Moving on from Queensland, up to a point, three items of polling to relate:
• The weekly Roy Morgan poll has Labor’s two-party lead in from 52-48 to 50.5-49.5, from primary votes of Labor 30% (down two), Coalition 37.5% (up one), Greens 14% (up half) and One Nation 5.5% (steady). Based on 2022 election flows, Labor leads 51.5-48.5, in from 53-47. The poll was conducted Monday to Sunday from a sample of 1687.
• Roy Morgan also has a result on republicanism that points to the brittleness of the support for the concept that polls generally record when the issue is out of the limelight. In the wake of the royal visit, a forced-response SMS poll of 1312 respondents conducted last Tuesday and Wednesday broke 57-43 in favour of retaining the monarchy.
• RedBridge Group has a timely result of federal voting intention from Queensland (hat tip to comments regular Nadia88) that has Labor on 28%, compared with 27.4% at the 2022; the Coalition at 41%, compared with 39.6%; the Greens at 13%, compared with 12.9%; and One Nation at 10%, compared with 7.5%. The poll was conducted several weeks ago, from October 4 to 16, from a substantial sample of 2315, and the full release contains detailed demographic breakdowns. It also finds Anthony Albanese on 34% approval and 53% disapproval; Peter Dutton on 39% and 42%; Steven Miles on 35% and 35%; and David Crisafulli on 40% and 31%.
• If you’re a Crikey subscriber, you can read my review of the Queensland election wash-up.
As previously noted, the average voter wants his/her representatives to be living in caves. It’s not fair, but that’s life. And Albanese, for a politician who has managed to get all the way to the top, seems inexplicably oblivious to this fact.
As also noted, if Albanese really did have a hotline to the CEO of a company he was responsible for regulating to get free upgrades on demand, this is a serious charge and the journalist should put up or shut up. Unless I’ve missed something, neither of those things has happened.
So first the LNP aligned spin merchants wanted us to believe that Albo would ring Joyce for upgrades. Now that this story is discredited. We are now being told that Andrew Parker was one in charge of upgrading Albo. That they just upgraded him automatically, I assume. Considering they spent most of the week trying to sell a totally different story. To what extent should we believe this story? The other thing they don’t tell us, was this pretty standard for LNP ministers too and did Andrew Parker do it for them too? Though does it really matter what person did it at Qantas, if it was being done for most ministers anyway?

You think Sharri Markson faked the photo? You could be right, I guess – it is Sky News.

The claims are over Albo asking for upgrades. The fact that Albo attended someones housewarming party in a warehouse. Doesn’t prove anything as far as those claims are concerned.
The plaque reads: “officially opened by the Hon Gladys Berejiklian MLA Premier of NSW” and “ The Hon Anthony Albanese MP Leader of the Federal Opposition”.
==================================================
I wonder why the local Federal member didn’t attend instead of the opposition leader. I gather Annandale is in Grayndler. Do we know who that is?
Auditors have criticised the Australian Passport Office over procurement contracts, saying transparency and ethics standards were not upheld.
Eighteen current and former Department of Foreign Affairs (DFAT) officials and contractors are now under investigation for potential misconduct.
The office questioned why officials spent more than $30,000 making two trips to the North Queensland resort town of Port Douglas in 2022 to scope out its suitability for a major conference — before then deciding to move the event to Canberra.
The ANAO said taxpayers then had to fork out more than $104,000 in “cancellation fees and a non-refundable deposit paid to a resort in Port Douglas” because of the shift.

The Greens are inexplicably quiet here. Normally so noisy.
Perhaps the Greens have been distracted by losing two seats in the ACT, losing one seat in Qld, the threat of being sued by one of their own senators in Western Australia. and the resignation of their deputy leader in Victoria.
Not to worry. The Mouth Almighty has already announced that they are sticking with their plans to block 40,000 for members of the service industries. And that is still proud that he got on the back of a truck with the CFMEU, Bikies & Co.
It was a joke plaque.
They’re all mates.
Might work out alright for the Teals if the swinging women’s vote parks itself there, but it’s over for Labor under Albo.

Aston is a former LNP staffer and current member though. Can you point out though where Aston specifically says Albo would call Joyce over getting upgrades. From the quotes i’ve seen posted on here. Aston wrote; that Albo would liaise with Joyce over his travel (quoting an unnamed source). I don’t think Aston made the specific accusation over asking for upgrades. I think Dutton was the one that brought up that specific part of the accusation.

Haven’t seen the Eungella Valley in 60 years, unforgettable sight, environmental vndalism doesn’t matter when the Labor Party does it, apparently.

We visited Eungella NP in 1988. There were platypus in the river. And it was an attractive area, as all National Parks are.
Would this NP have been effected?
The local Mackay conservation group didn’t want it from reports.
‘Local conservationists, including the influential Mackay Conservation Group, have also expressed concern about the possible impact of the scheme on the environment.’
Even if Labor and The Greens did. Good nit going ahead

He might be the Marrickville man-of-the people who was raised by a single mother in public housing but as a NSW Labor MP said in 2021, seeing Mr Albanese at an A-list event was “about as surprising as running into Deidre Chambers” while another said it was well-known “the Left enjoy the freebies most.”
“He’s institutionalised and has worked out how to extract every bit of free s**t,” one of his colleagues complained this week.

