Shorten 52.0, Albanese 48.0

Late news: Bill Shorten to lead Labor after solid caucus vote win cancels out rank-and-file majority for Anthony Albanese.

Labor’s leadership selection process has concluded with a narrow win for Bill Shorten, whose decisive victory in the caucus vote was enough to outweigh rank-and-file support for Anthony Albanese. As foreshadowed in news reportage over the past two days, Shorten’s caucus support was in the fifties, at 55 votes against 31 for Albanese. The rank-and-file ballot attracted 18,230 votes for Albanese against 12,196 for Shorten. With each accounting for 50% of the total, the final score reads thus:

			Caucus Branches	Total
Bill Shorten 63.95% 40.08% 52.02%
Anthony Albanese	36.05% 59.92% 47.98%

[ Now it is famous for priests with a penchant for buggery. Unfortunately academic results have never been its strong suite.]

    Which school was it?

  2. [Incidentally, lovers of the stupidity-of-war ironies would appreciate that Australia is now training the comrades instead of trying to kill them.

    Vietnam War, anyone?]

Vietnam has been crawling crabwise to the west for some time now. Don’t forget their most recent war was with China, not with the US. I hope they are contemplating “doing a Burma” – a limited domestic liberalisation in order to improve relations with the west and attract investment so as the escape China’s clutches. If they do will take their satellites the Lao PDR with them.

[At least it made speeding tickets virtually impossible.]

Me, Gael and mad NZ’er Nigel trashing Europe seems a long while ago.

The RO-RO’s are probably still trying to clean up.

One of Ho Chi Minh’s sayings went wtte – Better to be at a western powers feet for several generations then eat chinese shit for eternity.

Think Paul Ham might have quoted it in his book, Vietnam – the Australian War.

No love lost been VN and China.

Saigon, ie HCM City has been pretty well back to its previous capitalistic and entrepreneural ways for years apparently even though ruled from the North.

Anywway you are being too modest re your acedemic achievements,I remember you and Diogenes talking one time about various letters after each of your names..

  6. Abbott’s government is dying of shame.

Greg Hunt today said that it is bad to put taxes on essential services because it costs jobs and is bad for business.

He was standing next to a man named Tony Abbott who voted to put a 10% tax on every electricity and gas bill.

Labor should oppose the idiotic legislation the Coalition is proposing but instead propose that the GST be removed from energy bills and should remind everyone that Tony Abbott voted for that.

  7. Can we get Jenny McAllister into parliament some how?

She (fairly narrowly) failed to win Richmond in 2001. She so (I believe) contested the preselection for the NSW Senate in 2007 but the winnable spot available was stitched up by Doug Cameron of course.

    She is very good.
