US election minus 36 days

Either due to the market meltdown, the debate or both, much has changed in Gallup tracking poll land since our last thrilling instalment.

We also have this entertaining survey on Australian attitudes to the presidential race from UMR Research, showing 66 per cent of respondents preferring Barack Obama against 13 per cent for John McCain. Sarah Palin and (especially) George W. Bush also appear to be none too popular in our part of the world.

  1. ShowsOn, JulieM, Dario et al,

These hundreds of posts of bile re McCain. You must really be trying to convince yourself that he is unworthy.

All sounds a bit hollow and insecure to me.

  2. He became unworthy when he sold his soul to the right and decided to do anything to win by naming Palin as his VP. After that he deserves any rebuke given.

In 6 months when his memoirs come out he’ll cite that decision as his biggest regret in his life.

  3. [All sounds a bit hollow and insecure to me.]
    Wonderful.
[He became unworthy when he sold his soul to the right and decided to do anything to win by naming Palin as his VP. After that he deserves any rebuke given.]
    Exactly.
[In 6 months when his memoirs come out he’ll cite that decision as his biggest regret in his life.]
Apparently at the moment his biggest regret is associating himself with Keating.

What he is doing is essentially running the campaign George Bush ran against him in the 2000 primary.

Evidently Palin is going to be installed as a fascist dictator after Bush rescinds Posse Comitatus (the law preventing the army from acting on US soil). And if you think it’s just a coincidence that our supposed “Possum Comitatus” chose a similar name, think again. Possum has just been softening us up before he takes over the world. Who is going to be the brains behind the Sarah “Evita” Palin operation? Who has been manipulating all the electoral sites across the globe with his Intrade data? 👿

  5. Re 1251,

About as hollow as Kevin07 responding to the Lindsay leaflet debacle last year ……. We will keep this thread on topic in spite of the trolls …..

Now, where were we? Oh, yes, posts re McCain and the upcoming election …..

    [
Obama told reporters in Asheville, N.C., that he was surprised his Republican rival’s campaign would signal an effort to avoid talking about the financial turmoil because McCain advisers fear it could cause him to lose the election.

“I’ve got news for the McCain campaign: The American people are losing right now,” he said. “They’re losing their jobs. They’re losing their health care. They’re losing their homes. They’re losing their savings. I cannot imagine anything more important to talk about.”

In case you hadn’t noticed, this isn’t anything other than pure straight up facts. Checked your investment fund balance lately? If the word you used – b*** – is taken in its proper context in this instance, it would be used to describe how you feel when you looked at that balance.

Oh, here is the URL for the rest of the article. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/10/06/obama-mccain-should-focus_n_132320.html

As did JH learn his lesson, so will JM; if you made the mess you have to bloody take responsibility for it and if you refuse to do that, the electorate will punish you at the polls, its a D-E-M-O-C-R-A-C-Y.

    Just glad you don’t get a vote this time, GG 😉 …… Cheers 🙂 🙂 🙂

  6. Diogenes and ShowsOn,

Thanks, Dio, for the link to that article, will read it shortly. I’ve replied to GG but some word or words I put into my reply are caught up in William’s spam filter at the moment LOL ……. Wish that this whole process with the election would be over now sooner rather than later 😉 …… it is almost enough to probably make the Canadians wonder where the h*** all of the press brigade are at the moment … they’ve got an election middle of this month and no one cares one whit about it 😉

    Cheers 🙂

  7. Now you’ve resorted to packing together and whistling in the dark.

Repeating your lies of insecurity a hundred or a thousand times doesn’t make them true.

You guys posts are like the Brothers Grimm fairy tales which were designed to stop children wandering into the forest and coming to harm.

McCain is not a witch, he is only a politician.

  8. Press are refused permission for remainder of campaign to talk to any Palin supporters at official rallies. Repub. want to avoid negative articles being reported …..

like that is going to stop the flow 😉 …. {btw, Clearwater is in the state of Florida around Tampa)

Press kept under a watchful eye
CLEARWATER — Constantly under the watchful eyes of security, the media wasn’t permitted to wander around inside Coachman Park to talk to Sarah Palin supporters. When reporters tried to leave the designated press area and head toward the bleachers where the crowd was seated, an escort would dart out of nowhere and confront him or her and say, “Can I help you?” and turn the person around.
When one reporter asked an escort, who would not give her name, why the press wasn’t allowed to mingle, she said that in the past, negative things had been written. The campaign wanted to avoid that possibility Monday.

  9. [Repeating your lies of insecurity a hundred or a thousand times doesn’t make them true.]
That’s an unfair thing to say about Ron.
[McCain is not a witch, he is only a politician.]
Only you called him a witch.

  10. ShowsOn,

    Laugh, I nearly started.

You seem to be quite uncomfortable.

Surprise me and blog something new and interesting that extends the discussion.

    Laugh, I nearly started.

  11. GG,

We are extending the discussion, just not about material you care to read …….. Btw, as a precursor to this story; the state of the stock market at present in the USA is so bad that CNN has a LIVE box on its screen no matter what the program that shows the live numbers of the Dow Jones …..

  12. GG,

Lets have you constructively put your words where they belong …. Since you are obviously barracking for McCain; would you consider contributing a guess to our informal contest? We need your guess on electoral votes for McCain’s victory and the answers to our tiebreaker questions – state that will put McCain over the top based up on the CNN count on Election night and will Obama take Missouri?

If you honestly believe in McCain, contribute please :). We will take any McCain guesses on board, we don’t discriminate. If you can’t see a path for McCain to win the election, I believe you should lurk for the rest of the campaign and not troll this board any more.

    Cheers 🙂

  13. [You seem to be quite uncomfortable.]
No. I got a new chair last week which is VERY comfortable.
[Surprise me and blog something new and interesting that extends the discussion.]
    OK, but you first.

  14. JulieM,

Regardless of your passion for your cause, hundreds of anti McCain posts about the same thing. That is not an extension of the debate.

Luckily, I haven’t lived in the US for 43 years and have a well developed BS detector.

Look in the mirror before you accuse others of trolling.

  15. Juliem.

I think GG provides a fair counterpoint to what is essentially a pro-obama board. I often find myself getting rankled by what he contributes, but usually before i’ve actually thought about it. Usually, he’s just trying to point out that there are two sides to every coin etc…

In regards to McCain winning, it ain’t likely. If he does win, it would require a massive turn-about. To produce such a turnabout Obama would have to mess up massively. I don’t think McCain can really engender this mistake.

  16. GG, this sounds familiar:

[Now you’ve resorted to packing together and whistling in the dark.

Repeating your lies of insecurity a hundred or a thousand times doesn’t make them true.

You guys posts are like the Brothers Grimm fairy tales which were designed to stop children wandering into the forest and coming to harm.

HILLARY is not a witch, she is only a politician.]

The MO has not changed at all, only the name has changed.

  17. [Regardless of your passion for your cause, hundreds of anti McCain posts about the same thing. That is not an extension of the debate.]
What exactly is it you want to debate? You seem to be uncomfortable.
[Usually, he’s just trying to point out that there are two sides to every coin etc…]
    Who said there wasn’t?

I’m yet to read on this blog a coherent case for why John McCain would make a better president in the current environment than Obama. I’ve read people say that McCain is like Winston Churchill (without providing any evidence how this is the case), but most of what amounts to McCain support here is actually just incoherent attacks on Obama. For example, people saying he is a left wing extremist, or a liberal elitist.

  18. ShowsOn,

True, but it is proof that my contributions extend the debate. Your monotone of dreary anti McCain snides is hardly enlightening.

Neither is your Edward Scissorhand style.
