One of the seven seats to survive Labor’s decimation at the 2012 election, the eastern Ipswich seat of Bundamba extends from Dinmore east along the Ipswich Motorway to Goodna and south to Redback Plains and Springfield Lakes. The electorate matches the inner Brisbane conservative stronghold of Indooroopilly for the state’s lowest median age, although this bespeaks a concentration of young familes (one-parent families in particular) rather than young professionals.

At the time of its creation in 1992, Bundamba was so safe for Labor that neither the Nationals nor the Liberals bothered to contest it. It was Labor’s third safest seat going into the 2012 election, when a heavy 19.4% swing reduced it to fifth place with a margin of 1.8%. Its member since 2000 has been Jo-Ann Miller, a Left faction member whose portfolios in opposition have been health and natural resources and mines, together with housing prior to the rearrangement that followed Anthony Lynham’s election in Stafford in July 2014. Miller earlier served as a parliamentary secretary after the 2001 election, before returning to the back bench after the 2006 election saying she wished to devote more time to the electorate.
