The weekly campaign YouGov poll provides no relief for the Coalition, who are down two on the primary vote to 31%, maintaining a descent from 37% in mid-March. Less than half of this has bane gained by Labor, the latest result having them up half a point to 33%. The Greens are up a point to 14%, while One Nation enjoys a remarkable three-and-a-half point fillip to 10.5% — their best result in any poll since the 2022 election. Labor’s lead is out from 53-47 to 53.5-46.5 on two-party preferred, using a formula that allocates them 80% of preferences from the Greens, 33% from One Nation, 59% from independents and 49% from others. Anthony Albanese is down one on approval to 42% and steady on disapproval at 49%, while Peter Dutton is down four on approval to 36% and up four on disapproval to 54%. Albanese’s lead as preferred prime minister is out from 48-38 to 50-35. The poll was conducted Thursday to Tuesday from a sample of 1500. We should be seeing something in the way of MRP polling from YouGov over the weekend.
UPDATE: In response to a commenter’s query, some further context for the One Nation spike. “Independent” is down from 9% to 5% in this poll because respondents must now choose a specifically listed independent from their electorate rather than “an independent” in abstract. Presumably a lot of the 4% who made this category their proxy for “none of the above” are now with One Nation, who are fielding candidates everywhere except the three Australian Capital Territory seats. Trumpet of Patriots is unchanged at 2%, though they are only contesting two-thirds of the seats and will duly have disappeared as an option for a third of the respondents, and “Other” is up from 3% to 4%.
“The silent majority.”
Over there, next to the unicorns. >>>
Thanks William for that explanation. I did edit my post to conclude that the 3 % was somehow coming from the Independent vote, but for the wrong reasoning. This makes it clear now.
True Entropy, but I didn’t try, PP responded to my post to another one of their racist friends.
Huge win.
“ So being Welcomed To Country is grovelling.
You welcome someone to your house, is that grovelling?
Must be in your books.
Just come out about it ScromoII you’re a racist!”
Would you welcome your house mate! We’re already home so no need for a welcome.

The High Court of Australia found that media outlets are liable for defamatory comments posted by third parties on their pages.
This means that website and social media page owners can be held responsible for comments made by users on their platforms, even if they were not aware of the comments or did not intend them to be posted.
I think some moderation of pro-Nazi comments would not go astray on this website.

How would we know what the Dutton supporters actually believe if we did that?
Ah Trent, the good old silent majority! Are they the ones in your racist head? I’m not really seeing them in my travels!

It is not beyond belief. Australian politics has been full of such behaviour in the past decade.
The member for Kiama has historically been highly litigious. However I believe that may soon dissipate.

Ergo: perhaps you mean sentient humans of the Left.

You all desperately need to seek therapy, a grip on history and some basic empathy.
Douglas and Milko, the constitution requires direct elections. From the way it handles vacancies and in a few other points, you can see that its authors presumed that the lower house would be by single member districts and that the upper house will be by multi member districts, but it does not require it (and, as it happened, it took half a century before multi member districts were achieved in the Senate). Although I think your point is not meant to rest on any particular electoral system, just a system of direct elections: and that is certainly entrenched.
As for the history, I definitely need to learn more about politics in the earlier time. I know that there was a fracturing of parties before WWII that I didn’t cover in my earlier comment, but I don’t know what it was like for voters and candidates and politics in general.

That guy reminds me of the ADHD kid at school that used to run around going ‘poo!’ and ‘f*ck!’ all the time. They believe that being outrageous is a cause in and of itself that will benefit them by attracting attention to themselves.

I was wondering today what has become of FUBAR. Has he been banned?
Just a casual reminder that if you agree with actual self-described Nazis and white supremacists about anything more important than white time it is, you need to have a fvcking hard look at yourself.
I believe he popped in last night.
I think someone needs to tell all of us country folk that we’re seriously offending the ‘silent majority’ of people when we have those “Welcome to xxx” signs as you drive in to every country town in Australia. Who knew that when we were trying to be hospitable and welcoming we were actually offending all those snowflakes.
Who is this silent majority and why aren’t they leading the polls?
Bystander @ #765 Friday, April 25th, 2025 – 10:03 pm
Yes, he made an appearance last night. However, I’m assuming he’s now heavily involved in the WA Liberal campaign.
C@t,
That shouldn’t take him long then
Welcome to country ceremonies are not “grovelling”nor are they just an acknowledgement of the country upon which an event is to take place and just a mark of respect for the traditional owners. Welcome to country is also a mark of respect to the guests visiting country and to wish them peace and safety whilst they are on country.
Anyone that is antipathetic to this solemn ceremony is either ignorant or straight out racist – pure and simple.

