DemosAU had the last in its tranche of quarterly state polls, this time from Queensland, which has the Liberal National Party steady on 34%, Labor up one to 26%, One Nation down three to 21% and the Greens up one to 11%. The LNP’s two-party lead over Labor narrows from 58-42 to 56-44, and David Crisafulli’s lead over Steven Miles as preferred premier narrows from 47-30 to 45-33. Individual leadership ratings, which did not feature last time, have Crisafulli at 42% positive, 28% neutral and 24% negative, and Steven Miles at 30%, 26% and 35%. The poll was conducted August 22 to September 2 from a sample of 1291.

I suspect the polling wont change much until the noose that is the Olympics begins to tighten further.
It’s been reported in the Courier Mail Queensland Labor state MP Meaghan Scanlon who is considered a rising star in the is recontesting her seat of Gaven. This is despite the LNP gerrymandering it to a 3.9% margin in their favour. There was speculation in the media Labor may look for a safer seat for her but its not the case.
Former TV reporter Bianca Stone who was defeated last election as the LNP candidate for Gaven is probably waiting in the wings to stand again. It was reported she got a job as a chief of staff for a state LNP minister after the loss.
Queensland Labor really does need to do a Bracks 1999 style campaign and focus on the regional seats.
Cairns, Townsville, Mackay, Rockhampton, Maryborough, all down the coast. And keep hold of whatever they have left.
I don’t know how the electorate will be in 2 years’ time when the 2028 election is due, but regional Queensland voters may very well be sick of Pauline screeching about how sick and tired she is about everything, so Labor might do well to give them an option other than her and the LNP.
Kirsdale, Cairns may be an exception, but the ALP is toast in regional Queensland for a generation. Their only way forward in the next few terms of government is trying to expand their footprint in the South East outside of Brisbane, but even there the sims are so great it’s going to be a while before anyone outside of Brisbane gives them much of a hearing.

You say “The ALP is toast in regional Queensland for a generation”. How so? Will a regional Queensland voter in the 2036 election still be thinking “Urgh, my life sucks so much so I blame Anna P and Steve Miles for it all!” and vote LNP or One Nation.
In Victoria, things were pretty bleak for Labor after 1992, but somehow they came back 7 years later.
Unfortunately that does seem like it’ll be the case for Tasmanian Labor at the moment.
Unfortunately I think we are stuck with the Christian Soldiers of the LNP for another term, the opposition can’t get traction on anything, and Crisafulli keeps the rabid dogs of the right on a short leash, good on Scanlon for staying put though, I wish her luck.
