Newspoll in The Australian becomes the latest pollster to have One Nation leading on the primary vote, recording a four-point surge to 31% with Labor down one to 30%, the Coalition down two to 18% and the Greens down one to 11%. Anthony Albanese records his worst net leadership rating to date, with approval down four to 36% and disapproval up three to 60%, while Angus Taylor is down one on approval to 35% and down three on disapproval to 45%. Albanese’s lead on preferred prime minister is in from 46-38 to 44-38. The poll was conducted Monday to Thursday from a sample of 1240.

It probably explains why Albo tried to get the Voice into the constitution, rather than having it subject to legislation where an incoming Parliament could dismantle it very quickly.

Thanks Marh. It does feel like influence in Victoria. All my crowd are doing fine and are happy. Life ain’t perfect but we are well. No baseball bats out for Jacinta. Jess Wilson seen as a dress up merchant like Scomo. One Nation doesn’t really come up. But Victoria is a big state and all will vote in November.

With regard to the “Group Ticket Voting” arrangements in Victoria though, this is a completely different issue. Prem Allan has had report after report recommending it go, but she has failed to alter the current arrangements. I think she is a silly, stupid cow for dithering with GTV.
It needs to go, and preferably within the next 19 weeks.

With regard to the combined O.N. & LNP vote (52%), the end result is a fairly right wing Legislative Council if the Libs direct their preferences to O.N. and vice-versa. There will be minimal spraying of votes if GTV remains in place.

It’s very disappointing when it’s women who are using such insults against other women. Today’s young women, like today’s young men are not sending us their best people.
Though I’m not sure this new Victorian poll is pointing to anything resembling a close election, apart from the fact that it shows three parties with relatively similar primary votes. On those numbers, not only would there almost certainly be a change of government, but I think there’s an outside chance that the Coalition could scrape together a majority in their own right, leaving Labor and One Nation fighting over who becomes the next opposition.

Hanson has posted videos mocking the National Disability Insurance Scheme which includes offensive depictions of people with a disability and in the fairly recent SA election, she said that non-citizens can stand for local Government elections which is a lie and in July 2020, described people who lived in Melbourne public housing as drug addicts who couldn’t speak English.
There is also the financial “shenanigans” that have plagued her over 30 years that the media has hardly touched on.
Anyone that supports Hanson is either a racist or is as dumb as shit or both.

The most important issue in Victoria is the “GTV situation”, and it is critical.
Why is it important?
Jess Wilson plans a Royal Commission into the CFMEU & Labor. It will be branch stacked with Conservative lawyers, and the major theme will be to “Get Labor”, and try and wipe out some of their politicians. Getting a couple of CFMEU officials is chicken feed. The main target will be Labor politicians. Getting a majority in the Upper House eases the passage of RC legislation, without amendment.
What is at stake?
Albo has been pumping a lot of money into the Victorian economy of recent. $3.8b was taken from QLD and $1.7b from NSW. I’m guessing this is to prop up the Allan gov’t, and to try and avoid a change of gov’t in Nov. I understand the money is going into the SRL East project.
Why?
The last thing the Feds want is a nasty branch stacked RC in Victoria playing out during the next Federal election scheduled between Aug-2027 to May-2028.
Federal Labor holds 27 out of 38 seats in Victoria (high tide mark).
That is a lot of seats to lose. A Jess Wilson inspired nasty RC in Victoria designed to take down future Labor politicians/leaders, is the last thing Albo wants.
Forget about who is a witch, a bitch, or a lazy cow.
Allan needs to sort out the Vic Upper house voting arrangements and get rid of GTV.
Get on with it instead of wandering around like Brown’s cows.
Someone called Michaela Cash a Banshee the other day. No one had a problem with that.
That Qld poll from earlier today was LNP 34, ALP 25, ON 24 with a 2pp of 58-42. The Vic one has the Libs a fair bit lower, so it should have a Lib 2pp in the 53-55 range (this is very handwavey).
Not that the concept of uniform 2pp swing means much these days, but the Vic pendulum has a couple of dozen seats in the ALP 6-10% range. Assuming uniform swing, they could hold on to government while losing 49-51, but dial it up to 45-55 and it suddenly becomes worse than 1992. This poll seems to be in the middle of that range, so it’s hard to pick. I’d call it bad, but not apocalyptic. (That missing Green vote will help a bit.)
Bit of a ropey guess at 2pp in Vic: ALP = 23 + 7/25 (ON) + 17/25 (Grn/other) = 47% vs Lib. Actually not terrible, considering they’re coming third. Alternative 2pp vs ON is probably a bit better for them due to Green prefs being even more anti-ON than anti-Lib, although considering how much the SA pendulum got reorganised it’s hard to say what seats would flip.

Re group ticket voting in Victoria: getting rid of it isn’t just a matter of legislation. If the system used for the Senate were the chosen replacement, that would massively increase the number of ballot papers which would have to be individually processed during the scrutiny. In the Senate case, the AEC had to make a shift from data entering the numbers from ballots marked below the line to a system built around optical character recognition, a totally different process. (That they were able to do that successfully in a short time was one of their largely unheralded but remarkable achievements.) Changes to the basic software for preference distributions would also be required, and all of these new or changed systems would need to be tested thoroughly. And associated with this would have to be a lot of staff retraining, as well as a need for a significant public information campaign.
