A garden variety federal poll from YouGov, as distinct from its massive MRP endeavour last week, finds both major parties down on the primary vote since the last such poll a fortnight ago: Labor by one to 30% and the Coalition by two to 35%, with the Greens and One Nation steady at 13% and 7% respectively, Trumpet of Patriots up from 1% to 2%, and independents up two to 10%. Labor has recovered a 51-49 lead it lost with a return to 50-50 at the last poll, based on a respondent-allocated preferences split that makes use of the voluminous data from the MRP polling.
The poll adds to the marked downward trajectory of Peter Dutton’s recent personal ratings, his approval down four to 38% and disapproval up six to 53%. Anthony Albanese is up three to 44% and steady on 50%. There is nonetheless only a modest change on preferred prime minister, with Albanese’s lead out from 45-40 to 45-38. The poll was conducted Friday to Thursday from a sample of 1622.

Not every person who voted for Trump is a MAGA person. There’s a percentage who were dissatisfied with inflation and thought the country was going in the wrong direction under Biden (and wasn’t convinced by Harris) and aren’t politically engaged or have enough survivor bias from the first Trump term to think him an acceptable enough alternative to get the country “back on track” (not to mention the sane-washing information filter they were viewing him through.)
Trump’s voters aren’t a single homogenous monolith. There are the edges of people who aren’t in the cult and are already regretting their vote. Do they deserve a medal for realising their error? No. But those people are needed onside (as well as those who chose specifically to stay at home in 2024) to defeat Trumpism.

Make sure the polls you provide cover the period since the ceasefire and the deaths of another 1,000 souls, who Netanyahu’s supporters feel are expendable.
That would include the 15 medics slaughtered when going to the aid of other victims of the IDF. And their clumsy coverup, burying the medics and their ambulances.
I’m prepared to be skeptical of the claims that the medics were bound and shot. I’m not able to process the fact that Israeli soldiers would have committed such an obvious war crime.
“Following orders” to shell the medics and hundreds of civilians in their homes is another matter for which there is ample evidence.

Dutton and his band, The Reactionaries, are trying to get thru the election playing covers of Donald Trump. Trouble for Dutton is he’s tone deaf, has no sense of timing, can’t sing, has forgotten his lyrics and has booked himself into the wrong country. His tour is flopping very badly. It appears a poster on this site has been banned for raising that the Liberal Party conscripted 20 year old Australians and sent them to their deaths in Vietnam
This same poster supported the positions he put on this site by referencing data from sources such as the RBA, calling out Liberal Party propaganda including that polling is an influencer – now confirmed by the revelations re Freshwater being a Liberal Party polling company including promoting the gas industry
Then there is the article at the ABC upon the death of Petro Georgiou, the last of the “small l” Liberals
Across a raft of matters (in fact all) the contributions of this now banned poster are confirmed
The banning is no doubt a relief to the Liberal promoters of rubbish noting their response was to demean and insult but not banned
And it raises question as to the bias of the moderator of this site

Mr Modi got a great carve out and he’s got nothing to worry about.
Did you see the tariffs imposed on Bangladesh, Sri Lanka & Vietnam? Trump will probably close down the Bangladesh economy with what he did. What is it – a 37% manufacturing tariff.
Modi’s visit to the White House in Feb paid mega dividends.
Trump’s not going to mess around with India. India is the worlds 5th largest economy, soon to be the worlds 4th largest economy. PM Modi has nothing to worry about. A great PM.

Guy Rundle, Australia’s most incisive political writer, has Labor absolutely pegged. This is from his latest newsletter:
“Only the marvellous Nicole Bouie (subs – check name, oh thas me arggghh no time) , teal-running in Bradfield, leavened things, telling a female hairdresser who’d just washed her hair ‘that was great and I didn’t even have to have sex with you!’, such a Gen X, share house, lesbian-until- graduation gag you could practically hear the Indigo Girls in the background. Great girl gonzo. Bouie has said she’ll try to do better. More better jokes we hope.
That Labor’s campaign would be tedious, self-satisfied, unresponsive to clamouring demands for action on housing, health, and much more, was always on the cards. No teal-equivalent has emerged on the Labor side, to light a fire under them in heartland seats. Without that, our individual seat preferential system has done what it was intended to do: round up strays and consolidate the major party vote. Even first past the post would give more hope of upset in such seats.
Without that challenge, Labor can use the election to extend its project of having no dynamic relation to a social base whatsoever. Throughout the suburbs and the regions it is running on grudging support, using powerless dissatisfaction of its voters, as a sort of perverse energy to groove on. It doesn’t have much else. Over the last three years, it has done many small things which have improved people’s lives, it has kept the Libs out, but it has utterly failed to grapple with the challenges of the era, that even the most modest social democratic party might attempt, and pursued a supine foreign policy. The latter has run aground with the arrival of Trump. The domestic lassitude became visible in Estimates, when Katy Gallagher tried to defend the benighted Housing Australia Future Fund, by claiming a hundred or so houses it had purchased as new construction. Pathetic, but no-one was paying attention, anyway. No-one except Labor hacks ever believed in it in the first place.”
