Newspoll: 56-44 to Labor

Newspoll records another miserable result for the Coalition on voting intention, with a small amount of consolation for Scott Morrison on personal ratings.

The second Newspoll of the Scott Morrison era is no better for the Coalition than the first, with Labor maintaining its 56-44 lead. As reported in The Australian, both major parties are up a point on the primary vote, Labor to 42% and the Coalition to 34%. The minor party primary votes are still to come (UPDATE: Greens steady on 10%, One Nation down one to 6%). Newspoll skipped the personal ratings questions a fortnight ago, so its results this week are the first ever for Morrison, and the first in four weeks for Bill Shorten. Morrison is on 41% approval and 39% disapproval, while Shorten is up five on approval to 37% and down five on disapproval to 51%. However, Shorten has not replicated the 39-33 lead he recorded on preferred prime minister in the immediate wake of the leadership change, and now trails 42-36. The poll was conducted Thursday to Sunday from a sample of 1653.

  1. In regards to the other matter, that has been referred to as the Brisbane matter, to the best of my knowledge, I have not socialised met with, or had personal contact with the man involved, and in fact, I worked, I finished work with the Queensland police service in July of 1999. There were 5,500 police officers within the Queensland police service. He doesn’t have my personal phone number or email address.

So that photo of ‘Dutts’ and Keag on Insiders yesterday was inconsequential and proved nothing? Yeah right.

Okay then, so how did Keag get the sort of attention from Dutton that other people can only dream of? Dumb luck? I don’t think so.

Anyway, Keag doesn’t have to have Dutton’s personal phone number or email, just someone else’s close to him, like the former policeman from Queensland who works in Dutton’s office, so I understand. Then one thing can conveniently lead to another.

The terms of personal relationship used by the member for Melbourne signify a much closer relationship between two people than working in the same organisation two decades ago, and not speaking with each other since that time.

Not necessarily. A mate of a current workmate and a former workmate of both of them, is close enough.

Mr Speaker, I put on the record the following in regard to the matter: The individual did not have contact with me, in regard to this matter. He wrote an email to my publicly available email account, which can be accessed by anyone online. That email account is monitored by my staff. Staff member in my office asked me, whether I knew this person, my initial response was “who?” My staffer asked for information from the department to examine the facts. A staff member from my office sought further information through the DLO, and at no time did I speak with the ABF commissioner, the departmental liaison officer or any other member of the department regarding this matter.

So, who was the staff member who brought it to Dutton’s attention and what made him single out this particular request over all the hundreds of others?

Also, once appraised of ‘who’ that person was, obviously Dutton took action which delivered a favourable outcome.

In other words, Dutton’s statement to the House has more holes in it than Swiss cheese.

  2. Good afternoon all,

Dutton had made his statement to parliament. He is now fully locked in.

It all depends now on what Roman Q. has provided to the Senate inquiry and how he responds to the latest Dutton statement.

Perhaps some ” colleagues ” of Dutton may have something floating around and or some current and ex Immigration staff members.

    Cheers.

  3. If DC does become the 51st state, it would mess up the 50 stars on the flag. 🙂
I hope it will happen; the Republicans will oppose it, because it will lead to 2 extra Dem senators.

It’s all coming out this week. @AustralianLabor are onto this Dutton/Pisasale story and will get the details of the other 14 VISA interventions he has performed. One or more of these currently marked as “no details” will be on behalf of a request Paul Pisasale. #auspol #Dutton

  5. As discussed at some length on PB on the weekend…
Dr Bunsen Honeydew is a dead ringer for Brandis.
Beaker is, IMO, Turnbull. I dont have time to go into the detail again.

    Gonzo is Frydenberg. Obviously.

And so the more holes to fall through. Roman Q ain’t done yet either.

  7. What exactly do you mean by that?

The truth may be out there, but you can never be sure of exactly where it is atr any given moment and how fast it is travelling.

  8. ItzaDream,
And so the more holes to fall through. Roman Q ain’t done yet either.

And neither are Labor. Especially wrt Paul Pisasale and his penchant for importing ‘young Asian girls’ into Queensland.

  9. Interesting, RR. Hadn’t heard of Texas divisionism. The prospect seems unlikely – at least as unlikely as splitting up California.

  11. With MT gone and having seen the Putsch and its chaotic aftermath, I thought Murphyroo will be more critical, I mean more balanced with her commentary especially after her beloved NEG is ‘dead’. Alas old habits die hard.

Balls? On a blog? Thats just burley.
You dont need balls to say anything on a blog. In fact, the lack of internal fortitude and courage is often a prerequisite.

  13. We need a mechanism for parliamentarians to be referred to the High Court as it is clear that the chamber is always going to operate on the basis of partisan self interest

  15. Simon it is the second reference to Frydenberg as Gonzo I’ve seen and it’s not at all obvious to me. I’ve been wondering as well

Gonzo is not a puppet version of a human or a recognizable animal. He utilizes an awkward, non animal-like appearance, which includes purple-blue fur, purple feathers on his head, bug-eyes, and a long, hooked nose, referred to as a “beak”

I think Simon was relating Gonzo’s ‘hooked nose’ to Frydenberg’s Jewish heritage. So there you go guys. Straight from 1930’s Munich to PB in a flash.

  17. Of course he wouldn’t be excplicit, though he said the resemblance was ‘obvious’. It was also obvious that he is an anti-Semite and a turd.

  18. I don’t think it matters if Labor’s strikes at Dutton are defeated, it’s the number and continuity of attacks that count, IMO.

  19. Sheesh! I am rushed. Briefly….
It is the stare. That blank look where the mouth moves but the face is still. I see a strong facial likeness.
He talks like Gonzo hyptonizes chickens. Only he seems to be completely hypnotised himself.

Not to mention the stunt man bit. ‘Watch me pull a NEG out of my arse’.

  20. kakuru

They were so desperate to get the “Republic of Texas” into the Union they made lots of allowances. I think another one was that Texas kept most revenue from natural resources (much more so than other states), which with all the oil found a few years later proved very beneficial, and is a big reason behind many well-funded state universities.

Now I understand your ‘balls’ post.
I had absolutely no idea hooked noses are a jewish trait. I had forgotten Frydenberg was jewish – I am not even sure I was aware of it at all although I do recall his parents fled nazi germany.

I think the ‘hooked nose’ reference has been around for a lot longer than “1930s Munich”. Wasn’t Dickens’ character, Fagan, in Oliver Twist, portrayed with a hooked nose? Certainly was in the musical movie of the same name. Shakespeare didn’t hold back on Jewry in his writings but I can’t recall if he ever used a ‘hooked nose’ reference. There must be more literate people than me on this website who can help with the reference. Help!
