Things other than Queensland and the US

Some minor news on the local opinion polling front to keep things ticking over.

With the last open thread threatening to fall off the bottom page amid a thicket of Queensland and US-specific posts, here’s a refresher. Newspoll is having an off-week to avoid Queensland election static, although Essential Research should be along with its fortnightly attitudinal results tomorrow. All I have to relate other than that is:

• There has apparently been progress in the establishing of an Australian Polling Council, potentially meaning a new age of full disclosure by pollsters of their weights and breakdowns. Its members are YouGov, Essential Research, Ipsos, uComms, JWS Research, Lonergan Research and Telereach.

• The Australia Institute has published a report on attitudes to climate change that I’m a little too busy for right now, but you can find it here.

Kos Samaras of RedBridge Group discusses polling conducted in September showing 57% of Melburnians think the state Liberal opposition has not “played a constructive role during this pandemic.

  1. A reminder here for those saying the Greens are Little Libs.

Adam Bandt’s Press Club Speech was about how detrimental the neo liberal privatisation of public services has been.

There have been many Labor leaders prosecuting exactly the same agenda.

You all need to embrace reality not your fantasy.

    Another Doughnut day!

Dan Andrews had 2 days off, & we have 2 days of 0 cases. Coincidence?

Not according to “scientific modeling” in the Australian, Sky News & #LNPeta! Press conferences = cases, exclusive data shows.

This is a joke, like them.

It’s amazing how desperate you lot are becoming!

I must admit I find it difficult to understand why the Labor partisans here are so unhinged at the moment. They just won an impressive victory in Queensland, and the Green vote fell (albeit not much).

Ok, the Greens won two seats, one of which was off Labor, but honestly – you’d think the Greens were baby eaters the way the Labor hacks here are carrying on at the moment. Far worse even than usual.

    Can anyone explain it?

  4. Kronomex

Trump plays the clown to disguise the sinister piece of shit he really is.

One dangerous sadistic excuse for a human being. He knows how many more people are going to die in next few months from COVID in the USA.
I would argue it is a feature not a bug for the likes of this disgusting creature.

  5. Lizzie

Dr Morris is making a joke regarding the conduct of the newscorpse stable.

It is impossible to take any of them seriously. They are cheerleading Trump all the way, whist expecting us to be disgusted with the efforts of the vic govt.
    They are beyond redemption.

  6. I occasionally switch over momentarily to sky news and fox channel to see what they are reporting. It is truly a parallel universe.

The Part I will never understand is how many people are so brainwashed by what they have to say. It is terribly disturbing to say the least.

  7. Another reminder of why calling the Greens Bourgeoisie with no care for workers is BS.

They want to raise taxes to pay for government services. They believe in the common good.

That’s not the professed follow Reagan and Thatcher outlook of the LNP.

So you guys can stop your BS that the Greens are for getting the right into power.

The only unhinged are greens who are determined to wipe out Labor Party

That’s why they are bashing of the unseating of Jackie.

  9. It’s quite simple, I think. Track and trace can only succeed when there are quite low levels of community infections. To get to that place from rampant infection rates and caseload, lockdowns and other blanket preventive action must be taken in advance.
    Good luck UK and US.

  10. I note that in Albo’s ‘wide ranging interview’ he gives his reasons for not naming specific amounts for new newstart, etc., most of which seem logical.

However, his defence of daytime SkyTV as having “good journos” might be questionable.

“Is there bias in some elements of the media? Yes there is. Sky after dark doesn’t give Labor a fair go, for example. But Sky during the day is a very different thing, with journalists who take their job seriously,” he said.

“There are many good journalists in News Limited.

“There are many whose political position is very clear. I think what’s very important, is news outlets draw a clear distinction for readers or listeners about what is news and what is opinion.”

  11. I am a little nervous about the US election. I am expecting a landslide to the dems and them taking the senate and retaining the house. Anything less will be a nightmare for us all,

  12. Socrates, you are right to point out that Labor hoovered up quite a few of the One Nation crumbs as a result of their continued lurch to the right. Not sure that’s really something to be proud of, though.

