A little under five months after the federal election, the BludgerTrack poll aggregate has made its return, presently aggregating 14 poll results on voting intention and eight for leadership ratings. Going back as far as mid-June, it records a stable picture on two-party preferred, with Labor holding a consistent lead of around 57.5-42.5, but is distinctive on the primary vote in picking up a surge to One Nation, who are at level pegging with the Greens, at the expense of the Coalition. The series now makes use of the data from Roy Morgan, which was excluded in the previous term for reasons including its excessive frequency relative to other pollsters. This hasn’t been an issue post-election, having moved to roughly monthly reporting (a fresh result should be along later today), and it’s also relevant that it performed rather well at the election by leaning more strongly to Labor than its rivals.
BludgerTrack does not currently have enough data to work with to produce state breakdowns, but it gets one step closer today with The Australian publishing the first Newspoll geographic and demographic breakdown since the election, combining 3811 responses from three polls going back to mid-July. The full results on voting intention can be found under the “Poll Data” tab in the BludgerTrack display. At state level, it records two-party results of 60-40 to Labor in New South Wales (a swing to Labor of around 4.5% since the election), 58-42 in Victoria (around 1.5%), 51-49 in Queensland (ditto), 54-46 in Western Australia (a swing of around 2% to the Coalition) and 55-45 in South Australia (around 4% to the Coalition, bearing in mind that by this point the sample size is down to 283). There is no gender gap on two-party preferred, with Labor leading 57-43 among men and women, but Anthony Albanese has a narrower advantage over Sussan Ley on preferred prime minister among women (49-31) than men (54-31).
One further point to be noted is that New South Wales has a new Senator in Sean Bell, who fills the One Nation vacancy arising from the retirement of Warwick Stacey, who was elected in May, on grounds of ill health. A former adviser to Pauline Hanson, Bell was announced by the party as Stacey’s designated successor one day before a joint standing of state parliament convened to rubber-stamp its choice last week. Bell in fact lives in Queensland, but a party spokesperson told Max Maddison of the Sydney Morning Herald he was “in the process” of moving to the state he now represents.

It was a deliberate co-announcement with Australia, UK, and Canada (not sure where the French were). Announcing together makes it more difficult for the US to divide, criticise, and respond – hence why every step Australia has done on this matter has been in some group of 5 or more countries. Coordination is crucial, unilateral is useless.

On the other paw, if CIs run at about 11 -14+% that’s Greens/PHON type numbers and could have a big effect in some states esp if preferences skew ALP.
FWIW my working theory is that the Libs are being pulled to pieces with a right wing peeling off to PHON (which does show up bludgertrack) and a centre peeling off to the CIs (which isn’t).

I got hit by an “early” ebike in Shanghai about 12 years ago now. I had gotten out of my car and stepped onto the footpath and the bugger cleaned me up.
Fortunately I was physically a bit stronger in those days and whilst I had a few scratches and bruises the “Qi Di” (delivery driver) came off second best as I pushed him into a nearby lightpole. My driver who was ex Chinese Army jumped out of the car, making sure I was ok until the Coppers arrived.
Ebikes were notorious for riding on the footpath in those days and the chap was carted off by the Wallopers covered in, I think fried noodles. Had I been frail or aged it may well have meant death.
That being said, Chinese road (and footpath) etiquette has improved dramtically over the years. I was in Chongqing and Chengdu a few months ago and cars actually stopped at red lights and zebra crossings (that does not happen in Siam).
Previously it was “verboten” to cross at either unless you had eyes in the back of your head. My Chinese friends advised CCTV cameras, Policing and hit’s to ones Social Credit Score had made road (and footpath users) more cognisant of the rules and implications of not following them.
Unfortunately the same can’t be said for Siam. A tip for beginners when coming to the Land of Smiles – When using a Zebra Crossing, be like a Zebra, cross as part of a herd.

It looks like, from my quick scan of the paper, that the findings probably apply to those women who have used paracetamol for >20 days. So maybe that’s where the advice needs to come down on it…If you have used paracetamol for more than a couple of days, see your GP or obstetrician.
Although, if it were me I’d be worried about causing alarm over the use of paracetamol during pregnancy. There will be those who take the findings very seriously, as you should but with a degree of caution. As in, what would be the harmful effects of a prolonged high temperature in the mother on the foetus? Or any other malady which the paracetamol would be used for. Also, I’m not so sure about advising a switch to Ibuprofen. I, for one, can’t take it due to side effects. It caused my stomach wall to become rigid and hard as a rock, likely leading to a GIT or stomach bleed if continued. Not high dose either. I don’t know that it’s a good thing to advise mothers to take that instead.
So I think my earlier diagnosis per a response to the findings in that paper is probably the correct one. But Trump being Trump, he will likely turn it into a circus, and who knows how it will end then?

The latest episode of the Science Vs podcast covered this topic (https://open.spotify.com/episode/0afnM1qLQs8RbKocjpmApA or wherever you listen to your podcasts). Studies have shown a correlation between paracetamol usage in pregnancy and autism (a 5% increase). However, a more detailed look at the data showed it was correlation, but not causation. Older women are more likely to get aches and pains and so use paracetamol – being older when pregnant is a risk factor for having an autistic child. People with a fever are more likely to take paracetamol. Having a fever and infection presents risks to the unborn child, including autism.
I think it’s worth a listen.

4. Trump has completely destabilized the world trading and economic system especially during during uncertain times when 2 catastrophic wars are raging in Europe and Middle East with US blessing.
5. Americans are supposed to be the ‘good guys’ and Chinese are supposed to be ‘bad guys’. But who is behaving like ‘bad guys’ now?

People have woken up to the sick agenda of the West loathing left
It is not the left that hate the West. It is the Right…the Right, who hate everything achieved in the west since the Enlightenment. The Right despise democracy. They despise free speech. They detest science. They detest the secular, the free and the rational. They are exponents of hatred, greed and vengeance. They hate the very idea of equality. They have nothing but contempt for the very greatest achievements of the civilisation.

US ex-Secretary of State and ex- National security advisor of USA Henry Kissinger once said and I quote
“It may be dangerous to be America’s enemy, but to be America’s friend is fatal.”
BTW, we all know that Kissinger was never a soft touch
He was a war-hawke, who was architect of bringing Mao’s murderous Chinese Dictatorship into acceptance by Western democracies.
