even throwing in the Nationals, it was 59%. Voters are less loyal to the old Liberal-Labor dichotomy than ever. Tony Abbott and Bill Shorten would be unwise to ignore the warning signs.]

Mine is at least 8 years old and working fine. 😀

  25. I seemed to remember when a Liberal at his sensitive best said of PMJG father, at the time he passed away, that he must have “died of shame” or wtte.

What sensitive and caring comment might we expect from some Tory now Bill S’s mum has died?

The Compassionate Conservative is a myth but it makes their task so much easier when dealing with AS, as they of course, are not real people but unter mensch.

  26. Will the states agree to having the 50:50 rule for their leaders?

    I think it’s a good reform.

[Bill Shorten is calling for Labor to abolish the rule that forces party members to belong to a union and extend the 50-50 federal leader election model to the states as he warns the party must reform or become irrelevant.]