He did post last night. I wonder if he is not slightly embarrassed by the behavior of the likes of PP, Scromoll, and the new one, Trent, who acts very much like Paul A. If they were representing my side here, I wouldn’t want to show my face either.

When you google mapped the island labor luvvies and I know you did you may of noticed the half dozen locals on the beach picture that pops up it’s ok they were just giving a friendly welcome.
It has been a good week for coalition.

Senate electorate in Australia have always been multi-member electorates covering the whole state. From 1901 to 1917 they were block vote (multi-member FPTP). And from 1919-1946 they were preferential block voting. The proportional representation system introduced at the 1949 election has been a vast improvement on both those systems.
What about Steve ‘tin foil hat’ Davis? Has he been chopped?
No, but I’m pleased that his voluntary absence is relieving me of the need to delete about 40% of his comments.

I take that as a poll on Sharri Markson’s credibility.
Not that I’m normally a betting man but when I saw the wet conditions today I did place 15 dollars on Steele Sidebottom to win BOG today at 13 to 1. So a nice 196 dollar return.
The man of Steele is so clean in the wet.
FUBAR has conceded defeat…blames everything on Trump, as if the LNP has had nothing to do with Trump…as if they actually have policies that are relevant to modern Australia.
That’s good. He should stick with that analysis. It will help keep the Reactionaries out of power for another decade or so.
Can we please have a little respect for the indigenous peoples. Am sure they/us also have very specific views. We/they have been marginalised for way too long. Both Labor/Liberal have marginalised them/us.
And if the Liberal ads for the next 7 days consist of the PM falling off a stage, it tells me that those blokes are now in saving furniture mode. They are no longer interested in winning back Teal seats.
Sportsbet odds in NSW seats – looking dire for the Libs in Robertson, Werriwa, Parramatta and Hunter. Labor are suddenly favourites in Bennelong.
I’m interested in knowing which Lib or Nat-held seats in NSW and QLD have a margin of 5% or less.
A respected day turned into this by the Trents and Pied Pipers.

Well done nath. Now you should go all up on Labor at $1.14 and increase it to $233.
The pendulum for the 2025 election can be found here:

It’s a shame that labor refuses to offer meaningful policy on affordable housing, considering that it’s the number one issue for pretty much everybody under ~35. I understand it to an extent because older voters are very ‘fuck you, I got mine’ about it, but TikTok and Twitter and whatever else the news likes to blame voter polarization on aren’t the only reason young people are moving away from the majors, and they won’t be young forever.
Looking at William’s guide there are about 25 Lib- or Nat-held seats on margins of 5% or less that would be vulnerable to Labor.
There are some more that would be vulnerable to Teals.
So maybe the Reactionaries could lose half their current members. The swing is on.
How pleasing that would be.
Another day of politicians posturing that we’re still a free country. We are a nanny state, we are a surveillance state, we are a police state, we are not a free state. The freedom the Diggers fought for has already been surrendered.
Maybe more like 20 seats plus a few Green and Teal seats. 25 in 25…one can hope!
People being so triggered by WtCs being given 2 mins at events is sad, funny and deeply telling.
If you take WtCs as offensive – well done for never actually having listened to one.

Liberal Party should hold every seat they won in 2019. Only a matter of how many they pick up.
6 on one side and 4 on the other is hardly some massive majority.

Yes, it is a shame.
Unfortunately it’s a game of winners & losers. Homeless & renters are currently losers.
But if you could wave a wand and house all the homeless then you would remove the latent demand for rental properties. Within a week that would cause a drop in rents.
This would rattle investors who may start selling off their properties.
This would cause property prices to fall, causing an increase in properties for sale, exacerbating the collapse of prices.
The magician with the wand would be blamed.
Now replace that magician with a government.
Now you can see why they refuse to actually solve the problem.

Yes, you stick with that view.
Bewildering as it might be for you, the Lib PV is collapsing. Votes are going in every direction: to the Teal, to PHON, to Labor, to the Greens. Voters are running from Dutton.
The names Donald Trump and Peter Dutton are printed alongside that of every Lib candidate. Dutton is the most heavily distrusted LOTO in Australian political history. Trump is feared by voters everywhere. These two are campaigning for the elimination of the Liberal Party. They will largely succeed.
Just watch those Lib-held seats tumble. I think the Nationals will likely provide the LOTO in the new Parliament.
