The Australian reports the latest Newspoll has Labor down a point on three weeks ago to 29%, its weakest result since the government came to power; the Coalition down a point to 18%, a point higher than its record low in late June; One Nation down a point to 29%; and the Greens up two to 14%. The most substantial change in the poll is an improvement in Angus Taylor’s personal ratings, his approval up four to 34% and disapproval down five to 46%. Only net ratings are provided for Anthony Albanese, who is down from minus 18 to minus 22, and Pauline Hanson, who is down from neutral to minus three. Albanese’s lead over Taylor on preferred prime minister narrows from 44-36 to 44-37, while a three-way question has Anthony Albanese steady on 46%, Pauline Hanson down one to 31% and Angus Taylor up one to 23%. The report also says that some manner of head-to-head result has Albanese leading Hanson 56-44. The poll was conducted Monday to Friday from a sample of 1242.

The double standard in your argument remains, though. If the increase in the unemployment rate since May ’22 is “misleading”, then so too is the 1.2m jobs created claim. You can’t have it both ways.

So many people think that the Covid era is dead and buried.
It’s just not the case, here we are half a decade along and the impacts are still being felt. As an example the university sector now has the Covid high school cohort enrolled in their under graduate programs.
Many universities are reporting that they are seeing upwards of 50% of the UG students with mild to severe mental health impacts from 2020-21 years. The vast resource drain inside universities is almost impossible to measure and what this means on the front line is already overworked academic staff now have become unpaid social workers.
Thats just one example, but I am sure there is similar examples across the nation.

If the details of this story are correct, Labor and industry super funds need to act rapidly to remove this loophole. There is no excuse for super funds not to act in accordance with their policy holders’ written wishes.

In my view this sort of behavior is highly unethical, whether legal or not. It is exactly the sort of flaw that right wing opponents will use to attack industry funds with.
This follows the scandalous delays occurring since covid in super funds, including industry funds, paying account balances to families of deceased members. It took almost a year for Australian Super to pay out our family after my father’s death, even though there as a written will and clearly expressed direction for the estate split, and no dissenting parties.
To understand any joke involving melons you would need a solid grounding in the Australian vernacular. I don’t think that would be a common skill in Japan. Any body in Australia who is offended by a joke based on the Australian vernacular should be deported.

That is truly disgusting, out of interest did they pay a return on the fund for that period (ie were the funds treated as still invested so they grew) or were they frozen at a balance and effectively in trust for the delay period?

You’re backing a dead horse in trying to defend Albo’s ‘tit’ gesture. It was obvious from the expression on his face, his body language and the context in which the gesture was made that it had sexual overtones. But so what? It was just a bit of fun. It mightn’t have been all that well received in Japan but I’m sure they will get over it.
Look climate change is meant to kill the poors, if you aren’t enjoying it from one of you multiple mansions, personal islands and private jets and yatchs moving between them, you might be an expendable poor pencilled in to die for the greater good (billionaire class).
The interviewer made it about tits – that is, as a way of bringing melons undetected through customs. Albo knew the inference and played along. But I do believe his statement that the melon was a weird but wonderful gift was genuinely referring to the real melon and not a body part of the gift giver.
If an ex ambassador with close ties with the Liberal Party (according to the AFR) wants to take offense and somehow gets published in the Oz (of course), that doesnt mean the MSM needs to start dancing to the same tune.
