Newspoll: 51-49 to Coalition

Scott Morrison records another personal best approval rating, as Newspoll maintains its stable-to-a-fault record on voting intention.

The Australian reports the latest Newspoll has the Coalition’s lead at 51-49, unchanged on three weeks ago. On the primary vote, the Coalition is steady at 42%, Labor up a point to 35%, the Greens down one to 11% and One Nation down one to 3%. Scott Morrison records another personal best on leader ratings, his approval up two to 68% and disapproval down two to 27%, while Anthony Albanese is now at 42% on both approval and disapproval, which are respectively up by one and two. Morrison’s lead as preferred prime minister is at 58-26, out from 56-26. The poll was conducted Wednesday to Saturday from a sample of 1521.

  1. Paris has a densely-packed population which imports air, water, food, shelter materials, energy, clothes, consumables and durables, and exports rubbish, polluted air, polluted water, garbage, shit and piss.

Paris is responsible for massive ecological damage in all the places that provide it with what it consumes. Most of Paris is a biological desert.

Only Inner Urbs Greens would even dare use the word ‘ecological’ in this context.

Making Paris more ‘ecological’ would basically involve exporting millions of Parisians to somewhere else.

  2. I have not been very impressed with the way the MSM is reporting the new saliva test. Just the facts please. That shouldn’t be hard for a trained journalist.

That’s interesting. By less tests do you mean in that immediate period? I was under the impression that we were always one of the laggards here in WA compared to SA and Vic.

Did Vic have a high early rate that then dropped off?

New Matilda was really the only media outlet which did investigative reporting of the culture of misogyny and sex abuse in the Greens.

  6. I find it somewhat unfortunate that posters such as wombat, LR, Itza, cud, and others, are no longer posting – their expertise in their respective disciplines nearly always instructive. In lieu we have an expert in nearly every area of study – even in jurisprudence. At this time, with what seems to be a second C-19 wave, experts in virology, epidemiology are sorely missed. I doubt that they’re miffed – more: what the…?

  7. No using cumulative figures WA and Victoria were the laggards in April. By Anzac Day 2.5 % of the population in NSW had been tested. In WA and Vic it was closer to 1.5. In both states the new test rates were stable during March and April.Vic had a 1 week blitz in the first week of May which eventually exceeded the NSW per pop rate. There was a significant drop in the Vic testing rate in early June

At the time of the whole Buckingham thing they had to remonstrate with their readers for giving them shit for doing exactly the kind of reporting they said they’d signed up to NM for!

  9. Interesting that the worst countries for COVID-19 are America, Russia, Brazil, and India: all ruled by right wing tough guys and/or strongmen.

China has two big advantages as a manufacturing power, amply displayed in recent months. First, its industrial base is unparallelled in breadth and depth, churning out everything from low-end footwear to high-end biotech. Even as wages have steadily increased, China’s combination of manufacturing clusters, first-class infrastructure and upgraded factories have made it more competitive. In 2005, 26.3% of the value of China’s exports was added abroad; by 2016 that was down to 16.6%, with the share of foreign content falling most sharply in electronics, according to the OECD. In other words, more of the bits and bobs that end up in Chinese gadgets are themselves made in China.

  12. Leigh being very businesslike like with Greg Hunt. All info. Just the facts ma’am. No political questions like, “Who screwed you on vaping, Greg?”

Fair enough, but WHY can’t she be like this with all her guests?

Your undisputed support of BB goes without saying. I’m very happy for you both & cat.

It’s people like yourself is the reason the world is a crazy blue ball of insane people.

    2016 is old news.
China’s mercantilism and monopolistic tendies are inherently self-defeating.
The Trump Trade War and the Virus are changing things.
Manufacturers are moving factories out of China.
Having been burned during the Virus, they are diversifying to multiple sources.
China is not out of the game at all. But it is no longer viewed as a safe bet in terms of sole supply.

  18. boerwar

The article is on 23rd of 2020.

Other articles suggest Manufacturing is still sluggish but increasing.

Anti China rhetoric can be kept back in the IPA and playing into Trump’s hands.

  19. BB what is your opinion of non-smokers taking up vaping?

My opinion is irrelevant. The facts are that very few people do.

The only individuals I know who vape are ex-smokers using vaping to get a nicotine hit without the deadly by-products of combustion.

Nicotine in itself is not the problem. It’s the smoke that causes 99% of the harm. Get rid of the smoke and you have a major public health advantage. Enter vaping.

It is a common mistake to think vaping involves combustion and smoke. It involves neither. The vapour from vaping is more a mist. It is not smoke.

  20. GG:

I’ll ask you this personally – without anyone noting(?), your posts are usually very short, cutting to be sure – but do you think you might be in awe of BB?

PARIS — A Green wave swept through France in local elections on Sunday, seizing major cities such as Strasbourg, Lyon and Marseille for the first time, while Emmanuel Macron had a very bad night.

If only we had an environmental party in this country. I think they would do quite well.

I’d settle for a socialist but i’m not holding my breath waiting. -a.v.

You are confusing my point entirely.

My point was not about the gross quantum of Chinese manufacturing. I have no view about that.

My point was about Chinese manufacturing being off-shored at large rates.

Just to confirm my point: many south-east Asian countries are benefiting directly from Chinese factories being relocated to them.

Vietnam in particular is a major beneficiary.

Japan is also moving to bring back manufacturing plants it had previously off-shored to China.

  24. What IS your problem Mavis? You’re not only bothering me, but bothering other people on what seems to be your favourite subject.

I have never met GG. Never corresponded or talked with him. Haven’t got a clue WHO he is.

Now will you please leave off?

  25. One of the risks for foreign companies investing in China is that there is no rule of law other than the law of Xi.
As Canada is discovering, foreign nationals can be arrested and used as blackmail objects in trade disputes with overseas countries.
Foreign investors have also found that their valuable IP is also terribly vulnerable to theft.

  26. citizen: “Vanstone has a go at those who failed to do anything about Heydon. This opens a potential gulf between people like Abbott/Howard and rightwing/conservative leaning women in the legal arena.”

In my observation, Vanstone has never had any time for Abbott.

Your argument relies on deals which are out of date.

Vietnam, yes the output has increased, but so is China.

    Japan? Not so much…

Like someone else said just before, it could be right wing countries that suffer more.

  28. It was the cruisy, more relaxed thing I was going for as I was reading the blog, none us us should get personal with someone we’ve never met. I done it heaps. I never felt better after. Just saying it.

A rational assessment of the likely economic impact of the virus plus the longevity of the LNP Government suggests that another win by the LNP is unlikely. If the LNP were to win would the ALP finally accept it needs significant change to make it more electable?

Since 1918, Labor has won an election from opposition during a recession just once – in 1983. The odds are that the LNP will win the next election even if – or, perhaps more correctly, because – the economy will be depressed. Australian political culture is remarkably stable, despite the dissatisfaction evinced by voters when they’re asked.

  30. citizen
Vanstone is actually saying a lot more than that. Her sister has been on the Supreme Court of SA for 17 years. She knows exactly who she is accusing.

  31. Zerlo
Sure, Japanese manufacturing was hit by the Virus.
So was manufacturing around the world.
That does not negate my point: factories are being shifted out of China into other countries.