Apart from the huge support we gained in our two seats, there are now quite a number of other seats that weren’t close before the election but are now on the verge of going Green.

    Take Cooper for example:

    https://www.abc.net.au/news/elections/qld/2020/guide/coop/

Just look at the decline in support for the parties of the establishment and the huge surge in the Greens’ primary. 10%!! That’s a truly massive swing!!

  13. Ashby claims that ON’s vote crashed in Queensland as a result of a lack of media exposure. That’s not true: Hanson’s a regular guest on Sky News After Dark. And weren’t they shocked to find their favoured candidate – Frecklington – get a shellacking on Saturday, poor windbag Murray going into a deep depression, coming to the sad realisation that Sky and the Murdoch tabloids failed miserably to get their candidate up. What’s more, they’ll become even more depressed on Wednesday when their pin-up boy is trumped by uncle Joe Biden.

Get used to it, g. Grow philosophical about it. The Greens are Labor-phobic. They have always been thus and now they have the joy of representing electorates packed with Labor-phobic voters. They chose this long ago and now they have fulfilled their dreams.

Those devils, the LNP, will marshal more votes for the Greens as a way of undermining Labor. They want the Greens. They can have them as far as I’m concerned.

  15. Kevin Rudd was asked some questions by the Daily ToiletPaper, here are his answers…

‘Here are the questions Murdoch put to my office last night, and the answers that were sent back.

The idea that US Ambassador Max Baucus needed Hunter Biden (or anyone else) to obtain “access” to me is absurd— Max and I have known each other since well before he started that job.

  16. ‘One example. The Greens have wanted more public housing than Labor.’

As long as it’s nowhere close to where they actually live.

Brings down the property prices, you know.

  17. I wonder if, in the coming weeks and more likely months, the SAD crew will do relentless bagging of Boris Johnson in the UK for causing the UK economy to go into a tailspin?

  18. Briefly

No matter how many times you repeat your fantasies is just that fantasy.

You may hate it but the Greens are factually a left wing progressive party.

They are no “front” or fifth column for the LNP.
They are just a progressive party in their own right.

  19. Guytaur now admitting an alliance with LNP, we have made progress.

LNP “are progressives”…. but Labor are not ? Labor just faction right wing?

  20. Zerlo

You fantasise about what I said.

All in denial of the fact Labor is whining.

Jacinda Ardern has made the whining crystal clear.
With a clear landslide majority she is having Greens Ministers in her government.

The contrast with Australian Labor is stark.

Uncomfortable truth: there is a reasonable chance that Victoria will locally eliminate #COVID19, leaving NSW as the only state with sustained local transmission. Instead of improving our position,
@GladysB has been focused on brow-beating other Premiers. #nswpol #covid19nsw

  22. With an indecent history like he has, who converted Trump to a pretence of Christianity? 😆

Biden will terminate school choice, eliminate charter schools, defund religious schools, ban prayer in public schools, indoctrinate your children with Anti-American lies, and force you to subsidize extreme late-term abortion. We believe that every child is a Sacred Gift from God!

  23. Sky News is just a far right vaudeville with a bunch of side show alley clowns ranting and raving and getting their rocks off with bizarre anti Labor diatribes. It can’t be good for one’s health to be behaving this way day in day out. Is this the sort of undignified lowbrow three stooges style nonsense Murdoch appreciates? Many former Newscorp journalists have nothing but contempt for their former employers. I can’t understand why Albanese doesn’t take a harder line. From up here in Q. it seems they are a disgusting bunch but maybe in the small media pond of Sydney everybody knows everybody else and albo thinks they are not so bad. I’ve also heard Murdoch has cut off Trump in the US, Murdoch thinks he can’t win. It seems some of Trump’s greatest sycophants at Fox News are softening the coverage on Biden to keep the oldmate happy.

  24. Guytaur Australian Labor is not in power. You can not compare the two.

If they were they would see similar victory in ACT, NZ, Qld.

