Two more pollsters get their last results in for the year, one being the fortnightly Essential Research series, which has Labor down two to 30%, the Coalition steady on 35%, the Greens up two to 13% and One Nation down two to 6%, with the undecided component steady at 5%. The pollster’s 2PP+ measure is unchanged at Coalition 48%, Labor 47% and undecided 5%. Also included are the monthly leadership ratings which have Anthony Albanese down four on approval to 39%, his worst result of the term, with disapproval up two to an equal worst 50%. Peter Dutton is up two on approval to 44% and steady on 41% disapproval. A montly question on national direction reverses an improvement last month, with a four point drop in right direction to 31% and three point increase in wrong direction to 51%. The full report features a number of further questions in that vein. The poll was conducted Wednesday to Sunday from a sample of 1151.
The weekly Roy Morgan series, which may prove an exception to the rule of pollsters taking a break over Christmas and New Year, gives Labor its worst result of the term with a half-point drop on the primary vote to 27.5% while the Coalition gains three to 41%, with the Greens down half to 12.5% and One Nation down one-and-a-half to 5%. The headline two-party measure is unchanged on 52-48, but Labor does uncommonly well out of its respondent-allocated preference flow: the alternative measure based on 2022 election flows, which is invariably more favourable for Labor, has the Coalition leading 51.5-48.5 after a 50-50 result last time. The poll was conducted Monday to Sunday from a sample of 1672.
All this talk about the USA using nuclear reactors for power. The fact is the USA has only started construction on one nuclear reactor since 1979. That one the Vogtle reactor began construction in 2009 and was only completed in 2024. It had massive cost overruns.
Note: The Watts Bar Unit reactor did come on line in 2016 but work first started on it in 1973.
Entropy – she is aligned to the “moderate” faction of the Vic LNP.
Clearly you have little understanding of Vic Lib politics, by your stupid statement.
The debate over “Christmas” of all periods, to decide this, is whether she has the numbers to secure the LOTO or most likely Battin (who is from the conservative wing and has been in parliament for several terms).
Looks like Battin to me. As previously said, if the Tories have the numbers, they’re not going to give the gig to anyone other than one of their own.

She is clearly not as quotes and article i posted clearly states. She actually fought against the moderate faction to gain power as the Young Liberal President. She is no moderate, she is a IPA aligned Conservative. The other faction are religious nutter conservatives. The moderates are pretty much extinct. The article i posted showed the role she played in getting rid of the moderates in the Young Liberals.
Please do some reading of articles, including the one i posted. Which i will repost below. Before you make anymore unfounded and stupid comments. I even put the quotes from the article in my post. Did you actually read them.
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-06-30/turf-wars-young-liberals/7553020
“Jess Wilson had the weight of the IPA behind her.
An email in support of her was dispatched to members from Simon Brehany, the IPA’s policy director and the immediate past president of the Young Liberals — one of three past presidents in IPA employ at the time.
Mr Paterson was another, and the third was IPA legal fellow Aaron Lane, who was state Young Liberals president in 2013. He is Jess Wilson’s fiance.”
Do you even live in Victoria? The moderate faction was practically destroyed by the Victorian Conservative. Then went to war with themselves. Splitting into two factions the IPA aligned Conservatives and the Religious Conservatives. Jess Wilson is a IPA aligned Conservative.
So in this factional war in the young Liberals in 2016:
“Jess Wilson, the incumbent president elected unopposed the year before, was facing a challenge from the rebels’ chosen candidate, Luke Corcoran, a long-time member of the movement described as a “small-L Liberal” with broad personal popularity among members.”
It is Luke Corcoran that is representing the moderates. While Jess Wilson represents the Conservative (before the split into IPA and religious Conservatives).
By modern standards Nixon was incredibly Liberal, he would be a liberal Democrat in the USA of today. The right has completely owned the last forty years over there it is hard to think of one thing the American left has actually achieved since LBJ.
paulA,
Yet again completely missing the wood for the trees. It was Rainman who initially stated that he was the ‘superior’ one. I simply said, wtte, you think so?
This is what he wrote:
‘I’ll put my union and Labor party credentials up against anyone here.” And this @4.48pm:
‘Dream away self-aggrandizing fool.
You have nothing on me.’
He asked the question, said his credentials were better than (superior) to mine and I simply replied that mine, and those of my family, were more substantial than his. Which they are. I can’t help that.
That’s all it was. Not how you have characterised it at all. I didn’t abuse or troll him, he abused me. I merely stood up for myself in the face of it.
Which is exactly what nadi88 did to me. I respected that because she stated her case and I amended my judgement based upon that exchange. Now we are fine. It’s called, resolving your differences amicably.
Is Jess Wilson another scion of the Wilson political Victorian Liberal family, like Tim Wilson and Geoff Wilson?
There have been no Christmas Culture Wars this year. In fact it no longer seems to be a thing. The warriors are keeping their powder dry for Australia Day.

How much was Eisenhower in charge of his foreign policy? He made what Kim Beazley regarded as the biggest error of US foreign policy after WW II, the CIA overthrow of Mossadegh in Iran in 1953. That created the Shah’s brutal dictatorship, which lasted 25 years and, because the mullahs were the least repressed element in the society, led to theocracy.

