Newspoll: 51-49 to Coalition

Further improvement in Scott Morrison’s personal ratings, but otherwise little change in the latest Newspoll.

Courtesy of The Australian, Newspoll has the Coalition leading 51-49 on two-party preferred, unchanged on three weeks ago, from primary votes of Coalition 43% (steady), Labor 36% (up one), Greens 11% (steady) and One Nation 2% (down one, and their weakest result since at least the 2019 election). Scott Morrison is up two on approval to 66% and down two on disapproval to 30%, while Anthony Albanese is up one to 44% and up two to 41%, with Morrison’s lead as preferred prime minister out from 58-29 to 60-28. The poll was conducted Wednesday to Saturday from a sample of 1511.

Biden’s health will increasingly be under very close scrutiny, so much so that even a sore throat or toothache will receive national coverage. Hopefully, he’ll get through his first term unscathed.

Spot on SK. And one of the genuine good guys of cricket.

I dont know why you need the (all too often misfiring) big hitting of Stoinis and Marsh when you have Finch, Warner, Smith and Maxwell. If Marsh wants more international cricket he should spend more time on his bowling – an under-rated part of his game which would be very useful on the long days in the field (esp with Starc nursed in short spells).

They didnt appreciate this part of Watsons role in the team either.

  3. HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — A Pennsylvania state senator abruptly left a West Wing meeting with President Donald Trump after being informed he had tested positive for the coronavirus, a person with direct knowledge of the meeting told The Associated Press on Sunday.

Republican state Sen. Doug Mastriano had gone to the White House last Wednesday with like-minded Republican state lawmakers shortly after a four-hour-plus public meeting that Mastriano helped host in Gettysburg — maskless — to discuss efforts to overturn president-elect Joe Biden’s victory in the state.

Trump told Mastriano that White House medical personnel would take care of him, his son and his son’s friend, who were also there for the Oval Office meeting and tested positive. The meeting continued after Mastriano and the others left, the person said.

Get a grip. Twisting one’s ankle is a minor injury, not a health or medical problem.

A good opposition would tear him to shreds.

  8. Q: Twisting one’s ankle is a minor injury….not necessarily.
You can easily avulse a chip of bone. A twisting injury can take much longer than a broken bone to heal. Often it requires wearing a boot. It is usually weakened for life.
Not fun at the best of times, at 78 definitely not good (but not life threatening).

To counteract his own harsh character revealed in his time as Imm Min, when he became leader, at first Morrison courted the “Christian vote”, but he soon realised that there was more to be gained by becoming Australia’s favourite tradie and Daggy Dad. We look forward to his next change to -da dah!- Mr Greenie.

  12. So the Herald Sun has a circulation of about a million per week, so about 150,000 per day. Victoria’s population is about 6,700,000, so let’s say about 5,000,000 adults.

So about 3% of Victorians shell out their hard-earned for the crap that the Herald Sun pushes. Total readership might be a few times bigger.

Numbers in NSW for the Telecrap look a little worse for Newscrap.

He’s not cutting through, even with the Howard-esque cash bribe to the outer urbs (childcare). He should be ramming that down voters throats … EVERY DAY.

Just looking at the latest Newspoll figures tells me he’s another Bill Shorten – voters don’t have much time for him. That’s a political death sentence for a LOTO.

I wonder if the inquiry here is more about the preparedness to respond to incidents like this as opposed to being in a position to predict them.

From having done this tour with my family in January 2017, I recall the safety check was pretty rudimentary .

I only recall a meeting spot behind what I recall was some sort of abandoned ship, maybe a loader of some description which was near the helipad.

  24. I always find it interesting when newspapers start patting themselves on the back over how great they are because more and more people are reading their bullshit.

I do not know what the latest figures actually relate so I am more than prepared to stand corrected but their is a huge difference between sales and circulation. Giving your paper away for free, dropping six copies in the lobby of buildings for browsing may be great to boost circulation figures but has nothing to do with sales and people actually reading what they offer.

  25. Those bludgers and other voices that ache for a more strident mode from the LOTO really should spend some time with the politically disengaged host that make up the electorate. They really do not like politics. Who could blame them for that! They particularly dislike carping, whinging, gotcha games, which they regard as childishly insulting and degrading.

This is the single most repeated description of politics by voters. Wisely, Labor has been listening to voters. Voters do not feel they need to be goaded, harassed, cajoled or otherwise violated by malicious hate mail. Albo seems to have taken this on board. Politics is not a game of hate-exchange.

This is idiotic. It is quasi Trumpist. Biden has just won an election with more votes than any previous candidate. He’s installing a reformist-leaning administration led by women and people of colour; people of experience and talent. One of them is Harris. There are many others.

The Faux, like Trump, have not accepted this reality. They are already bent on destroying the new Democratic President. They are a disgrace. They are intent on violating the result of the election.

Yeah. The worst PM in Australian history lost his very safe seat and is no longer in the Parliament. The reality is that old Joe will be 80 years old after the mid-terms.

Good sense is to play the long game and transition Harris in before 2024 to show she’s a capable and strong POTUS.

  32. Player One should spend some time in the suburbs, listening to voter opinions….listening to the people who actually decide elections; to people who have never heard of poll bludging.

Incidentally, this is not “doing nothing”. It is responding to voters…which is the core business of political parties.

I largely agree. To be honest, I’ve been disappointed with Albo’s lines of attack against the govt. Albo hasn’t really been cutting through with killer lines and clever gotchas. But does it really matter? I was impressed with Shorten as federal LOTO – and look what happened to him. So maybe it doesn’t really matter that Albo isn’t in constant ‘attack dog’ mode. He may be the kind of non-polarising leader that many Australians want, particularly disengaged voters. I’m not paying too much attention to bedwetters like mundo and Rex who offer nothing more than constant carping criticism.

  34. “I knew Angus would pretend his ‘plan’ had brought down emissions”

So the “plan” was to work with the Chinese to unleash the “Chinese Virus” on the world, clobbering much of the economy, then loudly blame China, causing them to retaliate against Australia and clobber much of our export industries.

    Great plan.

There will be plenty of time to groom Harris. For now, Biden has to show that Democratic personnel can deliver. If he can do that Harris will have a less obstacle-strewn path when her chance comes. In the meantime, the editors of Rexology can stick their appalling Trumpism somewhere relevant….maybe join the Republican Party.
