BludgerTrack: 52.8-47.2 to Labor

Slight movement to the Coalition in this week’s poll aggregate reading, with still no sign of slackening in the trend towards One Nation.

A bit of a blip towards the Coalition in this week’s reading of the BludgerTrack poll aggregate, which only has a new Essential Research result to go on. This translates into extra seats for the Coalition in Victoria and Queensland. The only other feature of the result worth remarking on is that it’s still onwards and upwards for One Nation.

    BiS
I have used ‘I don’t accept the premise of your question’ and I think it was totally justified.
e.g “Given the pink batts fiasco, how can you promise that Labor will be able to deliver X?” contains within it an assumption that should be challenged. Letting it go through to the keeper simply allows the mistruth to be continued.
(Sophie Mirabella took out ads in all our local papers – there’s something like eleven of them – where she simply printed my “I don’t accept the premise of your question. The insulation program was very successful…” response in full – with big fonts and red lettering as a quarter page ad. I loved it.)

I agree, it is a valid tool when used properly but it is also used to try and shut down debate on an issue.

  2. On reflection, it’s an indication of how far America has regressed under Trump that a smart arsed comment like mine above can be seriously considered by some as being part of the new reality.

  3. Given the point that the Fair Work Commission made there is a case to counter it by saying Sundays are even more important and useful to most Australians now the churches’ influence and involvement have continued to wane.

But recent events and history also show that being out the country is no defence to such an event.

Can’t see how your last comment relates to what I’ve said at all.
Just as I can’t see how lizzie was being hubristic – and you haven’t been able to explain how she was.
But, once again, you’d rather go off on tangents than apologise, and I knew that in the beginning (unlike you, knowing something wasn’t going to achieve anything didn’t stop me trying…)

If you can’t see it for yourself, then you will never see it.

  6. The last job that Abetz did before he got the heave ho was to stack the Commission with worker haters.
It is staggering that virtually no journos have reflected on this over the past week.

  7. Cf the Corro Din Dins, the only humiliation that narcissists are interested in is the humiliation of others.
There was never ever the slightest chance that Trump was going to roll up.

I’ve been waiting for some mention of this, too, but they followed like little sheep when Cash pointed the finger at Shorten for having penalty rates included in FWC decisions.

  9. Can’t see what isn’t there, bemused.

Possibly you don’t understand the meaning of the term you used, which is, of course, no excuse.

  10. IT IS NOW OFFICIAL The Coalition has just doubled the government debt Labor incurred between 2007 and 2013. But with no devastating global recession to combat. No pressing need for economic stimulus. No extensive infrastructure investment to show for it. And in much shorter time.

If we recall the doomsday denunciations by the Coalition and the media of the debt during the Rudd and Gillard years, this must be the exclamation point on one of the most hypocritical narratives in Australia’s political history.

I gave a tourist directions to the nearest tube station, using my handy Tube app, and downloaded London map.

I told another pair of tourists the way to Big Ben.

  12. Poroti,
There is no specific mention of gun related deaths impacting the life expectancy stats, but with kids being killed by guns t that must have some effect.

  13. Good morning all,

I agree the FWC has been stacked and the MSM are too lazy to recognise the fact.

Saying that, I do think that labor is doing the right thing by not blaming the FWC or the Commissioners directly. Concentrate on the outcome, press the point it is not the FWC but the rules under which it operates that are the problem and committ to change the rules, overturn this current decision and protect workers into the future from a repeat.

Anything else and the coalition and its lapdog media would cloud the main issue of fairness and push the ” attack on the integrity of the FWC ” angle.

Labor should concentrate on pushing for changes to protect workers and call on Turnbull to join with labor in a bipartisan push to protect the lowest paid from any attack on their take home pay now and into the future.

    Cheers.

  14. Interesting development. Both John Schindler and Louise Mensch are being reported by none other than Russia Today. The reportage is apparently that they are anti Russian commentators. This tells me that they are on the right track with the Kremlin/Trump collusion. Lol

  16. Perhaps I heard it wrong, but it seems that Oz may be reducing Indonesian tariffs on sugar and pesticides. That should improve their health (sarcasm).

  17. Thanks BK,
And it was all free entry, with good prices for wine, beer and finger food.
I discussed seed banks and coral bleaching at on of the Scientist’s displays in the hall.

Friday night at The Natural History Museum was a blast. I got into the audience of a comedy event being filmed in The Attenborough studio. Two of tge three comedians were archaeologists. One was small, trim beautiful British woman of Arabian heritage. She does archaeology in conflict and disaster zones. Currently she works in Yemen. They were all very funny.
The compare was a commercial archaeologist who comes in when a building site finds anything.
Another lovely young woman was a Bone Archaologist and Neanderthal specialist, and there was the star act,
    ‘Stand-up comedy with Ella Al-Shamahi
    Attenborough Studio, 20.30-21.30

National Geographic Explorer, Neanderthal specialist and rising star of nerdy stand-up comedy, Ella Al-Shamahi, performs her latest uncensored set.

The cleanup of deadly level crossings is getting done.

The cleanup of MP entitlements will get done.

Interesting from Chris Bowen this morning that Bill Shorten had to be counselled by his colleagues following his 3aw interview last year re the FWA matter and encouraged to re-calibrate his position earlier this year.

  21. Labor just have to mention the former Solicitor General and the Human Rights Commission to any suggestion that they are attacking impartiality of an independent body. The can say “the current executive government disgracefully infringes inpartiality of such a body where Labor in government will legislate all such things appropriately, after having taken it to the people”

I’m glad you’re enjoying. The oldie, but goodie stuff is not in tourist books because it’s crap.

Once you understand how to get about the place is yours and there is so much to see.

(On a personal note: I hate the Tube – hence my preference to walk, along the river, from Aldersgate to Westminster)

  23. Priebus contacting intel officials about Russia investigation is the first stage of ‘a cover-up’: analyst

Appearing on MSNBC, an intelligence analyst hammered White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus for contacting intelligence officials about their investigations into Russian involvement in the Trump Administration, calling it, “the first stage of a cover-up.”

Friday it was revealed that Priebus had been in contact with top FBI officials — including Director James Comey and assistant director Andrew McCabe — asking that they help push back at stories linking Trump administration officials to Russian intelligence agents.

According to terrorism analyst Malcom Nance, the failed attempt by Priebus to bully intelligence officials is a sign that something is up.

  24. Americans Like Alec Baldwin’s Trump Better Than the Real Thing: Poll

Donald Trump hates Alec Baldwin’s impression of him. That puts Donald Trump in the minority.

According to a new poll from Morning Consult, a majority of Americans, 52 percent of adults, say they’ve enjoyed watching Baldwin parody—though just barely—the cartoon that is Trump. The most recent poll shows Trump’s approval rating, already at a record low when he took office, has plummeted to just 38 percent. That means Baldwin’s Trump parody is more liked than the real deal.

  25. Tom Perez is the new DNC chair narrowly beating Keith Ellison. This is probably going to piss off the progressive wing of the Dems.

  26. On Sunday mornings I record ‘Insiders’ but don’t generally watch unless some one on here highlights a bit.

Today I stabbed the pause button with Micheala Cash on view. Not pretty.

Senator’s who make the top of the list, or second, in states are ‘bought’ people. They are guaranteed $250,000 for 6 years.

They should be flushed at the end of one term.

If they want to go on then they should find a HoR seat.

  27. Maybe next time there is an election in the USA the 42% will get off their lazy arses and vote.People through the ages have fought and died for the right to vote and these non voters who couldnt give a monkeys end up with a lunatic in charge, then start whinging.
