BludgerTrack: 55.6-44.4 to Coalition

This week’s Newspoll shocker has blown away the mild Labor recovery the BludgerTrack poll aggregate thought it was detecting after the budget.

A shift to Labor over the previous three weeks has been blown away and then some in the latest BludgerTrack poll aggregate, which has the Coalition up 1.5% on two-party preferred and gouges a further nine from Labor’s already feeble showing on the national seat projection (three seats from New South Wales plus one from each other state plus the combined territories result). The damage was done entirely by this week’s 58-42 Newspoll result, which is visible as the most recent outlier in the charts on the sidebar. The results from weekly pollsters Essential Research and Morgan were both consistent with a 55-45 trend that’s showed no real sign of budging since February. Another feature of the result is that the Greens have fallen to their lowest ebb this term.

[However they can only vote for their local candidate. The leader is up to caucus and that is the facts.]

Really guytaur I never knew that – thanks for informing me!!!

  2. 2bob

Glad you realise. Now you can get off the disunity bandwagon and join caucus including Mr Rudd on the unity ticket for winning an election

  3. castle

We saw a similar situation when Rudd was PM, rushing all around Australia and overseas to sell his pet projects, while Julia sorted out the administration and kept things together.

  4. Mod Lib, I realize you’ve gotten into the habit of believing Rudd is coming back any day now over the last three years, but really, it’s getting to be a terribly boring substitute for rational political discussion.

He’s gone, finished, retired, washed out, thrice beaten soundly, a has-been, hated by the party, history, kaput, gone.

    [ I don’t know.]

The devastating essence of your conspiracy theory, as with all conspiracy theories, which are all about the individual theorist and nothing else.

  6. Personally, I don’t care whether it’s Bob Carr, Kevin Rudd, Julia Gillard or Bobo the Clown – if internal polling shows that any one of them can save the day, or even limit the damage, then go for it.

  7. Guytaur – from a few pages back (I’ve been distracted in meantime) – no worries on calling me Centaur.

    I’ve certainly been called worse.

@sallie6youtube I don’t think there is a challenge in the offing and I’ve been making that clear]

  9. [he was an appallingly bad person to work for either as Staff, Cabinet Minister or Backbencher. That was shown by the eviscerating pubklic attacks in the media. ]

    Don’t forget the flight attendants…

  10. castle@1800 – top post, notice how “convicted jihadist terrorist” has dropped off the media radar.

  11. Mod Lib@1796

Do you think who the voter choses for their electorate is affected by who the caucus votes in as leader?

I think they mainly vote for more money in their pockets and/ or more services. They also vote for stability. Hence Labor’s poor showing despite good policies. A change of leaderis not going to change the perception of being a rabble, quite the opposite.

  12. I have to say I’m surprisingly impressed with the Guardian Oz since it went live.

A few early stumbles, which is perhaps to be expected. But since then the quality of their offerings has mostly been excellent.

I hope they can keep it up and show up their OM Oz msm counterparts.

  13. [He’s gone, finished, retired, washed out, thrice beaten soundly, a has-been, hated by the party, history, kaput, gone.]

he will PM at the end of the month

How bloody patronising of you? I think I know what I think and stand by it.

I certainly do not need instruction from you but thanks for offering it anyhow.

  15. [He’s gone, finished, retired, washed out, thrice beaten soundly, a has-been, hated by the party, history, kaput, gone.]

So is Gillard by the looks of it…

  16. [CHRISTOPHER PYNE, MANAGER OF OPP. BUSINESS: I understand from sources within the Labor Party that Julia Gillard demanded that she’d also be able to appear. She has taped an interview for the 7.30 Report and my sources in the Labor Party tell me that she is demanding tonight on the 7.30 Report that Kevin Rudd rule out a challenge to her leadership.

LEIGH SALES: For the record, I can confirm that the Prime Minister did none of those things. ]

But that was it, an outright lie from the Shadow Minister for Education and next day….

    Nothing.

  17. LOL.

Rudd was out and about today treated like a rock star at the local shopping centre.

Meanwhile Gillard is ducking and diving vegemite sandwiches thrown at her by 10 year olds. No wonder she was too shit scared to leave her hotel room at the Rooty Hill RSL for anything other than staged media events…

  18. confessions

The long one with the points. I do agree about the split in the party though being about a direction for the party or not.

I know many people have this view, but the Australian electorate is much more sophisticated than that.

