Galaxy: 64-36 to federal Coalition in Queensland

GhostWhoVotes relates that tomorrow’s Courier-Mail will carry a poll of 800 Queensland respondents (producing a margin of error of 3.5%) which puts the Coalition’s lead in the state at 64-36. This is less bad for Labor than the spectacular 68-32 in the Queensland component of last week’s Nielsen result, but quite a bit worse than the 58-42 in the January-March geographic breakdown from Newspoll (which was mostly conducted before Labor’s post-leadership challenge downturn). Galaxy has Labor at 23% of the primary vote, the Coalition at 56% and the Greens at 11%, compared with 18%, 56% and 11% in Nielsen. The poll has support for the carbon tax at 25% and opposition at 72%, respectively down four and up five since November.

  1. [Just voted on this and I voted yes he was convincing, but the vote shows one person voted abd see for yourselves.]

The only reasonable response to that poll is “I don’t know”. If you vote yes or no you are claiming to know with certainty whether Thompson is telling the truth, and you set yourself up as judge and jury.

  2. Was Channel 7 named as the crew that tried to film his wife showering? If so the ABC and Fairfax have chosen to not name them and simply refer to them as ‘media’. If it was 7 shouldn’t they be identified by name even in their own broadcasts and shouldn’t they be approached for a statement to confirm or deny the allegation?

  3. Don’t forget, bludgers, that many (most?) of the less intelligent percentage of the popn vote for conservatives.

  4. am with those that say more outsourcing less safe.

Yes guytuar i wont fly with them

I hope they dont strike today though

  5. [If he truly loved his wife he would co-operate with the police and be only too happy to get to the bottom of the alleged ‘conspiracy.’]

    Which dick head said that?

At this stage most of the entire population will vote for the conservatives.

  7. Regarding the “nobbled poll” – perhaps it’s just another aspect of the incredible conspiracy against Thomson! Surely that might be a bit hard to swallow?

Then again, if you’re voting “convincing” in that poll you’ll likely believe anything as long as you want it to be true.

Thomson said that Channel Seven was hovering under his bathroom window as his pregnant wife was taking a shower. He damn near broke down at that point. He specifically named Channel 7.

They’re closing the Tullamarine maintenance facilities. Nice one, Qantas. Classy move during Thomson’s speech

  10. ruawake,

If he was worried about the media invading his privacy shouldn’t he co-operate with the police??? Doesn’t he want to get to the bottom of it???

  11. I agree with desert fox – members of parliament should lose the privledge against self incrimination.

There should also be changes to the criminal code to ensure that members always get sentenced to a minimum of 18 months in jail.

For members of parliament too in relation to their cooperation with police the onus of proof in relation to any charge of attempting to pervert the course of just should be switched to the MP (I’m not heartless it should be on a BoP basis)

There should also be some federal crime of being convicted of a state crime (regardless of a spent conviction order) with an 18 month minimum jail sentence.

The libs and the indies want to clean things up let them introduce the laws. Till then they and desert fix should shut up.

  12. It’s a well known tactic of Liberals to have members sitting at computers and clicking continuously on web polls in order to give weight to their crowing that public opinion is against the government.

The media here is wrong. Just like the phone hacking. No doubt it will add to regulate media calls.

    Go away idiot. 😛

  17. Its an indictment of the sad state of journalism in Australia at the moment when you actually have to listen to Parliament to understand what was said because of the partisan biased reporting by the media.

I thought Craig Thomson sounded very reasonable.

I thought the ABC was very biased using the HSU union rep from Hobart to comment on Thomson, naturally he said, “Go to jail”.

On tonight’s news is any one going to comment about the actions of Kathy Jackson or the ongoing failure of AEC or NSW Police or Victorian Police to bring charges

  18. Fox if your arse was on fire shouldn’t you pour petrol on it. Logical fallacies r us. Is the new name for the Rabble.

Today is a bad day for the Opposition. Some media as well.]

Why? Because Craig Thomson said so?

  20. @Lizzie

What an absolute load of rubbish that “most unintelligent people vote for the Coalition”. Your post is offensive and is the sort of rubbish we don’t need on these forums.

Guess what, when I was a youngster I thought exactly the same about ALP voters, until I grew up and was able to see that there are different world views made up of people who generally want the best for people and Australians but look at the same data and factors and interpret outcome paths differently.

For every “redneck” farmer bumpkin that votes for the Coalition there’s a blue collar bogan in suburbia who votes for Labor because of the vague notion that they “look after the working man”. For every academic who votes for Labor there’s a successful businessman who votes for the Coalition. Neither political party has a mortgage on the “dummies” and the uninformed.

  21. Hey desert fox perhaps my new tough laws for members should be extended to staffers and party officials. Perhaps the media as well.

    Any answers?

  22. I cut the media right out of it, I watched Mr Thomson’s statement. I switched to APAC when the TV coverage cut out. I deliberately do not want my impressions and opinions influenced by moronic media presenters who think they are judging an episode of Dancing with the Masterchef.
