There being nothing else on in the world of polling this week, the weekly Roy Morgan gets a rare guernsey. After a tied result last time, Labor recovers a two-party preferred lead of 51-49, despite equalling their worst primary vote result for the term, down one-and-a-half to 30%. The Coalition is also down half a point, to 37.5%, with Labor’s two-party result benefiting from a one-and-a-half point rise in the Greens to 15.5%, their equal best result for the term, and a one point drop for One Nation to 3.5%. The poll was conducted last Monday to Sunday from a sample of 1677.
Morgan: 51-49 to Labor (open thread)
The weekly Roy Morgan brings Labor slightly good news on two-party preferred, but bad news on the primary vote.
Mavis, I thought the latest iteration of Nath was a lot more enjoyable than the earlier ones.
I’m not sure why, but he kept pushing on the day he was banished.
I’d also have no problem with his return but I’m pretty sure William is not for turning on this occasion.

If Channel 10 defends its case, which was the truth defence. It will mean Higgins case is proven. To the balance of probability level at least. So we get a ruling on that next week.
Though Morrison has already apologised for what happened under his LNP Government: “I’m sorry to Ms Higgins for the terrible things that took place here. And the place that should have been a place of safety and contribution turned out to be a nightmare.”

I would suggest that the majority of people don’t understand policies and have very little interest in either acknowledging nor understanding policies.
The Liberals are well aware of this and have ensured the major media outlets are maintained to take advantage of the majority of people and their lack of interest in policy.
The Liberals have actively curtailed the freedoms once provided by the ABC.
Revisiting the nuclear debate is currently the most notable example of the Liberals using the media to radically alter the mindset of disinterested voters.
For the Liberals to have maintained the vote to the extent in which they have after the deceit, nepotism, fraud, lying and misinformation of the last ten years is “a feather in the cap” of the media ownership and their employees’ willingness to go to extraordinary lengths to achieve what they believe is fame and fortune.
The financial incompetence of the liberals together with their blatantly biased resources distribution, their favouritism assisting the better off and their obvious disregard for a acceptable level of political integrity should see them banished for an eon.
The Liberals are at the mercy of the political disinterest of the voters and the rampant media monster.
And perhaps in one of the most fortunate countries in the world (if you’re not indigenous) the Liberal’s policy void, its “brass neck” political representatives and their comfort blanket from the media, the Liberals are able to maintain a voter block at odds with their past exploits, their on-going reality melees and their plethora of policy vacuum.
Thankfully the Liberals have been exiled from government in most domains.

Now, this would be something that would totally blow away one of my big criticisms of this government – a big foreign policy decision based on what is right, truly independent of our morally flawed U.S. liege.

P1 wants to play to our strengths: coal exports to China to make solar panels to flog to Australia with all the margins going to China so that Chinese people can use ICE propulsion to come to Australia to play in greenwasher eco resorts.

Entropy.
Pop Pharmacology notes: Prior to the 1960s the “Mickey Finns” were chloral hydrate & barbituates These days the sedatives used (besides alcohol) are benzodiazepines (benzos) which are hypnotics (ie cause sleep) & cause retrograde amnesia (memory loss). The classic date rape drug is flunitrazepam (AKA Rohypnol), a benzo with rapid onset (8 hrs) – but is S8 & difficult to get. Diazepam (Valium) is slower onset (~60 m) & long acting (24 h). Temazepam (rapid onset 2hours. Zolpidem (Ambien) is not a benzo but is similar to temazepam. I suspect temazepam or zolpidem in the “special” malt. Fucking Sassenach scum.
While i doubt the Labor government will engage in the policy as outlined by Rainmen, I can certainly hope I am wrong.

Good luck with that, Champ.
Thats sort of the point though Dandy; unless Australia does have some advantage in production (ie overall costs) or the technology is indeed better by a metric large enough to make a higher cost of purchase more worth while, why would someone purchase Australian panels over anyone elses. And while investing in tech is certainly the right start, it doesnt guarantee a timely breakthrough (look at the holy grail of power production that is fushion for that example)
They are certainly not unrecyclable, and the materials in them are growing in value all the time.

As we know cheaper can be false economy too. If a product cost 40% more but last twice as long. That product is cheaper in the long run for say a solar farm.

Indeed. And some people want to spend time arguing about who can make the world’s most ideologically pure solar panels.
It makes me sick how some people still can’t – or won’t – see what’s important, and instead sow doubt, distort, deflect, delay and deny.
We should be better than that by now.

Thanks, so while no evidence any drugs actually used. For most of the standard ones it would have needed to be administrated in the office. As she was awake when entering parliament and probably a good 20-30 minutes since being at night club at that point of time. As they called an uber after they were outside the night club i recall. So probably waited there awhile too. On your list it appears valium is only one that could have been slipped in a drink at the night club and had its effect when in the office. As it is slower to act. We know Bruce had access to cocaine so he possibly could easily access other things from his dealer. As Higgins never got drugged tested, the only way we can know now is if someone who sold it to him comes forward. Which is very unlikely to happen.

gympie,
Fair question. The only large-scale plant in Australia I know of is Lotus in Melbourne.
Several other companies are trying to import machinery from Europe to pre-empt changes in regulation coming down the line. These changes are effectively the PV panel equivalent of a container deposit scheme, but it will be more like $20 a recovered panel.
There is a substantial trial being established in SEQ at the moment. I’m on an advisory panel (pun intended).
In every case, it’s collection logistics that are the real pita.

Rhwombat is the expert here. I’m just summarising, hopefully i followed correctly?. It was Linda Reynolds or her chief of staff that originally speculated drugs could be involved and told the AFP officer that. What made them believe that i’m unsure?. Agreed. Here are a few Chinese solar panel manufacturers. I’d be pretty sure that they vary somewhat in size, from quite small to ginormous. Lordbain’s idea that somehow Australia would need to replace the entire Chinese industry is quite obviously inane. ie Thick, as in really stupid.
yabba, Boerwar was the one arguing that Australia could compete and potentially replace the Chinese production base. I was pointing out how absurd that is. Also note how actual reasonable plans (establishing energy security, increasing productivity and encouraging tech RandD) were plans I kept supporting.

When the EU and Nth America bring in carbon tariffs, Aussie solar panels made with a goodly proportion of renewable energy at each step in the supply chain will be looking like really good value.
Dandy Murray @ #1847 Tuesday, April 9th, 2024 – 9:54 pm
And, of course, we will need lots of solar panels to achieve that.
So … all we need to do to become a Renewable Energy Superpower is find a quick and cheap source of solar panels in large quantities 🙂

While i like idea of Australia having solar panel production capabilities. I hope we also can do a bit with batteries too. What is your thoughts on vanadium flow batteries (electric grid batteries). I see there is a real big one in China now (Dalian). There are some good vanadium deposits in Queensland too.
Again, another good point Dandy. However, there is also the possibility that the US does not go that path (cough Trump cough), and that China, which while increasing short term emissions is also increasing its renewable energy infrastructure, will still be able to play with markets with a carbon tariff cost of entry.
