ReachTEL: 52-48 to Labor

Seven’s latest monthly ReachTEL robo-poll joins Newspoll and Essential Research in ticking slightly to Labor.

The Seven Network reports a ReachTEL automated phone poll conducted yesterday has Labor’s lead at 52-48, up from 51-49 a month ago. More details to follow (although it may take a while).

UPDATE (26/10): Here at last are the full results from the poll, which turns out to have a sample of 3594. On the primary vote, Labor is on 37.5%, the Coalition 40.1%, the Greens 11.5%, and Palmer United 5.1% (a fair bit better than they’ve been doing from other pollsters lately).

Today, is the 32nd anniversary of the day I met hubby.

From the first day we met, I was certain that he was the one with whom I would share my life. I’ve never had cause to doubt that judgement since.

He is my lover, my peer, my partner in life and parenting, my comfort, my mentor and the wisest person I know. I am a much better person than I was in October 1982, and he more than any other thing is the inspiration for my growth. We are not married, but until death do us part.

There will be a celebration this evening and a few tears. I will remind him, though he needs none, that finding him has proved more valuable to me than any personal fortune that might have fallen into my hands in a fantasy. With him, no adversity is too great to bear, and without him, no personal advantage more than banal consolation.]

    How very poetic Fran

Happy anniversary to the two of you – and may there be many more.

Looks like it is levelling out around 52/48 51/49 thereabouts.
    ]

With two polls this week at 53/47 and now this one at 52/48, I think we can confidently say it is higher than 51/49.

  3. Abbott and the painful budget:

[Budget talks ‘painful’ but on track: PM

Mr Abbott told the Liberal Party’s national executive in Canberra the coalition was achieving its aims.

“Compromise by painful compromise the budget is coming back under control,” Mr Abbott said.

“If you get the economic fundamentals right, there are benefits for the Australian people and we can deliver the strong and prosperous economy for the safe and secure Australia.”]

  4. Thanks Darn, Deb, Feeney, Astro, Nicholas and BW. I’m looking forward to a fabulous evening. Deb, 57 years is impressive indeed and doubtless you can understand well enough what I shared.

Grandchildren are indeed a treasure. I’m sure if I get one I’ll be back here sharing the joy.

  5. Player One, you (and Darren Laver) should think harder about the fact that nobody on the Labor/left who is of the slightest consequence agrees with you about the ABC, and that every last person who does is part of the News Corp/IPA axis.

  6. [WA Premier Colin Barnett has defended former transport minister Troy Buswell’s decision to accept a job with a company responsible for building some of the state’s major roads.

Troy Buswell relinquished his Treasury and Transport portfolios in March after crashing his ministerial vehicle into a series of cars while driving home from a wedding.

    He quit politics last month.

It has been revealed he has since been hired on a part-time basis by civil contractor Brierty, which has worked on dozens of state roads such as the Great Northern and Albany Highways.]

You sound well and truly wed in every sense but the documentary one; surely the most joyous partnership of all.

Well done. I hope you have a lovely night.

  8. Dave,

I too have been wondering whether Gough will give Labor one last lift – however, he was a polarising figure so it might serve as a morale boost to the ‘comrades’.

  9. Tony Abbott is a bit of a goose for his remarks regarding the threat to the War Memorial. He’s correct of course but these jihadis seem to be a pretty stupid lot and not strong on original thought. There’s no need to give them ideas. What he should have done was quietly increase securirity at important monuments and institutions, as advised by the AFP and other agencies.

I think it’s a bit like his remarks about the depredations of wild animals at the MH17 crash site. True enough, he was probably repeating what he’d been told in briefings without thinking it through.

    The victorian election maybe.

    Victoria is traditionally strongly Labor.

Would be a great theme to run in a state or federal election pointing out Labors achievements.

If the tories over react, then point out their coup d’etat, which is basically what it was.

But if he does it quietly where will all the glory be…where will all the headlines go…all the photo shots….what would then rub his ego…

  12. Time to go to bed and do some more reading on US submarines in the Pacific War.

Just finished the bit where a 20 year old pharmacist’s mate, with only a 16 week crash course in medical stuff to his name, has done an appendectomy in a submarine which was too far to get the patient back to proper operating conditions.

The patient not only survived the operation, he then survived being tossed out of his bunk and onto the deck during a depth charge attack a few hours later.

  13. BW

I was sent a cache of the world’s most memorable pics today.

One, because of isolation a doctor performing his own appendectimony…..

  14. [Victoria is traditionally strongly Labor.]

“Traditionally” isn’t the right word. Labor’s 2PP in 1972 was 55.4% in NSW and 50.4% in Victoria, and basically unchanged in both states in 1974. Only after 1996 did Labor make a habit of doing better in Victoria than NSW, and it never happened between the Split and 1980. Only once prior to 1982 did Labor ever win a majority in the state parliament.

Hard to believe, but both must have been pretty happy a week or so later when it was obvious that things were going well!

The patient was probably too sick to care, but the pharmacist’s mate must have been worried sick at taking the first cut, but a very brave person to actually attempt it at all.

Some of us are just ahead of our time, William.

  17. [Climate change does not respect borders and we must work together to fight its threats. These are not the words of a tree-hugger, but the US Department of Defense.

A report published on Monday says that extreme weather, rising temperatures, unpredictable rainfall and rising oceans could fuel armed insurgency and heighten the impact of a pandemic, through their effects on political instability, poverty, migration and resource disputes.

It warns that developments like these could undermine fragile governments and challenge stable ones, creating “an avenue for extremist ideologies and conditions that foster terrorism”.

The roadmap, intended to prepare the US military for climate change, reveals that more than 7000 US military installations have already been surveyed for vulnerability. Some sites have even begun to prepare for sea-level rises.]
