As reported in The Australian, Newspoll has become the last poll series to return for the year, showing the Coalition opening up a 51-49 two-party lead after a 50-50 result in the last poll in early December. Labor is down two points on the primary vote to 31%, its equal worst result for the term, with the Coalition steady on 39%, the Greens up one to 12% and One Nation steady on 7%. Anthony Albanese’s personal ratings are his worst result to date at both ends, with approval down three to 37% and disapproval up three to 57%, while Peter Dutton is up one to 40% and steady on 51%. Albanese’s lead as preferred prime minister narrows from 45-38 to 44-41, also Albanese’s weakest showing this term. The poll also finds 24% expect a Coalition majority government, 29% a Coalition minority, 33% a Labor minority and 15% a Labor majority. The poll was conducted Monday to Friday from a sample of 1259.
Newspoll: 51-49 to Coalition (open thread)
The first Newspoll of the year maintains an impression of an ongoing slow downward trend for Labor.
Centre is absolutely a CC denier.

Even if it turns out she is a DEI hire?
Would you bet on a climate scientist or an idiot on the internet?
So Kirksdate, by extension our electricity bill is similar to yours, about $130 per month for a 12 room house where we are joined once a week and for celebrations by a family of 17 (excluding us) plus we have a tribe of Grandchildren around on a regular basis, hence our usage where we only have gas heating and gas oven hotplates, the oven electric
The last 2 monthly gas bill was $40-, so the summer low cycle
The reason for this response?
The headline at The Age promoting saving $3,000- on your power bills
I said to my wife where does the ability to save $3,000- come from because all up we spend less than that in total, electricity and gas
And $75- off this month bought the electricity bill down TO $50-
I have asked our children what they are paying
None of them at $3,000-
So where do these stories come from and why?
Save $3,000- off your power bills
Except we don’t pay that much in the first place

Never seen you point to a mathematical flaw in my posts – ever. Do you know why? Because you can’t!
Go back to primary school and pretend to be Will Happer, that’s the best you will ever do.

Yeah, she has a loyal following from some posters. There are other posters who are better at pseph and politics on this site, but at least with nadia, you get treated fairly unless you jack her up.
She’s a good sort on this site.
How about you though?
@Peter C
That must be a typo, basically Labor went to the 2022 election promising to reduce power bills by $275 and they’ve done so by $300 in four $75 installments.
Not that most people would know about it since the media just has angry LNP people and their sycophants lying about things 95% of the time.

No, i’m not a Nadia cultist, i’ll leave that to you.
Though it is good you have found a group.
While I’m strongly of the view that Australia needs to rapidly and significantly reduce migration, if in the short term there is an opportunity to secure US LGBT military personnel or tech workers for us, I’d be for that.

Yep Peter C – Kirsdarke could relate to your 12 room house. Good for you, Sir.
Pity the electricity rebates weren’t means tested. Bit of an Albo fail, me thinks.
Yes Peter C understands wealth maximisation and tax minimisation are two sides of the same coin.

I wouldn’t say you had an original mind, nath. You can’t quit the ‘stooges’ line for love or money.
Entropy – Centre is not a loser. He had the U.S. election called in favour of Trump, about 2 weeks before voters starting filling in ballots.
Listen to what Centre has to say, because it is you, mate, who has very little clue on politics.
In fact, most of your posts have very little to do with politics whatsover.

Any highly qualified person, that has just lost their job. Under the diversity purge that is occurring in the USA currently. It would be smart for Australia to make offers. I assume many other countries will be doing similar. As in the long term countries need to set up industries to make themselves non-reliant on USA trade. As being reliant on trade either to or from USA puts a country in a perilous position. Something all countries need to look to minimise, as much as possible. As any trade with the USA can be used to blackmail a country. Countries are better off without it.

