A little under five months after the federal election, the BludgerTrack poll aggregate has made its return, presently aggregating 14 poll results on voting intention and eight for leadership ratings. Going back as far as mid-June, it records a stable picture on two-party preferred, with Labor holding a consistent lead of around 57.5-42.5, but is distinctive on the primary vote in picking up a surge to One Nation, who are at level pegging with the Greens, at the expense of the Coalition. The series now makes use of the data from Roy Morgan, which was excluded in the previous term for reasons including its excessive frequency relative to other pollsters. This hasn’t been an issue post-election, having moved to roughly monthly reporting (a fresh result should be along later today), and it’s also relevant that it performed rather well at the election by leaning more strongly to Labor than its rivals.
BludgerTrack does not currently have enough data to work with to produce state breakdowns, but it gets one step closer today with The Australian publishing the first Newspoll geographic and demographic breakdown since the election, combining 3811 responses from three polls going back to mid-July. The full results on voting intention can be found under the “Poll Data” tab in the BludgerTrack display. At state level, it records two-party results of 60-40 to Labor in New South Wales (a swing to Labor of around 4.5% since the election), 58-42 in Victoria (around 1.5%), 51-49 in Queensland (ditto), 54-46 in Western Australia (a swing of around 2% to the Coalition) and 55-45 in South Australia (around 4% to the Coalition, bearing in mind that by this point the sample size is down to 283). There is no gender gap on two-party preferred, with Labor leading 57-43 among men and women, but Anthony Albanese has a narrower advantage over Sussan Ley on preferred prime minister among women (49-31) than men (54-31).
One further point to be noted is that New South Wales has a new Senator in Sean Bell, who fills the One Nation vacancy arising from the retirement of Warwick Stacey, who was elected in May, on grounds of ill health. A former adviser to Pauline Hanson, Bell was announced by the party as Stacey’s designated successor one day before a joint standing of state parliament convened to rubber-stamp its choice last week. Bell in fact lives in Queensland, but a party spokesperson told Max Maddison of the Sydney Morning Herald he was “in the process” of moving to the state he now represents.
I somehow can’t see Albo meeting Trump after this. If he does Donald may will go on a rant and slap “nasty” Australia with more tariffs for dissing him, ‘merica and Netanyahu.

“More fundamentally, and in the global context, Islamophobia is often seen as a matter of individual prejudice, not a systemic injustice needing urgent policy action. The term itself is debated, and efforts to define and legislate against it are bogged down by arguments about “freedom of expression” – a concern rarely raised with antisemitism. Media coverage often frames anti-Muslim sentiment as a national security issue or as part of the fight against “Islamist extremism”, rather than recognising it as a genuine social problem.
This double standard is not unique to Australia. In the US, UK and France, antisemitism is condemned quickly and clearly, often with references to the Holocaust. Laws and policies are enacted swiftly, even at the expense of open debate around Israel. Islamophobia, meanwhile, is treated as a complex, ongoing social issue – serious, but always up for debate. Jewish communities receive concrete protections, while Muslim communities are left with promises and committees.
The media’s role in all this is huge. Outlets owned by powerful interests — such as Australia’s Murdoch media — amplify government talking points and repeat lobby-driven definitions, blurring distinctions between anti-Zionism and antisemitism and feeding fear of Muslim “others”. When advocacy groups or universities challenge these narratives, they are dismissed as fringe or accused of undermining social harmony. The result is a climate where criticism of Israel is delegitimised, while anti-Muslim sentiment is normalised or ignored.

Three lessons stand out. First, special envoys are only meaningful if the government is genuinely committed to fighting all forms of hate, not just offering symbolic gestures. Second, as Greens anti-racism spokesperson Mehreen Faruqi argues, Australia may not need envoys, but rather a structural commitment to tackling racism and xenophobia. Third, and most importantly, Muslims alone could reverse the trend of Islamophobia by establishing independent, fully-funded Muslim think-tanks, driven by a powerful lobby group with the purpose of establishing institutions with upstream influence. That is the key to curbing Islamophobia. Genuine power resides in the ability to shape world views, construct enduring narratives and define the rules of engagement, rather than simply responding to existing frameworks. This dynamic helps explain why many Muslim communities today remain ensnared in a persistent cycle of political reaction.”

I happened upon a short vox pop video from Tel Aviv on You Tube yesterday. What I learned from this video was that things are nowhere near as bad in Gaza as are made out by the imagery emanating from there. Apparently, more than 50% of what we see is fake, having been produced by “Gazawood”. This is a relief.

Look around. Examples of US failure are everywhere to be seen. In science and technology, in strategic power and diplomacy, in economic progress, in political and legal affairs, the US is in steep decline. Once the undisputed Hegemon it’s now the hollow has-been.
Trump is trashing the US. Good. They have done no good for many decades. The shrinkage is a very good thing.
Three of the leading industries in the US – education, healthcare and tourism – are being deliberately hammered by Trump. Agriculture is being crippled by assaults on both labour supply and on markets. The US advantage in arms production and sales is also being undermined.
Around 40% of the US domestic economy is taking a Trump-driven battering. Amazing. And on top of that the external sectors of the US economy are also being deliberately strangled. Really all quite extraordinary.

There is chatter on tik tok about a plot to swap US treasuries for synthetic/crypto currencies. This could be comparable to abandoning the gold fix, as Nixon did. The abolition of USD convertibility to gold precipitated the phase recalled as stagflation.
The result of such a change could be to nominally abolish all US official debt, but would have its corollary: no-one would ever again accept US currency in settlement of anything at all. This would profoundly upset the global apple cart. Trump is capable of such stupidity. Perhaps we should prepare for it. Unprecedented economic contraction would certainly ensue.
