Newspoll: 54-46 to Labor

Better numbers for the Coalition in the third Newspoll of Scott Morrison’s prime ministership, but Labor is still well in the clear on voting intention.

This fortnight’s Newspoll result is 54-46 in favour of Labor, after the Scott Morrison era began with successive results of 56-44. The primary votes are Coalition 36% (up two), Labor 39% (down three), Greens 10% (steady) and One Nation 6% (steady). Movement also to the Coalition’s advantage on personal rating: Scott Morrison is up three on approval to 44% and steady on disapproval at 39%, while Bill Shorten is respectively down five to 32% and up three to 54%, and Morrison’s lead as preferred prime minister has widened from 42-36 to 45-32.

UPDATE: Further findings from the poll record 24% of respondents saying Scott Morrison has made them more likely to vote Coalition, 31% less likely and 36% no influence; and 46% nominating Morrison as the more “authentic” of the two leaders, compared with 31% for Shorten. The poll was conducted Thursday to Sunday from a sample of 1675.

  1. Obama was elected on exactly the same message Trump used – I’m not an insider, I’m going to change the system, I’ll look after you.

Why don’t the reactionaries who coined the term “bedwetters” to describe anyone who voted against Abbott as PM now call themselves bedwetters for voting against Turnbull as PM? Especially given the polls etc weren’t nearly as problematic this time around…

  3. Who when push came to shove chose Wall St. over Main St. and was as enthusiastic as the usual US pres. when it came to bombing and invading .

poroti, as I was writing that I thought ‘bet poroti will have something to say about this’.

Yes, maybe he wasnt interested in such things. I believe he was but lacked the courage and/or the political capital. Being the first black president would have been a balancing act. Regardless, the point was more that there was a level headed and compassionate president. Not a narcissistic bigoted racist thug/slug/slob.

Sure wasn’t any of those but at the end of the day ‘Joe 6=Pack’ likely in no different a situation. Bill Clinton was called the “First Black President’ yet for every 100 black americans in jail when he took office 150 were in jail when he left. As for his welfare ‘reforms’, guess who got the rough end of the pineapple ? It’s heads I win tails you lose for the US plutocracy . Won’t end well but empires generally do not.

Just a reminder that #QandA is not on air tonight. We’ll return next week, live from Melbourne with @Birmo, @AmandaRishworth, @sarahinthesen8, @JohnButlerTrio and People’s Panellist Sali Miftari.

Interesting they’re broadcasting on a public holiday. I would’ve thought they’d take the opportunity to have next week off rather than this week.

  6. I would take President Obama over President Trump any and every day. And for that matter, Trump makes GWB’s tenure look adjusted and competent. I’d rather have GWB than Trump as Potus.

  7. Apologies, Boer, I meant GG — this is what happens when I’m typing and wondering if I should put the chooks away at the same time…

  8. Seems a lot has happened when I am mowing the lawn

    Me?

I was painting door trims all morning. 7 of the buggers.

But when I saw an extra 6 PB pages after BK’s links (instead of the usual 2 or 3) I knew something was up,

Was she sacked because she became infected with the ABC Virus ( e.g. the “We are One” campaign) or simply because she was “hopeless” at management and pissed off the staff?

Our household only really ever watches ABC News on the telly. It goes off when smarmy Bennett comes on. Hardly ever survives until Leigh Sales rears her head.

Radio is different. Because in The Regiobs radi receptiono is problematic, we use the ABC Listen app. Great value there (I.e. free).

I remember reading an interview with GWB last year where he was criticizing Trump’s attitudes towards the press, and I was mildly amazed just how articulate, intelligent, and level-headed he seemed in comparison to Trump.

Scott: Good news, Dave, I managed to find some time to campaign with you.

Dave: Oh, uh, thanks, but I think I can handle it, actually.

Scott: No, no, no, it’s very important by-election, got to get the big guns out.

Dave: I know, but I think I might actually do better if I distance myself from –

Scott: We’re not going to let you go it alone. I will be with you every step of the way.

    Dave: Please, no.

Scott: Now, how about a hug?

    Cue photo being taken.

Dave (sic) Sharma gets the Shire Liar hug of death..

Mr. Sharma is demonstrating the “Thousand Yard Stare”.

His matter transmitter has obviously failed and he is therefore left in the grip of Big Ted.

  12. I gave a putative candidate some advice last week about how to launch a campaign – and part of it was “Make sure you do it by yourself, look at what happened to Dave Sharma…”

  14. Say what you wan’t about what Obama did and didn’t do politically, but you cant deny that he and the Mrs classed the place up for a while. I cant remember a more graceful, polite or stylish couple in politics.

  15. ABC TVNews gives ScuMo the credit for getting Badgery’s Creek airport going. He’s the Can-Do PM.

In reality? All he did was to turn up with a shovel in hand.

  16. ABC TV News reports that farmers applying for drought relief find the form too complex.

If it’s anything like the Centrelink MOD PC form that I filled out recently on behalf of Her Indoors, poor bastards will shrivel up and die before Centrelink gets back to them.

  17. Obama based his message of change / improvement on inclusive hope, Trump based his message of fightback against the ‘other’ on hate, but yeah they were exactly the same.

  18. So Birmingham’s removal from Education was down to the former Liberal Party MP, Elder and Kroger – and then obviously Borrison

    So who runs this government?

It appears exclusively run by outside interests

The other question is where these former Liberal Party MP’s finish up after their political careers

Anyone care to draw up a List?

The SANFL’s head is Olsson who is a fomer Liberal Party MP

    Nelson, Carnell – others?

And 9 are advertising a puff piece on the brave men and women who protect our borders – hmmm

Playing to “border protection” – as they play to crime and African gangs

In terms of “border protection”, doing the job they are paid to do for mine

And just got polled by obviously Liberal, putting the Liberal candidate first then law and order, African gangs and safety on public transport as the issues questioned

  19. Zoidy…

You’re closer to the mark than you might think.

    @BB

And not to mention Robodebt the shit out of them, after the drought.

One of the farmers had a solution: pay out the money now in full, and sort out any overpayments later.

Geez (I thought) he’s in for an education.
