RedBridge Group: Labor 29, One Nation 31, Coalition 22 (open thread)

One Nation records its best poll result in six weeks, as Labor slumps on various two-party preferred measures.

The Financial Review has its monthly poll from RedBridge Group/Accent Research, which is somewhat at odds with recent trends in recording a two-point rise for One Nation to 31%, equalling their best-ever result the month before last, and the Greens slumping four points to 10%. Less unusual is a four-point rise for the Coalition to 22%, but it’s typically been accompanied by softer results for One Nation. Labor meanwhile is down a point to 29%.

Labor’s respondent-allocated two-party lead over One Nation narrows from 56-44 to 53-47, and it records what may be its worst result of the term in trailing the Coalition 52-48, after leading 54-46 last month. Using preference flows from the previous election (which involves extrapolating the 6.4% who voted One Nation to the 31% recorded in the current poll), a Labor lead of 55-45 last month becomes a 50-50 tie.

For leadership ratings, only net favourability is provided – I will hopefully be able to break this out into favourable and unfavourable later today. Anthony Albanese is down a point to minus 19; Angus Taylor is up three to minus six and Pauline Hanson is steady on minus 10. The three-way preferred prime minister result has Anthony Albanese down a point to 32%, Pauline Hanson up one to 24% and Angus Taylor up four to 15%. The poll was conducted last Monday to Thursday from a sample of 1001.

UPDATE: Leadership ratings have Anthony Albanese down a point on favourable to 30%, up three on neutral to 19% and steady on 49% unfavourable; Angus Taylor is up three to 20%, up three to 31% and steady on 26%; and Pauline Hanson down one to 36%, up four to 15% and down one to 46%. Also featured in the poll are one off personal ratings for Gina Rinehart (27% favourable, 27% neutral, 36% unfavourable) and John Howard (43%, 28% and 21%).

    [According to The National Automotive Leasing and Salary Packaging Association (via ABC Business Live), there is a high correlation b/n solar on rooves and novated lease EVs:}

I have said before that I think the work done on EV regulations last year by Labor led to a great policy outcome. Now, as your data shows, we can see that not only did we get a large increase in EV purchase, but the subsidies went heavily to the people who needed cost of living help most, not just those who could previously afford an expensive vehicle.

Also, the sales increase in EVs has probably eased the pain of declining ICE sales within the auto industry. People are still buying cars, just different types of cars.

Opposition leader Jess Wilson says Premier Ben Carroll must sack a senior public servant exposed as being involved in secret negotiations between the Andrews government and the United Firefighters Union by 5pm.
    _______________________
Lets see how long Ben Carroll’s mantra of ‘Integrity is not optional’ lasts.
It looks to be in trouble already if he doesn’t sack Tony Bates.
Put your money where your mouth is Premier. We want no excuses. We are are way past that stage.
    ==========================================

Why is that a sacking offence exactly?

Why can’t you have secret negotiations with a union?

Why does Jess Wilson believe she has right to call for a public service person to be sacked?

Aren’t all Government negotiations generally secret until the outcome is announced?

Jess Wilson and TM are ‘going Tropo’ as Keating once said.

Less than 20,000 between El-Sayed and Hayley Stevens with 94% in
    ===============================================

Going from your earlier post the trend is not Hayley’s friend.

At 83% vote she was 23000 behind
At 94% vote she was just below 20000 behind

So she gained just above 3000 votes in the last 11% of votes counted with 6% of the vote left.

  4. Jean-Claude’s memory has worsened after a toilet break, with questioning about how much money he made from his various Reformer activities. He claims he was short-changed. Tina McQueen was mentioned by Counsel Assisting as assisting the Reformers, but she, of course, can’t be examined.

Ven, if you have Prime TV get the subscription addition The Great Courses Signature Collection. Long form 20-30 episodes with a no nonsense, very detailed approach on any topic you can imagine.

I’m deep into exploring the agriculture and urban revolutions of 10,000bc-2,000bc at the moment. about 3 books and 4 series in. Cant get enough of it.

I read quite a bit about ancient history in recent times. What I noticed is that a lot of archeological ancient civilization findings are centred around modern Turkey. Some ancient civilization existed before ancient pharaoh Egyptian kingdom in modern Turkey area around 7000-10000 years ago. There is no written or oral history about them.

    Sorry Entropy, Typo
It should be 84% instead of 94%

Now, 89% vote is counted and El-Sayed is leading by about 26,000 votes

The amusing thing is when the Victorian LNP previously was in Government it carried out negotiations in secret with big business. They never disclosed the whole deal done even after it was completed. Hence we only found out much later about any dodgy side-letter deals put into it.

  8. Either way, the Michigan dem primary is now looking to be the single worst outcome; a super tight campaign that will now need massive reconciliation to stand a chance against Rogers.

Also an absolutely crazy amount of cash thrown around; cash does not belong in healthy democracies

Always some poor dead woman for the LNP to pin the blame on.

    Teena McQueen for the Reformers.

    Malisa Golightly for Robodebt.

  10. $60m spent by Haley Stevens, of which $30m was by a pro Israel SuperPAC.

Abdul El-Sayed spent less than $5m

If Haley Stevens couldnt win the Primary with that spending disparity then she probably wasnt going to win the General.

