Labor’s leadership selection process has concluded with a narrow win for Bill Shorten, whose decisive victory in the caucus vote was enough to outweigh rank-and-file support for Anthony Albanese. As foreshadowed in news reportage over the past two days, Shorten’s caucus support was in the fifties, at 55 votes against 31 for Albanese. The rank-and-file ballot attracted 18,230 votes for Albanese against 12,196 for Shorten. With each accounting for 50% of the total, the final score reads thus:

Vietnam has been crawling crabwise to the west for some time now. Don’t forget their most recent war was with China, not with the US. I hope they are contemplating “doing a Burma” – a limited domestic liberalisation in order to improve relations with the west and attract investment so as the escape China’s clutches. If they do will take their satellites the Lao PDR with them.

Abbott’s government is dying of shame.
Greg Hunt today said that it is bad to put taxes on essential services because it costs jobs and is bad for business.
He was standing next to a man named Tony Abbott who voted to put a 10% tax on every electricity and gas bill.
Labor should oppose the idiotic legislation the Coalition is proposing but instead propose that the GST be removed from energy bills and should remind everyone that Tony Abbott voted for that.

She (fairly narrowly) failed to win Richmond in 2001. She so (I believe) contested the preselection for the NSW Senate in 2007 but the winnable spot available was stitched up by Doug Cameron of course.
She is very good.
