Newspoll: 56-44 to Labor (open thread)

Newspoll has Labor’s two-party lead returning to a height it last enjoyed in early September, although there is little movement on the primary vote.

The Australian reports the latest Newspoll has Labor’s two-party lead widening from 55-45 to 56-44, although Labor and the Coalition are unchanged on the primary vote at 38% and 33% respectively, with the Greens up one to 11% and One Nation down one to 7%. Both leaders’ personal ratings have softened, though from a substantially higher base in the case of Anthony Albanese, who is down three on approval to 53% and up two on disapproval to 37%, while Peter Dutton is down two to 33% and up four to 52%. Albanese’s lead as preferred prime minister narrows from 58-26 to 54-28. The poll was conducted Wednesday to Saturday from a sample of 1514.

Albo – looks like the perks are going to his head , going to the Sandilands nuptials is dum. A PM going to a wedding where known crims are in attendance?

    ===============

Now I know for sure Lars is worried about the impact of the truth upon Russia’s prospects of bamboozling the inattentive with their deceitful narratives! 🙂

ISW, Deep State and the UK MoD have all reported Ukrainian encampments along the left bank of the Dnipro these past few days. Prominent YouTubers like Denys Davydov and Jake Broe have presented further reports of this. So, no credibility for the apparently very RU-friendly (from his Twitter feed) Def Mon.

    Better luck next war, Lars.

  5. Macarthur you really do yourself, and whatever cause you think you are assisting, a great disservice with the constant purity tests. It also does not help that when either someone posts a slight criticism, or observation about your posts that is anything other than total embrace of your summaries of events, that your instant retort is that they are somehow an apologist for Russian aggression. Enough Already.

It has been observed by many that your fervour is wasted on this Board. I struggle to think of anyone your postings have caused to change their mind (with pretty much all posters and I think it can be safely assumed readers are already supportive of Ukraine in its fight and defence of its people and freedom) or inspired them to take up arms in support of the cause (a decision you have avowedly declined to take yourself).

  6. Enough Already

Critics of NATO from the Left/Russia cannot name one single country which was dragooned into the alliance against its will.

Yes indeed. In fact, countries are striving to get into NATO – not trying to get out. There is no modern Naxos or Thasos rebelling against “America’s Athens”.

There is disgruntlement and bitterness from the Putinistas of the Far Left that Russia’s unprovoked aggression against Ukraine has not led to a collapse of NATO. Nor the Western alliance more broadly.

Maybe you Russian flunkeys will get what you want one day – but not any time soon.

  7. EA

Give up on Lars. Leave him posting alone in Mum’s basement or Menzies House or wherever he is.

    Mavis

Sorry to hear about your relatives loss. I trust their passing was not too unexpected?

  8. Boerwar
“I’m totally with you there Boerwar. In any society that claims to be based on equality for all, that’s the only way it can be. Anything less just makes a mockery of the whole concept.”

Agreed on Lidia Thorpe. If critiques of racism and sexism cannot be applied equally to all persons who exhibit the behaviour, the concepts lose all meaning.

  9. So 61% do NOT think fault for the border conflict is the exclusive fault of Russia

For every action there is a reaction

The analysis of this polling by a serial contributor to this site is akin to why Australia is not now a Republic

Thanks for your commiserations even though at 89 & 79 respectively, it’s always hard to lose distant loved ones.

“So 61% do NOT think fault for the border conflict is the exclusive fault of Russia”
    ================

HWGA, yes, that’s only 61% of the Russian diaspora in Germany. Moscow can’t even persuade its own diaspora of the righteousness of its cause – at least, once those Russians have escaped the Kremlin’s clutches.

  13. So Twitter is a bit of an echo chamber but it’s generally fairly pro-Labor, at the moment though it is pretty scathing of Albanese. And the footy stadium and Coles marketing man photo ops are just kind of cementing the sense this government has more than a bit of a tin ear and is not a whole lot less shallow than the previous one. The honeymoon looks to be over. They need for both moral and political reasons to throw more than a few bones to the poor preferably in the next budget or at least sometime this term. It’s not a good look when the teals appear to be to the left of Labor.