  11. @Miskal

Yeah, it is disappointing that it was that close. AIPAC will probably pour tens of millions into Mike Rogers to defeat Abdul El-Sayed now.

It’s shameful that they spent $60 million into Haley Stevens, also Schumer and ghouls like him were backing Stevens as well.

Also NBC has called it for El-Sayed now, vote’s about 49-47.

Thanks for the correction. Actually saw Kirsdarke’s post before I scrolled back and saw yours. I was really confused for a short time before seeing your correction.

  13. “$60m spent by Haley Stevens, of which $30m was by a pro Israel SuperPAC.

Abdul El-Sayed spent less than $5m”

Regardless of our political difference, I think we can all agree that being in such a position should have been a vote killer.

And yes while it was closer then some polls indicated its certain a win to beat that sort of warchest.

  14. I wonder if this failure to unite under a candidate will haunt Democrats going forward when it comes to the general election campaign.

  15. I hear that Haley Stevens would endorse Abdul El-Sayed if he wins the primary.

Hearing from her in the leadup to this vote though, I bet she’ll pull a Jasmine Crockett and throw a tantrum and refuse to do so.

I hope to be proven wrong here though, Stevens’ $60 million would be helpful for El-Sayed to defeat Rogers in November.

  16. I would feel more comfortable if the Democrats were concentrating effort and funds on fighting Trump/Republicans rather than internal fights.

I trust her involvement with the Reformers didn’t hasten her demise.

  18. It was an ugly primary with a lot of smears, and will surely be an ugly general. We’ll see if ‘vote blue no matter who’ holds.
But if $30M couldn’t win you a primary then it sure as hell wouldn’t have won you a general especially when aipac will be funding Rogers

Abdul El-Sayed will need to concentrate on everyday things to win. He won’t need to bring up his stance on Israel as the media will be doing that constantly anyway. So every time they do he should answer honestly but pivot it to his social policy.

    Example of such a pivot:
USA taxpayer aids the Israel military to the tune of around $4 billion annually . Think how much better our taxpayer money could be spent on the following for the people of Michigan (or USA), then list and talk about these things.

  20. Bonza the Democrats have an unfortunate history of low voter turnout when internal conflict is involved. How much of that 47% will just fail to vote?

I heard from Ali Velshi on MSNow that El-Sayed built up huge lead in the order of 80-20 in the area where muslims are concentrated like Dearborn and Dearborn heights.
Also, if Hayley Stevens had won, it would have been because of Black voters.

  22. I recall a recent poll saying that only 57% of Haley Stevens voters would vote for Abdul El-Sayed in the General election if he won. 12% would vote for Mike Rogers, 31% would not vote.

Each candidate got around 700000 votes.
The dropped out candidate got about 4% not and El-Sayed won by less than 2% vote.

Typo. And I changed it. 🙂

  29. If right wing democrats were so popular that DSA candidates should move out of the way for them, why are the right wing democrats so unpopular that they lost the entire US Government apparatus and dozens of American state legislatures & governorships?

“Im assuming this is after Sanders has been placed upon the Golden Throne?”
Sanders will be turned into a Power Rangers Zordon style tube leader.

  30. The US, more so than Australia, is basically a right wing country. Real progressives tend to suffer from swimming against the current.

    That made me laugh.

Zordon!Sanders: “Assemble a team of progressive teenagers with attitude!”
Alpha: “Aye-aye-aye! Sir, teenagers can’t be elected to congress! The minimum age is 25 for Reps, 30 for Senators!”
Zordon!Sanders: “Oh. Well, assemble a team of Millennials and Zoomers (who are old enough) with attitude!”

I would not underestimate Abu El Sayed in the Michigan election. Listen to him speak. He is impressive. And despite the name, he speaks with a very recognisably American accent.

I agree with his point of view.

Our family tree is once again meeting a Jewish women. The family has been mixed up in global history for 200 years, interesting people, people that have done things, educated people. They are not the rednecks running around in Palestine terrorizing the Palestinians.

Those trying to define the Jewish people by the action the rednecks are to be despised.

Agreed. I have known Jewish friends since Uni days. They are appalled by Netanyahu.

You will appreciate the parody video.

  34. A precis of today’s ICAC hearing:

‘Jean-Claude Perrottet said he would, on occasion, pay for memberships during his time with the Reformers.

A document shown to the commission showed Reformers figures listing potential staffers to plant in ministerial and electoral offices after the 2019 election, ranked on their ability to recruit new members.

Perrottet was employed at Catholic Schools NSW until two months before public hearings began. He was told his position was being made redundant by then-chief executive Dallas McInerney.

Messages shown to the commission claimed MP and factional enemy to the Reformers Alex Hawke suspected Perrottet was working on factional matters while a ministerial staffer, and sent a Liberal ally to try and “catch him”.

Perrottet sent Christian Ellis a text message saying MPs were “getting scared about ICAC” while working in Damien Tudehope’s office.

When asked about the perception from Jeremy Greenwood that Perrottet was obsessed with faction work and needed either “a Valium or a break”, Perrottet said he preferred the term “passionate”.’

    – SMH

Jean-Claude and Greenwood will appear tomorrow.
