Three things:
• The Victorian parliament has passed contentious legislation to change the process by which boundaries are drawn for local government elections, the effect of which will be an end to proportional representation in many councils and a return to single-member wards. This was passed through the upper house with the support of both major parties, and fairly obviously targets the Greens, whose local government footprint expanded considerably in 2016. The legislation is covered in greater detail by Ben Raue at The Tally Room. Relatedly, The Age reports Labor plans to endorse candidates across metropolitan councils at the elections in October, after doing so in only three councils in 2016. The Liberals in Victoria have never endorsed candidates.
• The closure of nominations for Queensland’s March 28 by-election for Bundamba on Tuesday revealed a field of four candidates representing the Labor, the LNP, the Greens in One Nation, just as there will be in Currumbin on the same day. You can read all about it in my election guides for the two seats, which are linked to on the sidebar.
• For those who have forgotten what a Labor election win looks like, Malcolm Farnsworth has posted four hours of ABC election night coverage from 1983 in two parts, here and here. The broadcast predates results at polling booth level and indicative two-party preference counts, which would have to wait until the 1990s, and without which it was difficult for analysts to read the breeze from partial counts in any but the most homogenous seats.

Conservative Max Boot goes off on Fox News for endangering people with their lies
Conservative Washington Post columnist Max Boot unleashed on Fox News for their long history of lies that are now endangering people’s lives.
Trump is acting like “the mayor in Jaws, blithely ignoring reports of a gigantic shark because he didn’t want to hurt the tourism season,” Boot quoted New York Magazine writer Jonathan Chait.
The disinformation isn’t only up to Trump and his Twitter account, however. The right-wing “pseudo-journalists” on Fox have been carrying the water since the beginning, Boot said.
“Think I’m exaggerating? I only wish I were,” Boot wrote, citing sites monitoring Fox News lies.
“The ‘conservative’ media have long shown their contempt for facts and science — for instance, by playing down the danger of climate change or Russian election attacks,” closed Boot. “Never has their contempt for the truth been more dangerous than it is today. To defeat coronavirus, we must first combat the mental afflictions — irrationality, conspiracy-mongering and Dear Leader-like devotion to Trump — spread by exposure to right-wing media.”

MSNBC’s Morning Joe hilariously fires back at Trump in real time for Twitter taunts
MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough responded to President Donald Trump’s taunts in real time.
The president gloated over television ratings crosstabs that show Fox News beating MSNBC in some demographics, and the “Morning Joe” host urged his former friend to stop watching and focus on the coronavirus crisis.
Wow! @foxandfriends blew away the competition of Morning Joke (which did very poorly) on MSDNC (Another Comcast sleaze production), and @CNN’s New Day, in the Morning Television Ratings. A total blowout, but that’s what you get when you treat “Trump” fairly!

“So the president, of course, with this crisis upon us, with the universities being shut down, with this health care crisis at our doorstep, the president has actually decided to tweet about our show,” Scarborough said, moments after the president posted his tweet. “So that’s where the president’s mind is.”
Scarborough was astonished and disturbed that Trump was distracted from a public health crisis by television shows that criticize him.
“He is worried about a cable news show,” he said. “That is like, dude — that is depressing.”

All that tells me is that there are so many cases in each state. Only in a few cases does it say where they re located. In the absence of the government providing any clear guidelines ad still allowing thousands of potentially infected people into the country, it would be helpful to know just how widely it has spread throughout the nation to date. If all the NSW cases are in Sydney, for example, say so, but if there are also cases in, eg Newcastle, Goulburn, Albury or the back of beyond, I’d prefer to know.