  14. Ignore the naysayers EA. Keep posting about a Ukraine as much as you want. The quality of this blog would be greatly increased if some posters would limit themselves to 6 posts or less a day on certain topics. But since they’re not going to I see no reason why you should be the only one with an artificial limit.

Yes indeed, Aaron. My wife’s family all come from Ukraine (ie, parents, aunts, uncles and 3 out of 4 grandparents), plus two other friends of mine from back in my uni days. Many of my in-laws are quite anxious and/or depressed about the events of the past 14 months.

The building stadium in tough times is not a good look. But to make the map totally red, perhaps Albanese is onto something?

  17. Boerwar: calling you a white c—nt and saying they want you to die is not racist. It is not possible for an oppressed minority indigenous group to be racist against their colonial oppressors. They actually truely want you to want f—k off and die. Go back to where you came from and stop killing our wombats. Also, your attitude towards unfortunate people with drug conditions is appalling.

  18. Mavis maybe he is onto something and it’s only the lefties bleating that he assumes he can afford to lose, but I sense a lot of people more generally might see it as weak leadership and going back on what he has said in the past in relation to Jobseeker and his log cabin story. It’s hard to build broader support when you’re losing people’s respect.

“One for the road; perhaps not lest I might offend dear EA.”

Mavis, may I infer from this you were not exactly about to offer me the same words of encouragement you offered to the avowedly anti-Ukrainian alfred venison before? No exhortation to ‘stick to my guns’? 😉

I verily think that Albanese should drop Abe’s log cabin narrative. I further think he’s dented his credibility by kindly accepting the invitation to shock jock Sandilands’ nuptials. Whitlam, for instance, would be shocked, even though he created Edna a dame.

  21. Mavis, do you think they’ll serve Lobsters at the nuptial feast?

If so, Matthew Guy will be sure to be in attendance.

  25. The Grand Annual – there’s another event on the calendar that should disappear from our fine state, like Duck Hunting…

  26. Viewed from afar it seems some elements of the Victorian media think Dan is a cross between Al Capone and Richard Nixon.
And all they seem to have are questions about a traffic accident way back.
I’m surprised he is as restrained as he is.
If it was me I’d be digging into the background of those asking the questions. And those telling them to ask the questions.
    But I’m not nice.

  27. The Victorian press seem t be sulking that we don’t take their screaming seriously.

With black gangs they sullied their reputation, with step gate they burnt it. With car gate they are spreading the ashes.

Mavis, Mavis, Mavis. What is to be done with this?

First, this war is not a conflict which has been mutually chosen by two foes equally weighty in both military strength and valid casus belli. A much larger and stronger power has unilaterally chosen to conquer its smaller neighbour with absolutely no grounds in international law. Conversely, that smaller power has had no choice but to either resist with force or submit to hostile conquest. For this reason, I reject your premise that this is a conflict in which there can be an equally valid weight of opinion on both sides.

Secondly, personal relationships with people on one side of this conflict only invalidate my views if you also think the views of those actual Ukrainians on whom I have based mine are also too ‘subjective’ to be permitted in a discussion here. In which case, would you also invalidate the testimony of Chinese refugees who came here post-Tiananmen, or of relatives of Holocaust victims?

    Quadipuddick, the equivalent of which?

  30. The death toll from Russia’s cruel and cynical missile strikes against Ukrainian civilians today has risen further:

“The death toll from an overnight Russian missile strike on the city of Uman, in central Ukraine, has risen to 14.

In an update, the Ministry of Internal Affairs said:

Uman: the bodies of two more people have just been removed from the rubble. As of now, 14 people were killed in a strike on an apartment block.

