Two more pollsters get their last results in for the year, one being the fortnightly Essential Research series, which has Labor down two to 30%, the Coalition steady on 35%, the Greens up two to 13% and One Nation down two to 6%, with the undecided component steady at 5%. The pollster’s 2PP+ measure is unchanged at Coalition 48%, Labor 47% and undecided 5%. Also included are the monthly leadership ratings which have Anthony Albanese down four on approval to 39%, his worst result of the term, with disapproval up two to an equal worst 50%. Peter Dutton is up two on approval to 44% and steady on 41% disapproval. A montly question on national direction reverses an improvement last month, with a four point drop in right direction to 31% and three point increase in wrong direction to 51%. The full report features a number of further questions in that vein. The poll was conducted Wednesday to Sunday from a sample of 1151.
The weekly Roy Morgan series, which may prove an exception to the rule of pollsters taking a break over Christmas and New Year, gives Labor its worst result of the term with a half-point drop on the primary vote to 27.5% while the Coalition gains three to 41%, with the Greens down half to 12.5% and One Nation down one-and-a-half to 5%. The headline two-party measure is unchanged on 52-48, but Labor does uncommonly well out of its respondent-allocated preference flow: the alternative measure based on 2022 election flows, which is invariably more favourable for Labor, has the Coalition leading 51.5-48.5 after a 50-50 result last time. The poll was conducted Monday to Sunday from a sample of 1672.
Stooge,
I appreciate you have your values, but you have very little in common with what & how voters think.
I’ve seen your ridiculous posts on the former U.S threads, some of which verged well beyond wishcasting and well into “crazy luna park” land. I can re-post some of your pearls, if required.
Mexican beemer – I think Rainman was treated harshly. To be called a fake is a disgrace.
Although I am one of those “evil Tories”, I think rainman has quite decent working class values.
I note both Been there & nadia also have a high respect for rainman.
So with that : rainman = good. The other poster = bad.
I see two interesting outcomes of posts this evening.
A couple of comments confirm that the religious element of Xmas is fading away. In fact, the christian religion in first world countries is on the decline everywhere, not just at Xmas time. Isn’t it interesting that east asian capitalist non christian countries make a bigger deal of Xmas than we do.
Then we have the major battle about who will control the Victorian Libs, the IPA faction or the religious nutters. In SA it would appear that religious nutters are in control and obviously in opposition. In WA it is slightly different with the religious crowd known as the Clan and the other faction owned by big business and big mining.
There is no doubt that the religious nutters, if not ascendent, then they certainly have significant clout within the Liberal Party. So we return to my first point, well educated thinkers in first world countries know that religion is bullshit. The religious nutters have left their run too late by about 100 years, and the Liberals will never be a significant force if they don’t get rid of them.

They’ve worked out a purely renewable energy system won’t work. Just like every other advanced economy.
__________________
The only reason that a purely renewable energy system could be considered deficient is that it shits all over fossil fuel and nuclear power generation in terms of cost and is therefore a disrupter.
Nuclear power generation is a bit like the proverbial dead parrot. It’s absolutely uneconomic and we have the sensible alternative readily available. Nuclear power is so uneconomic that no commercial entity would or could touch it without massive underwriting from several generations of taxpayers.
New thread.
@stooge:
“ Nah. The UAP – a reactionary outfit if there ever was one – dissolved itself. The Liberal Party was constituted as a progressively-oriented non-Labor force. It arose from the tradition of Deakin and Barton, who believed in the necessity of both nation-building and social reform.”
______
Shenanigans.
The Liberal Party is an 80 year old marketing scam, constituted by the Melbourne Advertising Industry and bankrolled by the ww2 black marketers, bootleggers, war profiteers and tax dodgers (GarBar’s clients). Menzies was the frontman, Casey its Sith lord philosopher priest and GarBar was the bagman.
The 2024 version of the Liberal party is simply late stage 4 metastasis; much like the Trump-republic is merely late stage Nixon-Ailes metastasis.

I reckon the Treasurer is onto something with measuring what matters!
Unlike UN inequality-adjusted Human Development Index/ SDG, GNH/ OECD Better Life Index, WEForum World Competitiveness Index/ WCR, TI Corruptions Perceptions Index …

This guy reckons, Labour UK won by taking on the Tories trying to turn green energy into a culture war and the Tories losing the war.