Unfortunately the “free article” feature didn’t work for me, just I’ll clarify what I think.
Yes, Ruben Gallego did very well in his Senate election, but it would be better to hold him up as a regular American bloke that appeals to his voters than someone who ticks enough DEI boxes as the Democratic Consultants tend to be obsessed with.
AOC also didn’t get as popular as she is by constantly waving her minority status in the air, she did it by learning how to cut through directly to her voters.
Meanwhile one big thing I remember about Kamala Harris was an interview she did in 2022 just after Roe v. Wade was repealed and all she had to say about it was mealy-mouthed worthless rhetoric being like “Well someone’s got to do something, just what do you want me to do about it?” (shrug)

As for Xmas most people haven’t cared about religion for sometime now, it’s a consumer festival. If there’s less decorations around it’s probably a combo of people having less money to spend and a general lack of enthusiasm probably mostly because of that.

One Corcoran backer said the unexpected closeness of the contest offered hope for a successful challenge next year.
“It’s coming to the end of an era now with that hard-right libertarian side,” he said. “There will be a challenge next year. They’ll be knocked off in the next year or two.”
Jess Wilson was, from the article, that hard-right libertarian side.

You have little idea about politics.
The internal party members know which side of the fence candidates sit on.
With the libs it used to be wets v dries.
Now it is tory faction v moderates.
In Labor it used to be the pledge faction v unity.
Now it is the right v the socialist left (Albo’s faction, and you’ve seen how internal “democracy” played out in Barton).
Wilson is a moderate. You’ve produced a photo to prove the same. I’m telling you she is a moderate, but you can believe what you wish to believe of course.
Bev MacArthur is the “head” of the Victorian religious wing of the LNP. She has about 5 votes. Battin is the head of the conservative wing. He has about 8 votes. 9 if you include Groth, and 10 when Deeming is re-admitted.
The Tory and Religious wings have united to seize control.
The moderate wing is headed by Pesutto. He holds a seat which will probably go ALP or Green next election. He reflects the views of his seat, no doubt, but he does not reflect the views of the broader LNP membership, which skews conservative. Their future is the outer suburbs, regional area’s and rural area’s. You see they are already making a play for Werribee. Prahran may be a tough one, but Werribee is in reach.
I notice the equivalent Federal seat of Gellibrand came up for discussion on this site last weekend.
Rather than engaging with your petty “pro-Labor” narrative and “agreeing” with silly c@t on everything, perhaps read what other posters have to say on this site.
Some of them are actually on the money with trends.
You aren’t!
Conservative or moderate at least Jess Wilson was the only Victorian Liberal to publicly support the Voice.

She is an IPA aligned Conservative. There is actually no reason why Conservative can’t support the Voice. Her electorate of Kew is within the Federal electorate of Kooyong. Which voted 59.8% in favour of the Voice. So i doubt she will have any problems for doing so.
The IPA is very economically conservative but also very socially progressive. Jess Wilson is of that mould.

I’m not sure that’s quite right (reading this as meaning elected Liberal representative) – Julian Leeser was public in his support, wasn’t he? He actually resigned from shadow Cabinet after the Libs put forward the No case as formal party policy, from memory.
Edit – I see you edited to add the Victorian qualifier – which I’m sure is spot on then.
Jess Wilson might be from the IPA but she is more liberal than reactionary so is a moderate and a Wilson leadership might have federal implications because any honeymoon might help Hamer but the liberals will probably go Batten but labor won’t want to gloat too much because the liberals changed leader in 91.

That is sadly true. Those that want Labor to go the full Norway would be most disappointed in that if they do so, not only would all those reforms be immediately repealed once the Coalition takes power, but as long as Labor commits to those reforms, they’ll be shut out of power forever until they stop committing to them.
I do suppose that would very much suit those who can afford to last another 20+ year perpetual Coalition government, such as most Greens, but it would suck for the rest of us.

The country would be so much better off if your party were to dissolve itself and start again. I know a few Liberals. They’re not good for much. I wouldn’t entrust them with the running of a corner store let alone a city or a State and still less the country. These roles are completely beyond them.

==========================
Stooge, you mean you would like the Libs to dissolve, and go away.
Nah. The UAP – a reactionary outfit if there ever was one – dissolved itself. The Liberal Party was constituted as a progressively-oriented non-Labor force. It arose from the tradition of Deakin and Barton, who believed in the necessity of both nation-building and social reform. These concepts are completely alien to the Reactionary misfits who have inherited the organisation created by Menzies.
It’s true I hope for a stronger social estate, for a more complete social justice…for a greater equality. These ideas are objects of derision for the Reactionary. The truth is that there is less social and economic mobility now than there was 40 years ago. There is more pronounced and more extensive economic inequality. As a population we face very substantial challenges. The Reactionaries deny these challenges even exist.
Today’s argument sees the points go to Rainman and Paul A.
C@T argues against greater economic and social inclusion by saying the royal commission got it wrong about employment quotas but it doesn’t look like she read it or understood it because the 7% employment quota matches the Australian Public Service Commission’s 7% target by 25 and the Victorian Public Sector Commission 12% target by 25 but the problem is its up against gender quotas so employers put the quota first and this economic and social exclusion is feeding into growing opposition to gender equality and is hurting labor and the left’s vote.
Norway records a very substantial current account surplus/ capital deficit. That is, to stabilise its exchange rate it uses State power to insulate its own economy from excess capital inflows. It receives income from abroad and invests that flow abroad as well.
This makes a lot of sense. Everyone would choose that if they were in Norway’s boots. Very few economies are like Norway. Australia is in the opposite position to Norway. We record a current account deficit/capital account surplus.
GDP per capita in Norway is above USD100000….huge.
