Newspoll: 53-47

The Australian reports the latest fortnightly Newspoll has Labor’s two-party lead at 53-47, up from 52-48 last time. Both parties have dropped a point on the primary vote, Labor to 39 per cent and the Coalition to 40 per cent, with the Greens steady on 12 per cent. Kevin Rudd’s personal ratings are now those of a political mortal: his approval is steady on 50 per cent, but his disapproval has crept up another two points to 40 per cent. Tony Abbott’s dicey ratings have improved, his approval up three to 44 per cent and disapproval down two to 37 per cent. Rudd’s lead as preferred prime minister is down from 58-26 to 55-27, equalling a poll conducted during Malcolm Turnbull’s brief honeymoon as the narrowest margin since the government was elected. Further questions on other leadership options and climate change produce results consistent with what we’re seeing elsewhere. Full tables here.

  1. vp:

[One definition of “belief”: confidence in the truth or existence of something not immediately susceptible to rigorous proof (from dictionary.com).]

This is why I never use the word believe in assoc with AGW unless to describe the denialist (as distinct from sceptic) stance, ‘Accept’ the evidence of AGW not believe in it seems more accurate to me.

  2. “My compliments on Clem 7; regarless of the financial shenanigans it seems to have been an excellent job of construction to complete the work so early without major incident.”

And in NSW, despite the ALP being terminal (me being a 34 year voter about to abandon them), they have done a pretty good job of rebuilding mega busy railway stations like North Sydney and Chatswood, particularly the latter with the lines being about twenty feet higher. I’m sure there was plenty of disruption but I didn’t see a single story – even in our media – about how it was stuffed up by Labor.

  3. 2553 Roy Orbison a real labor person never abandons as we know what a dreadful
society they give one and all.
I dont have to list them here, other people wars. worse than work choices.
send in the dogs awb put little children and harmless people behind barb wire.

]You know i could go on but it sickens me to remind my self.

  5. [Now in Italy they would love tone]
    BH

The Pope might not be too impressed with Tone breaking all the Commandments except murder, where he is still looking for a victim 😉

  6. vera #2536: I think women in particular will find Abbott’s obsession with sex creepy and off putting. I can’t think of one man I know who reveals such detail about his private life. I don’t need to know what Tone thinks about sex; what I do want to know is what policies he’s taking to the election.

  7. the trouble is when you are only 34 you have not lived through the liberal years like me.
iam 61 and my husband was sent to war because of a marble in a barrel
you should be so lucky, That was when i told my parents that there was NO way
i was going to vote for their conservative party again.
they could not come to grips with it. Of course then there was also NO equal pay for woman and in the public service when you got pregnant that was it.
    banished never to return.
So wake up and think what society they bring to all
O and the poor and disadvataged mean nothing. to conservatives.

let them eat cake and tony says there will alwasy be poor people

I’m shocked that Abbott has admitted coveting his neighbour’s ass, and puzzled that he has admitted to worshipping graven images.

    WHERE CAN WE READ THIS

  9. Socrates,

As I am not a big fan of the Jesuits (hitmen of the Catholic Church) I will not subscribe their psycology. It’s no small wonder that many have left the Catholic church.

One be honest with themselve to stand up beleive in what they proclaim to be. That is what I am trying to say.

Socs. Have you ever heard of an ex-jesuit called Alberto Rivera? He has spilled the beans on what Rome is really up to. From starting wars, political idiology, engineering financial crisis and relegious persecution and manipulations and assassinations. All roads lead to Rome!

Rivera became a born again Christian and escaped from Rome literally!

If your interested I can post you some links.

    Kersebleptes.

I suspect that you are right.

  10. [WHERE CAN WE READ THIS]

    http://www.the-ten-commandments.org/the-ten-commandments.html

Abbott has admitted to breaking them all except murder.

“You shall not make for yourself a graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them.”

You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor anything that is your neighbor’s.”

  11. my say,

We could always bootstrap it ourselves (thanks you, BB)!

It has been “reported” ➡ Psephos @ 2560.

Your comment @ 2566 shows there is now “an increasing chorus of questions” that Abbott “has to answer”.

Psephos’ reply @ 2568 gives “more damning revelations”.

My commentary (here) indicates that “Abbott’s position has become untenable”.

    All done…

  12. [vera #2536: I think women in particular will find Abbott’s obsession with sex creepy and off putting. I can’t think of one man I know who reveals such detail about his private life. The real point about this is that it’s undisciplined, self-indulgent and off-message. Every time Abbott talks about stuff like this he is missing a chance to talk about issues that actually influence how people vote.