The 14 people killed in Uman include two 10-year-old children. With two people killed in Dnipro, the overall death toll has risen to 16.”

    https://www.theguardian.com/world/live/2023/apr/28/russia-ukraine-war-live-air-raid-sirens-sound-in-kyiv-and-across-ukraine

But, you know, some here say we gotta give ‘the other side’ some air time too, so maybe I should have kept quiet about those extra innocent civilians killed in their beds by the Russian military.

  31. All I can see is that Mavis has been omnipresent with their copious unwarranted advice, tonight. 😐

Enough Already has simply been keeping us informed about a war the Putinistas would rather we forgot about.

Ignore the naysayers EA. Keep posting about a Ukraine as much as you want. Bravo! +1

  33. C@tmomma, I wonder at the urgency with which some posters want to drive off this site posts about one particular topic among the plethora of ‘non-Auspol’ topics frequently discussed on this site – Russia’s war of conquest against Ukraine. Anyone who thinks the conduct and outcome of this war is of no relevance to ‘peace, order and good government’ in this country (or any other) is either seriously deluded or insidiously disingenuous, IMHO.

  34. I tend to ignore Twitter because it is a mob mentality over there, and not really reflective of the wider electorate. If you believe the Twitterati, Albanese is worse than Morrison because he won’t cancel the stage 3 tax cuts, cancel Aukus, increase the rate of Jobseeker by huge amounts, bring back mask wearing for covid and decline an invitation to Kyle Sandiland’s wedding.
Alas this blog is full of similar garbage from Rex and Player1.

  35. You know, maybe there has been a lamentable dearth of Russian voices on this site. Let’s hear some right now:

“The morning after a deadly attack that claimed the lives of at least 16 civilians in Ukraine – including a three-year-old child –, Russia’s Defense Ministry posted a picture of a missile launch with the quote, “Right on target.” …

… Meanwhile, on Telegram channels, self-proclaimed “Z-patriots” – Russians who passionately support the war against Ukraine – were celebrating the missile attack and the resulting deaths.

Here are some of the quotes that were shared:

“We didn’t cause enough destruction. We should have hit the foundation.”

“The Khokhlota (an insulting term for Ukrainians) must suffer.”

“Throw out your air defenses, Ukrainians.”

“The new air defense systems from Western partners couldn’t even shoot down a Russian missile.”

    https://www.kyivpost.com/post/16377

And if you think this is unrepresentative of the views of a vast swathe of Russians in their heartland, check out practically any episode of Jake Broe’s excellent YouTube channel, where he presents many examples of the unrelenting stream of foul genocide-mongering coming out of RT, in all its foul repulsiveness. Then, ponder what it says about Russians that so many watch this ghastly display every night on their television sets, and 83% of them approve of Putin’s Presidency, effectively endorsing these grim intentions towards the people of Ukraine (https://www.statista.com/statistics/896181/putin-approval-rating-russia/)

Fellow Bludgers, welcome to the sweet display of Russkiy Mir.

EDIT: I have to wonder how many Russians cheered at the sight of the Twin Towers coming down on 11/09/2001, what with that comment above on ‘should have hit the foundation’.

  37. Only half an hour since the last update on the pre-dawn Russian terrorist strike against civilians asleep in their beds in Uman, Ukraine, the death tally has risen again:

“As of 2:47 p.m. local time, 17 people are known to be killed in Russia’s April 28 missile strike on Uman, Cherkasy Oblast, reported Governor Ihor Taburets.

Earlier, Ukraine’s State Emergency Service said three children were killed in the attack. Eighteen people were injured, nine of whom were hospitalized, according to the report.”

    https://kyivindependent.com/update-16-killed-in-russian-missile-strike-on-uman/

Every one of those three children callously murdered on Putin’s orders has been robbed of more potential future life than Putin is likely to have left. Mere execution of Putin in punishment for this is inadequate to balance the scales of justice.

  38. Putin giving thumbs up to reactor start..

He looks like he has a lot on his mind… aged 10 years in the last year .. his gig is up

  39. C@tmomma and Steve77, thank you both. I think we can all see whose side those other ‘selective cancellers’ are on.

We are but a small group of free citizens of Australia fighting back. 🙂
