Newspoll: 53-47

The Australian reports the latest fortnightly Newspoll has Labor’s two-party lead at 53-47, up from 52-48 last time. Both parties have dropped a point on the primary vote, Labor to 39 per cent and the Coalition to 40 per cent, with the Greens steady on 12 per cent. Kevin Rudd’s personal ratings are now those of a political mortal: his approval is steady on 50 per cent, but his disapproval has crept up another two points to 40 per cent. Tony Abbott’s dicey ratings have improved, his approval up three to 44 per cent and disapproval down two to 37 per cent. Rudd’s lead as preferred prime minister is down from 58-26 to 55-27, equalling a poll conducted during Malcolm Turnbull’s brief honeymoon as the narrowest margin since the government was elected. Further questions on other leadership options and climate change produce results consistent with what we’re seeing elsewhere. Full tables here.

[ Its a pity those in labor most needing to be chucked out are in the upper house ]

His term does not expire until 2015 – so the upcoming election doesn’t affect him.

‘The Garrett thing went as I expected. Bit of chat about it last week, but by this stage the press are having to come up with new and exotic angles just to keep it in the news cycle. Nobody’s buying it any more.’

‘ but to public , he is lookin more and more like Latham , mark 11 ‘

OzPoll Tragic , “he” is Abbott
to public , a smokin volcano , ready to erupt but pretending to be calm a la Lathams

  3. Greece has more ‘undiscolosed’ exposure through Public Finance Initiative (PFI) deals done through Special Purpose Vehicles, in this case Titlos PLC. If the rating of the parties hit certain trigger points Titlos can force Greece to unwind the deal 5.4bn euro. That will be another lot of debt in the short term they will need to cover.

Seems also German public sector banks have Credit Default Swaps on Greek debt – amount unclear. But some of them aint talking. If Greece defaults then banks would be up for undisclosed amounts.

All a bit messy in Greece.

  4. float back to the subject of home – or lack of it in a politician’s life.

“Margie (his wife) said to me many years ago that since I had gone into politics, she had almost been a sole parent,” he says.

“The non-political spouse just ends up doing far more of the domestic scene than would otherwise be the case because the politician is inevitably married to the world as much as he is married to his or her spouse.

“And inevitably there’s a sense in which the electorate is your family as much as your own family.”

All three of the Abbott children are still at home.

“Although home is starting to become more of a base than a permanent residence,” he says.

He was last there with them last Thursday night – “briefly, lateish”.

“Then I got home lateish again on Saturday night and I’ll be home lateish on Friday night,” he says.

The thing that never alters much – even during Lent – is his fitness

TONY YOU ARE NOT MY FAMILY.
and i dont know one catholic any more and i know heaps of them that even remeber lent any more. So you are an over the top catholic.

  5. Scorpio @ 2599.

Even if half of that Wiki was correct then there are more things that go on behind the scene’s than you can understand.

Yes I know it sound far fettched and and it could be up their with the UFO’s.

As I have studied history well its not hard to see how this all tie’s in together. The part about the 20th century European history even makes more sense once it’s all laid out.

Again if you want the links just ask!

  6. confessions – I’m with you. Abbott seems to be obsessed with sex. I’m not sure why he needs to draw attention to it. It is so 1950s.

  7. [He further claims that it also staged the 1981 assassination attempt on Pope John Paul II using a Muslim as the marksman “to guilt-induce the Muslim world, bringing them still closer to the Catholic faith!”]

    Just as I suspected.

  8. I wish Abbott didn’t talk about sex so much. Next time I’m having sex I will be thinking about him, which is a big turn off.

  9. Sleezy Abbott would be more suited to porn movies than politics 😛 yuck to those budgies and all that chest fur.

“My name is Tony, and I have come to cleeen ze poool!”

  10. And inevitably there’s a sense in which the electorate is your family as much as your own family

TONE YOU ARE NOT PART OF MY FAMILY what rubbish

To be fair, we should compare apples with apples and profession with profession.

So the wuestion is how many died under the care of doctors and how many died under the the care of politicians.

The doctors would come out smelling like roses. Geez – the politicians gave the medicos a real leg up, what with World War 1, World War 2 and every other little war in the 20th century.

Finnigans…you need to improve your debating technique…at present it’s very poor. But I personally would call it pathetic.

  12. The other problem Abbott has is all this talk about sex and morality simply reinforces the view people already have of him. All that talk when he first became leader about a clean slate, and learning from past mistakes has been completely undermined by everything he’s said since. Can’t Nick ‘The Godfather’ Minchin have a word to him?

  13. Sky haven’t got Pete on
Just breaking News written on screen saying
Sky news has learned peter garrett to announce end of insulation program

  14. but vera when you think about

its quite well scary i have never heard men talk like that in front of woman any way and notice it was a female reporter ( launceston examiner).
I think men together may, but not in the company of other woman or thier wife.
Well no, his wife is not there but you can bet it will be on the news.
    poor woman

  15. Looks like Abbott has got the Labor Party startled and on the run.

This would have never have happened under Silver-Spoon Turnbull.

  16. Sky news’ Lib stooge female reporter talking up ‘garrett job on shaky ground’ and says Libs will have him under pressure with questions when parliament returns next week.

  17. Nice seeing the Libs under a bit of pressure and O’Barrell having to deny anything’s wrong 😉
[NSW Opposition Leader Barry O’Farrell has dismissed claims a bitter preselection contest will cause major upheaval in the Liberal Party.

David Clarke faces being dumped as a state upper house MP in Friday night’s preselection in Sydney’s northwest, with former staffer and now federal Liberal MP Alex Hawke backing Civil Contractors Federation chief David Elliott.

The move to oust Mr Clarke, considered the leader of the party’s religious right, is seen as an attempt by Mr Hawke to take control of the NSW party’s conservative wing.

But the prospect of such a Liberal heavyweight being discarded has led to predictions of “World War III” in the party.

Federal Liberal leader Tony Abbott even voiced his concerns, warning state colleagues that any bad blood could cost them the 2011 election.]

  18. I would have thought Abbott’s pronouncements were fairly accurate. It’s a bit hardto bonk when you’re away from home so much. Rudd got his fix at that famous New York nightclub though, so Therese need not worry.