  13. The Pope might not be too impressed with Tone breaking all the Commandments except murder, where he is still looking for a victim

Possible candidates, Kevin, Barnaby and female government front benchers.

  14. MySay.
“Roy Orbison a real labor person never abandons as we know what a dreadful
society they give one and all.”

Old Roy is not a real Labor person. He just votes for them a lot. But unfortunately, the old crooner lives in the seat of Heffron, occupied by you know who. However, Roy’s vote will be going into the bin at Daceyville Public (did you all know that Janette Howard went there but refuses to acknowledge it?) next time. I was going to give it to Uncle Barry but he is the train coming down the wrong tracks. But not Metro tracks.
My God, the Governements and the media reporting on them are deplorable.

  15. [Rumour is the insulation scheme is DOA]

I just got canvassed (cold called) by some mob which is chasing custom by calling home owners based on Google Streets and Google Earth.

It seems they are either trying to get new custom or undercut existing quotes by other providers.

They also asked if the house already had insulation and inferred that that would not preclude me from taking advantage of the Government scheme.

Pretty sure that mob are the sort that the AFP should be having a good look at!

  16. What is even funnier than the fact that Abbott thought it’d be a good idea to spill the details of his sex life/ murderous ambitions, are the comments accompanying the story on news.com.au. It’s hilarious watching as party hacks scramble to spin the story as a positive.

    http://www.news.com.au/national/tony-abbott-bemoans-lack-of-sex-on-campaign-trail/comments-e6frfkvr-1225832104043

    For instance…

[Tony you rock. You have my vote. You sound just like the one of us.]

[ha ha ha thats classic, at least the guy is honest. He might be on the conservative side but lately he seems to have dropped the very “PC” image that most other polies try and portray!]

[I say good on him for being honest!]

  17. i mentioned out and amout to today the words
    worse tht work choices.
And the young man said to me Yes i know i have heard that to.

So the slogan is working. Lets say it everywhere we can

  18. Abbott is behaving rather like the junior office boy who is accidentally promoted to CEO because of a mix-up about names at head office. He knows he’ll be found out soon and sent back to the mail-room, so he’s enjoying sitting in the big chair and smoking the boss’s cigars while he can. Suddenly there’s no-one to tell Abbott to shut up and stop making an idiot of himself. He can call a press conference to spout his half-baked Catholic morality (none of which applies to him, of course) and play at social commentator, and there’s no-one to stop him.

  19. At my parent’s Unit

One of the neighbours let the people in and they without strata approval laid the insulation on the roof of the premise, they are claiming the money from the government

It is not the best scheme, and there are many cheats out there

  20. I also think Abbott should be asked precisely when and what circumstances he has broken this commandment:
“You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.”

And his daughters might be asked how they feel about this, in the light of Dad’s revelations:
“For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me.”

  21. ltep @ 2580,

Another group of people with the ‘Keysar Trad problem’ (from when Trad was Hilaly’s spokesman) of having to spend their time repeating the mantra “…yes, but what he really meant to say was…”

  22. [next stop could be photoshopping horns and a pointy tail on.]
    ltep

Finns could do that, he had horns on his dolphin a while ago 🙂

  23. So in essence Mr Abbott doesn’t feel personally bound to follow the teachings of his religoin, but expects others to? For instance, abortion?

  24. This Rivera character seems like he was a total lunatic!

[According to Rivera, Jesuits are responsible for the creation of communism, Islam, and Nazism, and causing the World Wars, recession, the Jonestown Massacre, and the assassinations of Abraham Lincoln and John F. Kennedy (a Catholic); he further claims that the Catholic Church wants to spread homosexuality and abortion, that the Charismatic Movement is a front for the Catholic Church, that the Popes are antichrists, and that the Catholic Church is the Whore of Babylon.]

[Rivera also alleged that Muhammad was manipulated by the Catholic Church to create Islam and destroy the Jews and other groups of Christians, and that his first wife, Khadijah bint Khuwaylid, was actually a Catholic nun in an Arabian monastery who was told by a bishop to marry him and sow the seeds of what was to become Islam. Rivera also alleged that the Vatican staged an apparition at Fatima (named after Muhammed’s daughter) to cozy up to Muslims. He further claims that it also staged the 1981 assassination attempt on Pope John Paul II using a Muslim as the marksman “to guilt-induce the Muslim world, bringing them still closer to the Catholic faith!”]