Liberal Party who you got preference from in South Brisbane are in power and are like Trump

You sided with someone who are evil

  25. On Brexit, I can’t help but feel that most of the UK still think of Brexit in terms of vaudevillian entertainment.

The government has finally vowed not to allow chlorinated chicken or hormone-fed beef on British supermarket shelves, defying demands from the US that animal welfare standards be lowered as part of a future trade deal

    https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/nov/01/uk-will-not-import-chlorinated-chicken-from-us-ministers-brexit

And “Yes Minister” continues to be prophetic.

The commission, on which the National Farmers’ Union and the Food and Drink Federation sit, will now be asked to produce an independent report on the impact on animal welfare and agriculture of each free trade deal the government signs after Brexit.

  26. Zerlo

Labor won a majority in the Queensland election. They too could show leadership by having a Green Minister just like Ardern and ACT Labor.

It won’t happen. Labor is too scared of the LNP and Murdoch.

We’re back in the wild! The days of the lecture theatre and its purple media wall are gone.. Transport Infrastructure Minister @JacintaAllanMP is providing the daily Coronavirus update today… from a level crossing removal site in Coburg @10NewsFirst #SpringSt #COVID19Vic

  28. Guytaur nobody cares about that. It’s petty politics during a International crises one that effects not just health but jobs.

But you siding with LNP gives you what sort of special treatment by getting their preferences?

Will they get a LNP Minister in a Green Government.

  29. Just to be provocative, if we accept that NZ Labor did not need to form a governing coalition with a minor party, but did so anyway, would it not make sense for Labor in Qld to reach out to KAP, rather than The Greens?

  30. Zerlo

You are the one siding with the LNP and Murdoch.

    You said it yourself.

New Zealand does not have a Murdoch press. That’s an admission you are scared of Murdoch.

  31. This isn’t the first time Greens giving LNP a leg up over Labor and certainly won’t be the last.

Why should greens have someone represented in a Labor Government after the way they treated Labor?

If it wasn’t clear to you before, it should be by now. Law enforcement agencies across the country are misusing their incredible powers to suppress opposition to Donald Trump while allowing the president’s supporters to do as they please.

LNP and Greens taking seats from Labor – Labor didn’t take seats from Greens.

    Another lie by Green donkeys.

Oh Labor not afraid, Keven Rudd has biggest petitions to do something about that very issue.

Unlike Green donkeys who continue to spat on labor trying to bully them into a Coalition.

    Yep.

Caravans of President Trump’s supporters blockaded the Mario M. Cuomo Bridge and the Garden State Parkway on Sunday, snarling traffic on two of the busiest highways in the New York metropolitan area just two days before Election Day.

Videos taken by motorists showed the president’s backers parked in the middle of the westbound lanes of the bridge, which carries Interstate 287 across the Hudson River and is named for the father of the current governor, Andrew M. Cuomo.

A number of them exited their vehicles in the rain and waved Trump banners and American flags as motorists honked their horns.

The episode happened around midafternoon, with the caravan lining up on the interstate’s shoulder in Tarrytown before driving onto the span.

In New Jersey, a caravan of Trump supporters snarled traffic on the northbound lanes of the Garden State Parkway near the Cheesequake Service Area in South Amboy, according to videos and local media reports.

New York State Police and New Jersey State Police did not immediately respond to requests for comment, and it was not immediately clear if there were any arrests.

In the final days of the election, Mr. Trump’s backers have flocked to major roadways to show their fealty to the president, sometimes with aggressive tactics. In Texas, multiple vehicles bearing Trump flags and signs surrounded a Biden-Harris campaign bus heading from San Antonio to Austin on Friday, forcing the Biden campaign officials to scrap two events, according to reports by Democratic officials.

“Folks, this is not who we are,” Mr. Biden said during a campaign stop in Philadelphia on Sunday. He said the Trump supporters “tried to run it off the road,” referring to his own campaign bus.

“We are so much better than this,” he said. “It’s not who we are. And we gotta change it.”

The quiet part, screamed: Trump tells reporters that “we’re going to go in the night of, as soon as that election is over [in PA], we’re going in with our lawyers … if people wanted to get their ballots in, they should have gotten their ballots in long before that.”

  36. Yes run away from argument that you started….

Greens like it when they dish it out to others but don’t accept criticism when they know they are WRONG.

So they run away under the bed of LNP.
