Nine Newspapers brings the latest monthly poll from Resolve Strategic, showing no change to Labor’s two-party lead of 55-45. Primary votes are Labor 34% (down one), Coalition 28% (up one), Greens 11% (steady) and One Nation 12% (steady). By far the biggest movements are negative ones for Sussan Ley, who is down eight on approval (very good plus good on performance in recent weeks) to 33% and up six on disapproval to 38%. Anthony Albanese also goes backwards, by three points to 41% on approval and two to 47%, but his lead on preferred prime minister has widened from 38-26 to 40-23. The poll was conducted Tuesday to Sunday from a sample of 1800, and should be followed over the coming days by a state result from Victoria.

In 2020, Rudd launched a petition calling for a Royal Commission into News Corp’s dominant position in Oz media. It recorded the biggest ever support for a petition to the Federal Parliament. While Clennell’s question to Trump was reasonable in the circumstances, a contrarian might take the view that it was a set-up, with the intent of raining on Albanese’s parade, and in the worst case, a retributive direction from above.

Watching SBS and ABC news tonight you would think that Trump had been waiting for this meeting to put the boot into Rudd. I can’t remember if any of them noted the fact that Trump only became aware of Rudd and his comments because a Murdoch arselicker asked a question about it. I doubt it.
They needed some conflict to report and were delighted to report a load of shit in the absence of anything more “interesting” to report. And the outcome? Trump, by ALL reports, was quite pleased to accept Rudd doing the “right thing” by apologising afterwards (100% in accordance with his responsibilities as ambassador).
Now, I have no liking for Rudd as a person at all. But this is not about Rudd. It is about the shit that is shovelled up by people who call themselves “journalists” but are really players who don’t have the guts to actually be politicians.

As for US polling – sheesh, with the huge differences between the different flavours of pollsters the Silver average at any one point could just be an indication of which flavour recently dropped a few bombs. AP-NORC and YouGov certainly arent good numbers for Trump. But there are pollsters in there giving him great numbers.
What interests me is Trumps attacks on blue states and blue cities. Now, sure, these places going bluer arent going to help much in the senate. But an angry blue wave there could yield House seats. Dem leadership want those places to do some nasty redistricting, I wonder if they need to.

The net approval ratings of leaders of Europe’s big 3 i.e. UK, France and Germany are atrocious.
If a Australian leader (irrespective of whether they belong to ALP, Libs or Nats) net approval ratings are even half of that, they would be replaced.

Sadly, I think you are correct about the devaluing of engineers with respect to doctors (Medicos) and Lawyers. It has been around for a long time. I remember my father talking to me about it in circa 1972 (I was young but even then considering a career in engineering or science). I also remember the many times when engineers found it hard to get a job, due to the rhythm of the economy – if things were going well, then new projects were started. But (about a five year cycle?) after the first burst of enthusiasm, the engineers were no longer required.
I particularly remember female civil engineers retraining as teachers – I came across them as they often needed to pick up some physics subjects to get qualified for teaching physics.