Re Katie Allen, it’s not just Nadia88’s informed opinion, it’s Allen’s performance in 2019/2022.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electoral_results_for_the_Division_of_Higgins
Kelly O’Dwyer, the luxury toaster lady, got a primary vote in Higgins of 52% in 2016 (the time that Shorten did a victory lap after his podium finish). Allen lost 6% after prefs in 2019 to a strong Labor candidate (Fiona McLeod), then another 4.7% in 2022. Not a good track record.
You said: “considering Dutton opened in Chisholm and Liberals have branded Chisholm one of it’s targets, it’s clear they’re confident in gaining this seat.”
Liberal (or anyone else’s confidence) and reality may diverge a lot. Note that Dutton did not make a point of revising his views about China in his Chisholm speech. It is possible that many Chinese-Australian voters will have longer memories about LNP policies than other voters.
Re Bradfield, note that Ms Boele played her fiddle well as the underdog on the ABC TV news tonight. Kapterian starts with quite a handicap due to her late preselection (apart from the fact that she beat Mundine by only 29 votes). Neither Hockey nor Berejiklian will help her much.

While there could be some sock puppets around. The majority of posters who change names. Don’t concurrently use both names. Like we use to have a poster called “Gympie”. Who stopped posting as “Gympie” and started posting as “Badthinker”. They then stopped posting as “Badthinker”. So i assume they are possibly around under another moniker?
I’m only mentioning this poster, as i think they would fit well in your group too.

I’ve gone back to doing Wikipedia work tonight and managed to finish putting up the results of the 1915 South Australian state election.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Results_of_the_1915_South_Australian_state_election_(House_of_Assembly)
I’m surprised I didn’t do it sooner since it came just after a redistribution at the time so I didn’t have to put in the swings and there’s no way I’d be able to do that for an election 110 years ago. While the numbers seem off between the Liberals and Labor, that’s because 11 of Labor’s MP’s were returned unopposed while no Liberal seats remained uncontested.
Thanks Kirsdarke.
Out of interest, are you a left or right winger.
Most of us “on the right” disregard wikipedia. We think it’s all rigged & distorted by the left.
That is, the “left” get in there & fiddle around with reality. They distort it to suit a narrative, and then present it all as fact. Who are your colleagues and “fact checkers”. All lefties, no doubt.
So are you left or right?
If you’re right, then i’ll take what you’ve done on wikipedia as true.
But if you’re left oriented, then I shall raise an eyebrow to any of your interpretations.
Sorry, that’ s where it is at in 2025.
Polarised.

A clear and present example of post-truth politics. Have we hit the peak? Maybe. Will there will be a reaction against this in time? Will Gen Alpha opt for another approach?

Pathetic.
Like the ear-ring too Albo. Yeah, great photo to use. Add in the “looney eyes” photo. Great pic.
Clueless media department in your office. Who’se the idiot you hired from the Guardian???
Bye bye Albo. You won’t be missed.
Oncer.
Conservative posters seem pretty convinced the current Labor government are done and dusted. In spite of their criticisms and rhetoric, the economic news was good today. If the RBA move to cut rates in February, it will be game on. Poll margins generally always tighten during campaigns. A week is a long time in politics. And the election is still potentially four months away. The conservatives currently hold the advantage. Make no mistake, that can change.
New thread.
Trump has done a solid job so far. He is doing what he can against a biased legacy media who kept on spreading the misinformation of the Biden era (such as him being mentally competent for office, which, according to his own insiders, was false).
Biden was one of the worst Presidents since Jimmy Carter – directionless and adrift on policy. At least Trump has a vision and is doing exactly what he said he’d do. Legacy media outlets are gradually dying out and clutching at anything to say what they can against him.
Seems a lot of the usual posters on here are happy to pick apart any faults of Trump, Elon Musk, etc and ignoring the crooked misinformation peddled by the Democrats.
So far so good for Trump and look forward to see what he does next.
Ch 7 Needle found much of the LNP swing is in rural and regional seats they already hold. Once Dutton is properly scrutinised as the election gets closer he’ll lose couple of points. Can’t vote no to all cost of living relief, Housing Bills, to even criminalising wage theft , then threaten major cut and lower wages without losing a point or 2. Given spending kept us out of recession it is obviously where those policies would lead, just like it did in NZ.
