With the first postal votes being sent out this week, crunch time is arriving for parties to determine their how-to-vote cards, a much overrated yet not entirely insignificant feature of Australian election campaigning. First out of the block are the Liberal Party, whose how-to-votes are featured on the candidate pages of its website. These are in most cases tokenistic, since the preferences of Liberal candidates are usually not distributed, but it’s interesting to note that teal independents have been put last in Warringah, Goldstein and Kooyong, and behind Labor in North Sydney and Curtin (though not Wentworth). More consequentially, though not unpredictably, the party’s how-to-vote cards have Labor ahead of competitive Greens candidates.
The Liberal Senate tickets have the United Australia Party among the six parties recommended for numbering in every state except (wait for it) Western Australia: Palmer’s party is placed second in Victoria and Tasmania, third behind the Liberal Democrats in New South Wales and third behind One Nation in Queensland (the taboo against preferencing that party being very much a thing of the past). Pressed about the matter by The West Australian last month, Scott Morrison said: “I don’t believe there will be a deal and that is certainly not my expectation and it is certainly not my request.” However, he conceded it was a “matter for the party organisation”, and certainly didn’t stake his authority on the matter.
The party’s Queensland ticket offers a useful boost to Pauline Hanson, placing her ahead of Clive Palmer at number three and Campbell Newman at number four. Nonetheless, One Nation is directing preferences to Labor ahead of the Liberal National Party in Longman, which helped swing the result Labor’s way when the party last won the seat in 2016. Conversely, preferences are being directed to Warren Entsch in Leichhardt, contrary to suggestions he would be among a number of Liberal moderates targeted in relation for a sixth placement on the Liberals’ Tasmanian ticket. Those have turned out to be Bridget Archer in Bass, James Stewart in Sturt, Tim Wilson in Goldstein and Trent Zimmerman in North Sydney, with only the former seeming like a seat where the party is likely to attract much support. It is not clear from media reports if the teal independents are ahead of the Liberals in Goldstein and North Sydney.
At home, it wasn’t until WWII that the Australian Government played a central role in the provision of Housing.
By 1943, Prime Minister John Curtin established the Australian Housing Commission as he saw housing crucial to post-war recovery efforts.
A key recommendation of Curtin’s Housing Commission was that there would be a huge housing shortage after the war, and that the Federal Government would need to fund a significant portion of the roughly 700,000 homes needed over the next decade.

Re Katherine Deves
Lets end this, Deves views & social media postings were well know, she was selected by Textor & co. as a wedge candidate… to stand in a seat the Libs have SFA chance of winning simply to shore up the right wing religious support & to cover up the 3 years + of Shire Liars cock ups.. if it weren’t for the MSM the Libs would be 40% 2PP
Marles shouldn’t give it any air at all.
We are lucky that Boerwar wasn’t around to piss all over Curtin and Chifley’s Housing proposals. But I get the feeling they would take him out pretty quickly.
I don’t see why he should have to dance to McKenzie’s tune. Did Morrison ever provide proof that he had Covid?

I believe those are precisely the current numbers needed over the next 10 years. Seems strange what was great policy vision in 1944 is so laughable today.

Watching Barry Cassidy on election night 2019 was the highlight. All chocked up, wide eyed and incredulous, blinking back tears. It was lovely. Actually I have never enjoyed watching the ABC as I did that night. Might have to prepare myself for this year though.

Wong was my highlight. Watching her squirm and mumbling something about more data even after Antony Green had called it, was as good as it gets.
Mavis,
I am shocked , shocked – that my poor Great Aunt Eunice isn’t allowed to rest in peace.
I have spared Great Aunt Mathilde the news (given her advanced years) about this outrage.
I guess I should have been warned the depths these people would stoop to when they start researching the list of oldest Australians to try and doxx Eunice and Mathilde.

The Liberals did think they had a chance in Warringah, why else were they trying to recruit Gladys B to run? If it was an attempt to dog whistle only, they would have had the candidate make some other claims to whistle to other groups too.
Deves was chosen as an attractive youngish professional woman to counter another professional women with a sporting background.
Interested in the Reid electorate in Sydney? And what a ‘bad member’ Liberal Fiona Martin is?

Yes, I’ve got to agree with you. I once thought I’d be elevated to the bench, but that was a pipe dream, now facing a sentence in a maximum security twilight home, not far from the trailer park.

Your gloating pleasure over the utter incompetence and dishonesty of the mob of bible-bashing charlatans that were elected last time is making the vast majority of participants on this forum sick to the stomach. It apparently gives demonstrably stupid people like yourself (thier, thier, Melbourne Ports bullshit, barrell shooting etc.) and tin dildo some sort of sick pleasure to see their (sic) country go down the toilet, because of rampant corruption and an utterly disgraceful failure of governance.
We all look forward to the evening of 21 May, when you will be pissed on from a great height, and flushed away.

Thanks cobber. Took Mrs Upnorth shopping. Will have a beer later. Been tipped off Aussie Beef going up 30% in Thailand soon. We buy in bulk and freeze.
I make some home made mince for burgers, nachos and a mean savory mince. Our cat and dog which have travelled with us from Australia to China and now Thailand like the Aussie beef too. They won’t eat the local product (sometimes Water Buffalo).
Today I got some QLD Grass Fed Angus Rib Eyes and Sirloins too.
Muchly appreciated. I will have a gander after my mince making!!
I will also have a gander at PB!
Friday used to be fish’n’chip night back home. But we just can’t get the same taste here.