Institutionalised – I can see the similarity between Albo and poor old Brooks Hatlen in Shawshank Redemption.
He just hasn’t known anything different. Get him outside Politics and he would be totally lost out in the real world.

More irrelevant nonsense from BW. He is a master of spin.
Just like the Australian Labor Party. And their state associates.
China has nothing to do with the Pioneer Valley pumped hydro scheme.
The Queensland Labor government have given the thumbs up to much native forest landclearing, maybe one of the biggest offenders in Australia.
Especially with the support for the Adani coal mine in 2019, more native forest clearing here and the unlimited use of water from precious wetlands nearby.
Reducing global warming gases was obviously not Queensland Labor ( or the Albanese Labor) government’s plan as approval of fossil fuel projects and support for clear felling of native forests has continued at great speed.
Environmental vandals. Like most state governments too. Labor is not sincere, lies about reducing fossil fuel emissions.
As long as they receive donations from the multinational fossil fuel companies to be reelected they care nothing for any environmental damage they cause.
Another identical policy position to the Liberals and Nationals.

@FUBAR – ““doing a Barnaby” as in falling in love and starting a new family? Shocking thing to do.”
If you guys still don’t get why it’s dodgy for the boss in an office to have a secret relationship with someone who works for them and owes their job and their salary to that boss, you’re not getting back into office for very long at any level in this century.
Joyce broke the ministerial code of conduct for his secret lover and made dodgy employment moves because of the relationship (although this is Barnaby “move a government department into my personal electorate so I can say I’m making jobs there” Joyce, for whom arranging a gig for one person is a relatively small breach).
It’s nice that in Barnaby’s case, he and his lover have ended up together (though less nice for his ex wife who he was cheating on while “falling in love”) and there seems to be no coercion. That’s about the only saving grace.
We’re yet to know much about the Hibbins case but he doesn’t seem to be splitting with his wife (for better or worse. Yet, anyway).
I see that Xibot Irene is back with another slag. Just loves the comrades. Can do no wRONg.

” Haven’t seen the Eungella Valley in 60 years, unforgettable sight, environmental vndalism doesn’t matter when the Labor Party does it, apparently.”
Funny how Right-wingers only ever express concern over the environment when renewable energy is involved. If a new open-cut coal mine were proposed for Eungell, you’d be quoting the Courier Mail saying how it would create 300,000 jobs and how the Australian economy would collapse if it didn’t go ahead.
Fubar…
Wrong….Puritanism is a weakness of the right….along with rank hypocrisy.
I doubt the burning of the Salem Witches was carried out by Left Wing Radicals.
As the Liberal Party is increasingly infested with End of Days Christians, who knows what is on the cards for the future?
These same types of people actually think Trump is a creature of the Deity and forgive him of his sins as he is supposedly going to rid the US of the Anti-Christ who goes under the name of Harris. Members of the WA Liberal Party, as I understand it, have the same views.
What are you doing to work on bringing the Liberal party back to some reasonable centre position in the political spectrum or have you too gone over to the red-neck Right of the Liberals? Surely not!
And of course the Eungella pumped hydro project would kill whales too…
And birds would get confused and fly into the dam…
Guarantee Aston hasn’t written/published a book based on a single source. Again, veracity IDK, but it isn’t a single source. As has been said before the book would’ve been ok’d by legal for defo. Like him or not, Aston isn’t some no name hack – effectively used his rear window column holding corporate elites accountable.
Beyond that the comments here are a laugh. You all are accusing each others ‘team’ of the same corruption as each other, while defending your own’s as unimportant.
All corruption is a serious issue regardless of party. All gifts create the perception of corruption whether actual or not (yes bw, greens too). Any politician accepting gifts from corporates is directly responsible for eroding trust in Australian democracy.
Also bw, labors environmental cred is trash. Approving mining, logging, ff projects that are directly putting already endangered species on the brink, expanding fossil fuel exports which are out of scope for our Paris climate commitments, and faking our emissions reductions with land clearing and soil magic frauds. Bigger investment in renewables is great, but entirely undone by their industry portfolio.

1. Labor is keeping its election promises with respect to fossil fuel approvals and exports. The Party that promised to destroy the coal, gas, oil and uranium industries got 13% of the vote.
2. The Greens would close all Australian mining if they could.
3. The Greens would close all Australian logging if they could. One of the reasons that renting in Australia is that housing input costs in terms of timber is around three times as expensive as Australian timber used to be. And don’t bother telling me that imported timber is harvested to the best Greens standards.
4. The Extreme Greens are blocking comprehensive biodiversity conservation and protection as we speak.
5. Labor is delivering the highest ever renewables investment.
6. Labor is investing heavily in renewables infrastructure. First ever.
7. Labor has put in place a vehicle emissions framework. First ever.
As for blaming Labor for the grand combination of human activities that is delivering the Global Anthropocene Extinction Event, give me a break.
We have a Greens/Labor Government in the ACT and there is a constant reduction in the range of native species within the ACT. Environmental weeds, a major driver of extinctions, are out of control. Ferals, ditto, are out of control. Local extinctions are an ongoing feature
