  1. Not sure if I’m correct here… I assume the ABC outbid SBS to show Asian Cup, then doesn’t show opening match live FFS !
If ever there was proof that ABC management is 200% incompetent ( endless episodes of QI to boot )

Well sell the bloody thing & let SBS take the place as national broadcaster, they are much more professional & inventive

  2. Oh dear, half watching ABC 24 live coverage of French terrorist event.

Some of the questions of the ABC reporters are atrocious. So ignorant and embarrassing.

Why is our public broadcaster so poor???

Who said the “Virgins” had to be women?

Right. I’ve consistently argued exactly the same thing for several pages of the thread now. I’ve explained to you why you are misrepresenting that argument, yet you repeat the misrepresentation, which shows you either haven’t understood the explanation or a being deliberately obtuse. You apparently think that I don’t understand what I myself have been arguing, and that you know what I meant better than I did.

I’d say the arrogance was breath taking, if it wasn’t obvious that it’s actually ignorance.

How about selling The Big Issue mags ?

And, funnily enough, I’d say the same about you.

You haven’t argued a pea in a pod. As usual, when you’re called on anything, you express surprise that you’ve been misunderstood.

And then argue for pages about what you really meant.

What you actually said in the first place was that Anti-Vaxxers should not be given any airspace. No publicity. Then they wouldn’t have to be argued against. Full Stop. That was what you wanted.

As soon as “free speech” came up, you were backed into a corner and had to argue your way out of it.

You shouldn’t have put yourself there in the first place.

  7. Tony Burke, recently said that:

IS or ISIS is just the same as the IRA, and

The IRA, like ISIS, was trying to establish a “catholic state” (his words).

The fact that these lies are so casualy expressed with little chance of challenge from a corrupt Labor Party, and a corrupt, uninterested or stupid media, is why I find Oz politics so depressing.

Did he say this to you personally? A Google search on “Tony Burke” and “Catholic State” turns up two results, both of which are comments by you on PB.

    Got a link for that?

  10. Kezza

I saw/heard him on Telly last two week. Did not record it, but will look it up.

He was saying it in light of Martin place.

I discovered today He is a former SDA Union official……. Right wing as the SA, I assume

  11. Something is happening in Melbourne?

“@Lisa_Whyte: #melbourne airport locked down due to security reasons, planes on tarmac locked down and people in terminal evacuated @ABCNews24”

  12. I suspect the reason the ABC ended up with the Asian Cup rights is that Foxtel owns them and the ABC were more willing to put up with excessive coverage delay than SBS were. SBS needs people to actually watch to get the ad revenue, whereas the ABC don’t mind as much if the ratings are supressed by the tape delay.

  13. There’s definitely something going on at Melbourne airport, people are tweeting from planes that they’re locked down.

  14. French TV reporting link between kosher supermarket hostage taker as yesterday’s police shooting.

Brothers still held up in printing warehouse.

    Very serious.

Yemen is the link — but these are not poor starving Western bombing victims — make no mistake.

These are murderous thugs who have found a sense of belonging in a worldwide murderous gang.

  15. French TV also saying this appears widely coordinated and other attacks may occur elsewhere in Europe.

US claims it had brothers on “no fly list” and had shared this with French authorities.

  16. Sceptic @ 1702

    Hear bloody hear!!!
Not only on a fricken 2 hour delay but all other ABC platforms have been sprouting the score without any warning making it totally pointless in now watching the game. I rang ABC here in Perth to complain and was told that I could listen to the games live on ABC digital radio.
When I informed the woman I was speaking to that digital radio is not available here in the south-west of WA I was greeted with about 15 seconds of silence then helpfully told I could go to the ABC online and email a complaint. No doubt getting a reply sometime in the future once the tournament is over. Maybe the ABC should stop spending money on broadcasting rights for an event and sport that they have barely ever shown any interest in especially if they can not even show live games and spend more on hiring a couple of competent and unbiased political reporters.

  17. [French TV also saying this appears widely coordinated and other attacks may occur elsewhere in Europe.]

As Abbott would say, avec optimisme: Je suis Europe.

  18. It’s probably a bit harsh to blame the ABC for shelling out for the rights to show the games on tape delay after Foxtel. You can’t expect Aunty to outbid Rupert for live coverage, the Asian Cup isn’t on the anti-siphon list and at least this way people still get to watch it at all without paying for it.

[Yemen is the link — but these are not poor starving Western bombing victims — make no mistake.

    1. When did “we” make that mistake?
    2. Nonsense statement.

What are you actually getting at, Darren?
    Fear? Of what?
Should we stick our noses outdoors tomorrow?
    Are we safe?
Should we shun a Yemeni if we accidentally come across one, especially if they’re not emaciated, and we actually know their nationality?

    What? Are you serious?
You’re just taking the piss, right.

You want us to believe the Yemeni are copycat killers, like they’ve gotten hold of the CIA handbook, or something.

  20. Incident at Melbourne Airport just confirmed by Jeremy Fernandez on ABC24 (who, by the way (rossmcg), was tweeting with the same source as I was using earlier :P)

  21. The Melbourne airport incident is being reporting as a terminal closure due to either a bomb threat or someone stabbing their partner.

    Departures have resumed, though.
