Essential Research: 51-49 to Labor

As the shine comes off Labor’s recent polling surge in Newspoll and Nielsen, Essential Research has them finally moving into the lead.

As other polls appear to be heading back in the other direction, the slow-moving Essential Research has Labor finally breaking into a lead of 51-49, compared with 50-50 over recent weeks. Labor has cracked 40%, up one point on last week, with the Coalition down two to 41%, the Greens steady on 8% and the Palmer United Party up a point to 4%. Other findings gauge concern about employment (55% express concern they or someone in their immediate family will lose their job in the next 12 months, up from 47% in August 2012), car industry assistance (46% think the government didn’t do enough to maintain car manufacturing in Australia, compared with 36% who think it did enough), the government’s approval of the coal port expansion at Abbot Point and related concerns about dredging and dumping at the Great Barrier Reef (66% disapprove of the decision, 41% strongly, with only 17% approving), and respondents’ level of interest in Schapelle Corby (71% professing little or no interest). Results courtesy of Bernard Keane at Crikey, with the full report to follow shortly.

Shame is the only word. So much worse after being so proud for the last 6 years.

This makes Reith look good on immigration. He seemed to be restrained in comparison. Never words I thought I would be typing.

I must admit I am disappointed there was not one comment on my posting 1097 re the A/S children drawings. Twitter much different

I didn’t respond but it affected me deeply. I have seen a number of accounts of the suffering of children under the Nazis and reflected on the terrible trauma the parents must have felt not being able to protect them. It was a truly awful time in human history. And it seems there are still people today who have learnt nothing from it.

Perhaps it’s an unfair thing to say but I don’t have much trouble picturing Morrison in a trench coat and peaked cap, the way he’s been behaving lately.

Bzzzt. Now you have to put a dollar in the Nazi Analogy Jar. It’s getting pretty full.

I count at least 5 on manus island itself in recent days.

The Greens should be grossly ashamed for siding with an option that was always going to consist of torture from the Abbott government as opposed to the Malaysian Solution.

Oh the Malaysian Solution was inhumane – they cried!

Do refugees a huge favour and get your beloved loonies to stick to the woods.

Thank you, yes I am very upset as it brought back the memories of what I saw in Prague also in Warsaw and Auswitch

  9. The truth is emerging slowly.

[Former New South Wales energy minister Chris Hartcher and state MPs Chris Spence and Darren Webber have voluntarily withdrawn from the Liberal party while a corruption investigation is carried out.

The Independent Commission Against Corruption (Icac) is examining allegations the NSW central coast MPs corruptly solicited and concealed prohibited political donations in return for favours to those who made the payments.

The Icac announced on Tuesday it would hold a public hearing into the allegations starting on April 28.

In a statement on Wednesday the Liberal party’s acting state director, Simon McInnes, said the three MPs had “voluntarily withdrawn” from the party until the Icac proceedings were determined.

It is believed the party had already started suspension proceedings against the three MPs, who have only just nominated for pre-selection for their central coast seats.

Those being examined by Icac for alleged corrupt dealings include the former minister and two MPs, along with Timothy Koelma and Raymond Carter.

It has been alleged that staff members of Hartcher funnelled illegal political donations, including from prohibited donors, through a front company before the 2011 election.

The corruption watchdog is also examining whether Hartcher favoured the interests of the private company Australian Water Holdings after it allegedly made payments to Eightbyfive, a company set up by his staffer Koelma.]

No excuses. This is Liberal party. The only party that has anything in common with the liberals on this is the labor party.

So forget the Greens look at the reality of the liberals. Its not the Greens doing this and your attacking the Greens and not the Liberals for it excuses the liberals in what they are doing.

  11. Just what did they honestly think was going to happen to boatpeople under the Abbott government?

Are they (the Greens) for real?

    There’s your answer!

  13. More re Geelong crisis and the local Libs…….
    ____________________________

I have noticed the Lib MP for Corangamite having much to say on the media yesterday as the full extent of the disaster engulfing Geelong became apparent

Henderson had won Corangamite, recently from a Labor MP Sweetman… who had a poor name for laziness and incompetence when MP…a typical factional hack.,,who earlier had a poor record when a coucillor in Ballarat ,and yet he then got the selection and won Corangamite in 2010…always doomed and he lost to Henderson in 2013……………..but now the financial collapse in Geelong imperils Henderson’s new career as it has barely begun
She might have won in 2010 but for some personal opposition inside the Libs in Geelong over some aspects of her private life

Her mother was State member for Geelong in Kennett’s time but lost by a handful of votes …a loss that helped to bring Kennet crashing down(and poor old Jeff had spoken of himself as Honarary MP for Geelong too…so much did he love the place…and then the bastards gave him the boot anyway )

So now Sarah holds Corangamite..on Geelong’s western flank and she must be mighty worried so early in her career

I thought Henderson’s manner suggested that she might be like Sharman Stone in Murray and take a strong stand like Stone did over Ordmona….she was demanding Abbot/Hockey come to Geelong and do SOMETHING..tough words…but what Sarah ?
Is she another Lib MP who is growing very anxious over her seat…and so early in what she hoped would be her brilliant career too
Gotleibsen recenly spoke of Abbott being overwelmed by a Tsunami of job losses…here it comes I quess….

It’s a cruel world in politics Sarah

  14. Centre

You are so wrong blaming the Greens here you are in another universe.

Abbott won because Labor had a soap opera leadership. Thats it.

  15. [Why is Abbott government using KPMG when they are the company used by Labor for NBN ?
    ]

Based on their abysmal behaviour to date there is no doubt a kpmg partner that is liberal and had agreed the report will say what the govt wants. That’s what accounting firms do for clients.

  16. “@senthorun: It reveals a shameful lot about our government when the “freedom” to racially vilify is privileged above the freedom to seek asylum. #auspol”

  17. Centre….did you see how well the Greens have done

    in all the recent polls..???
    .great results
Holding up very well rock solid supports

rock solid vot too it seems… which Labor needs to win anywhere ,anytime in the future
    Go Christine and the rest

  18. Guytaur

When the new Senate takes its position in the upper house, the Greens will be saying goodbye to carbon pricing, investment in renewable energy and the mining tax (ooh yeah) in addition to already making the lives of refugees more miserable – they have done well!

Centre is unhinged. I use that term knowing full well how overused it is on this board, but in his case it actually applies. I often get the sense when he’s not posting here he’s ranging on a street corner between a sandwich-board, selling pencils from a paper cup.

  21. [“@latikambourke: Immigration Minister Scott Morrison says the asylum seekers details were online for ‘only a few days.’ @abcnews”]
Only one sperm got through out of millions. Not a big deal!

  22. Centre may be unhinged re Greens…. but not as mad a as Edwina St John who doesn’t know whether she/he…is male or female….clue…look down Edwina and you’ll see

  23. Bastard.

[Social services minister Kevin Andrews has ordered the gambling regulator to take a hands-off approach to policing withdrawal limits on ATM machines in gambling venues.
In a ministerial directive issued on January 29 this year, just days before the new enforcement of ATM limits came into effect, Andrews instructed the National Gambling Regulator “to take an educative approach to the administration of the ATM measure, rather than engaging in active monitoring of compliance”.

The regulator was also instructed to prioritise applications by pubs and clubs to be exempted from the law. More than 3,200 applications for exemption, on grounds that the law causes “unreasonable inconvenience to the community”, have already been received.]