They supported the increase in Medicare levy to support the NDIS
They supported the abolishing of the baby bonus
They voted back in a government proposing a great big new tax, as the case was well argued

Underestimating the electorate is a fatal political mistake*

*note Gillard’s patronising TV address a couple of years ago!

  20. [The long one with the points.]

Which, if you’d bothered to follow the link would’ve been abundantly clear is a comment by someone else, not me.

  21. The effort being put in by the liberals to bring down Gillard says a lot in my view.

If the game was really over they would not care.

  22. 2bob

Its simple if you are a loyal Labor supporter. You back caucus and the leader chosen by them.

Especially when the person you want as leader has told you to pull your head in.

Start listening to the guy you want as leader at least.

  23. [The effort being put in by the liberals to bring down Gillard says a lot in my view.]

It’s not just the Liberals, but the media the R*dd Rump within the ALP.

  24. i mean rudd has demonstrated in 24hours how to sell a message and how to campaign. rather than the misery dolled out by gillard and swan. it is the economy stupid and swan cant even win that argument.

  25. The trouble with Rudd is that to be any use to Labor he has to come out and admit Labor got it right and Gillard has done a lot better than he ever could. A hard ask for a big ego.

  26. [Today, Sullivan Nicholaides Pathology outed itself as the laboratory that failed to notify health authorities when it detected Legionella bacteria last week.

It is mandatory to report Legionnaires’ disease to Queensland Health, and authorities are usually notified within 24 hours of a positive test result.

Sullivan Nicolaides confirmed the first case on May 27, but Queensland Health was not advised until June 5.

It says it does not yet know how it came to breach its legal obligations.]

Well I do know, but am unable to say publicly. The fallout could be super Sonic.

  27. [If the game was really over they would not care.]

    I don’t care… I’m loving the implosion.

Need to make some more popcorn…

  28. ruawake @1819

I think I’ve spotted the problem, Porkypyne’s accent has caused a mistranscription he actually said “I understand from souses within the Labor Party ” and “my souses in the Labor Party tell me”

  29. Malcolm Fraser has just said that the best way to keep Abbott from getting a Senate majority as well as HoR …IS TO VOTE GREEN

    Good old Mal

In the last 24 hours, once again Rudd has managed to make it all about Rudd, handy for the Liberals but not for Labor.

  31. [So why do Coalition Party want Rudd as Leader?]

Because changing leaders (YET AGAIN!) looks flaky, uncertain, desperate and NSW-ish.

  32. Gillard is “Winning” just like Charlie Sheen.

God some people on this site are demented and so out of touch of reality it’s almost laughable.

  33. guytaur

Honestly please don’t lecture me about what I should and shouldn’t do.

You may not agree with me and that is the name of the game we don’t all think alike that is why Parties vote on issues and the such.

Be assured that I know what I am doing and we are just not all the same that is life. I really do not need to have you telling me what I should do. Go and join the ALP yourself if you are so concerned.

    GIVE IT A REST!

  34. Boerwar.

My condolences on the loss of your dear Dad.

Tell him we are pleased to have encountered his fine son.

Take care and enjoy the memories.

  35. Journos have been writing their rudd returns attack for 3 years. they could set their email send to auto delay go off on a holiday and start planning their heavily tax payer subsidised baby

  36. [In the last 24 hours, once again Rudd has managed to make it all about Rudd, handy for the Liberals but not for Labor.]

    Spot on.

And robs the PM and the govt of clear air to talk about what they’re doing. He’s been doing this for 3+ years now, I’m sure this behaviour comes naturally to him now.

  39. All Rudd did was go to the shopping centre to talk to his constituents.

He can’t help it he’s more popular than Gillard.

Now he’s being accused of “robbing the PM of clean air” because everyone likes him and everyone hates Gillard.

  40. I think they mainly vote for more money in their pockets and/ or more services. They also vote for stability. Hence Labor’s poor showing despite good policies. A change of leaderis not going to change the perception of being a rabble, quite the opposite.

Excuse me for replying but you have spent the last year saying its all about a personality contest in which the PMs broad vowels play a large part.

Btw: as a matter of interest you know my former specialty and Dio’s but what is yours?
I find the party politics of medicine interesting. Many of the Chinese and Indians have little interest and most of the skips are obviously still OB network but beginning with Whitlam it was much easier for the working class to have a medical education and some still remember or feel indebted for that. Of course the beginning of post grad med degrees reduced this ability and also had impacts on women and non skips. Some malicious tongues say this was why competitive merit basedselection was abandoned.