My thoughts are with you and how thoughtful you are.
As an aside, matelots can be hard but also very witty. And believe me, I’m not being caustic, but the dental surgeon’s name on HMAS Melbourne in ’71 was commander Merryfields. I refuse to disclose how he was known in the lower decks.
Upnorth: cheers mate, G’day to Mrs Upnorth too.
I’d love to have some quality XXXX drinking with you one day, ditto for a lot of the beer drinking lads in here.
Well my friends, there is talk tonight that Scomo is leaning on the RBA board not to increase rates next Tuesday. Corruption anyone? What say you?

While I can relate to your feelings on the matter, I think you and every other Labor supporter here would do much better to just completely ignore Steelydan and Taylormade. It’s the responses they get that they feed on.
Richard Marles in iso – well, I’ll be slightly nasty and say that as he’s a weak media performer, I doubt the campaign would miss him that much for a week.
Yabba: Bystander is totally right, just don’t feed Lars and Taylormade and the other Liberals in here, they love the attention. Just ignore them, all they want is a reaction out of their ideological opponents.
Go shopping for a couple of hours and Steelydan has gone off like a frog in a sock.
The heat must be getting to them Tories and their Media Mates
Keep it up men and women of Australia!
3 more weeks and Steelydans’ guitar going to be well and truly plucked.

Just quietly I have also been admitted to The Bar. It’s just around the corner from me.

Albo on the plane over to Perth..
Having the official launch 3 weeks out is actually a big thing, as funding for staff etc from the bureaucracy cuts out from launch date.
So Liberals wait till the last week, to maximise snouts in the trough.
And launching in WA. This campaign has been thought out very well..

With respect, no her views on trans women are not mainstream views.
Is just an exclusionary tactic with the sole purpose to divide and alienate. Trans women are women, otherwise there would be exactly zero reasons to transition to make their body match their neurological make-up. Who we are, trans or not, is controlled by our brains from before birth. It is still not understood what causes this wiring to mismatch everything else, but I can definitely tell you when they don’t match it’s absolutely excruciatingly debilitating.
Her views are absolutely toxic, because they fundamentally mislead people, with outright lies, in order to divide and alienate. Surgery is not mutilating, and indeed requires some pretty high bars to be met in order to access it. This includes two separate psychological assessments. Have a read of the WPATH standards of care, they’re the authoritative document on this stuff.

You sir are a genius.
Apparently a ridgey didge story hey.
Dave me mate is a boss of the XXXX Milton Brewery. Anyway he got sent to New York for some big international Beer conference. Plenty of bigwigs there.
At the lunch break he met up with the brewers of Budweiser and Heineken. They all agreed to have a beer at a restaurant before ordering some tucker.
The brewer at Budweiser ordered a Budweiser. The brewer from Heineken ordered a Heineken. Me mate Dave from XXXX just stood there and waited.
After an awkward pause the Budweiser bloke asked if Dave was going to order.
Dave looked at them both and said “But I thought we were having a beer before lunch”.
There is all this wet stuff falling from the sky in Melbourne at the moment.
Has anyone else recently had this experience and is it something to be concerned about??

In Bobawabba I used to play the spoons for tips and buy lollies at the corner store with the loot.
Eucalyptus Lollies and Black Jelly Beans were my favorite.
UpNorth: There is that old joke – the luckiest bloke is the one whose bride is the daughter of a family that owns a brewery.
Thought of that one while reading about your mate above.
For those wondering why one would vote something like this – 1. PHON 2. Greens. As one such voter I’ll tell you exactly why.
I live in Brisbane, or neighbouring seats that could fall to Greens. My view is that if this country wants socialism, and vote Labor, then blow that, they can have 100% socialism. No half efforts here, they can have the full Monty. PH would have a fit if she heard the view, but you know what, if it’s socialism people want why let them get away with the slow painfully retarded death by a 100 cuts Labor’s socialism will bring down on us. Oh no, blow that, let’s watch the place burn with the Greens in charge I say. Bring me the popcorn type thing.
The added bonus? Labor lose a seat they could otherwise have, such as McConnel at QLD State, and it’s a thrill to watch them have to put their resources to try and regain said seat(s).
Before the pile on, I will say this though. I actually think Greens MPs and the sole BCC City Councillor actually work hard and represent their (warped) communities well. I also admire that they actually stand for something (that I find repulsive) and actually fight for it (as opposed to major parties).
But enough mucking around, I want them (Greens) to run the place. After just one term the left will be consigned to history. Oh I pray for those days. … as a patriotic, flag loving, coal consuming, fiscally conservative Queenslander. … For now I can but vote 1. PHON/KAP 2. Greens
Much is made about sexism – and calling females to account
But really, these Tory females?
They should be called out for exactly the types of individuals they are
Not hiding behind gender
It was the same when Andrews hurt his back – someone hiding behind gender to peddle rubbish
They do themselves and the cause of gender equality no benefit – because they not only demean themselves they demean their gender
Chris Uhllmann on Nine News had a tanty because Albo hasn’t as yet agreed to debate Morrison on that channel.
Poor Chris, another example of a media commentator with an overinflated ego making himself or herself the story
Yabba,
While I can possibly admire the time and effort of individuals mastering the recorder, my reaction is always, it always sounds like asthmatic wheezing to me. The question is always, “What is the point and why bother”.
