YouGov: Labor 29, One Nation 26, Coalition 21 (open thread)

YouGov’s fortnightly poll widens the gap between One Nation and the Coalition, against the recent trend.

The fortnightly YouGov News24 Pulse poll has Labor up a point to 29%, One Nation up two to 26%, the Coalition down one to 21%, the Greens steady on 12%. Respondent-allocated two-party measures have Labor’s lead over One Nation unchanged at 56-44, and out from 52-48 to 53-47 against the Coalition. Anthony Albanese is down one on approval to 35% and up two on disapproval to 59%, while Angus Taylor is down two to 33% and up three to 49%. Albanese holds preferred prime minister leads of 44-37 over Angus Taylor, out from 42-38, and 52-37 over Pauline Hanson, out from 51-38.

The poll was conducted last Tuesday to this Monday from a sample of 1510; extensive breakdowns on voting intention are available in the accompanying report. We are also about due for the monthly Essential Research poll – if so, that’s likely to be live by the time you read this, either through The Guardian or the pollster’s website.   7. A new spaceport will bring 10 launch pads to Louisiana’s Gulf Coast and support thousands of Starship launches per year. SpaceX and Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry announced Tuesday (Aug. 25) a $100 billion investment in the state’s Vermilion Parish to build “Starbase Louisiana,” a sprawling new manufacturing and launch facility for SpaceX’s massive Starship rocket. It will be one of the biggest projects in the state’s history, and serve as SpaceX’s largest center for spaceflight operations.
    Once complete, the new site will feature five complexes that feature two Starship towers each, for a total of 10 launch pads across the facility, each with its own propellant farm. That fuel will also be produced onsite as well.

  9. Adam Morton continues to misrepresent the nature of ACCUs and the scrutiny they have undergone (as they perform the role that was intended for them when legislated by Labor and the Greens in 2011). For example:

    p. 4: Amendments to the CFI Act were made in April 2023 to bolster the capabilities of the ERAC, including making the Chair of the ERAC a full-time role. The ERAC has now grown to 7 members in addition to the Chair, appointed through competitive merit-based processes with expertise covering land sector abatement, the waste sector, First Nations knowledge and economics and climate policy.

This included prioritising additional audits for projects as part of ‘gateway checks’. The latest independent review of the process and outcomes of HIR gateway checks was published in July 2025.

    The new Reducing Methane Emissions from Landfill Gas method took effect on 28 November 2025. The new method applies upward sloping baselines to emissions from landfill gas facilities.

    On Tuesday, Trump wrote on Truth Social that the U.S. is “giving serious consideration” to the name change because it didn’t expect to be “doing much business with Ontario any longer.”

    Lake Ontario, one of the Great Lakes, spans the U.S.-Canada border. The northern portion of the lake is in Ontario and the southern portion is in New York. Canada likely wouldn’t recognize a unilateral name change by the U.S.

    The article examined the solar saver program and how it isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. They looked at many retailer offers and in my experience it is similar here.

    And it touches on the increases in daily charges. Bowen and the ACCC made statements about this back in June/July but have gone quiet since. It takes time, I guess, to review and investigate but meanwhile the retailers are charging these prices and people are paying them and the Liberal Party are making ads about them.

    The math gets fuzzy fast, though. Some counts put it at more than 3,000 data centers nationally with another 1,500 on deck. It’s that uncertainty that has helped make the murky topic even more potent for those who view the data center buildout as akin to a virus spreading across the heartland. (If one company has two warehouses on the same street, are they even separate?)

    Faced with the combined threats of resource depletion, higher energy costs, and potential job losses to motherboards, it’s no wonder this tech revolution has voters seeing a scary future.

    In politics, it’s seldom a bad instinct to find a villain and throw everything against it. But candidates doing a total 180 in the span of weeks may leave voters questioning its sincerity, especially when Trump has shown no willingness to join the spin.’

    This is the issue and across multiple industries. Utilities, Insurance, Banking, Communications and the list goes on.

    The loyalty tax is behavioral economics 101. But it disproportionally affects vulnerable groups. It would be nice to mitigate it via legislation, but I am not an expert in this area.
