Morrison 45, Dutton 40

Scott Morrison is Australia’s sixth prime minister in eleven years, having prevailed in the second round of the party room vote by 45 votes to 40. Julie Bishop was eliminated after the first round: there are reports the vote was Dutton 38, Morrison 36 and Bishop 11. Josh Frydenberg replaces Julie Bishop after nearly eleven years as deputy, having won 46 votes against 20 for Steve Ciobo and 16 for Greg Hunt. Over to you.

I agree with you about Christine Foster. Her candidacy is certainly defined by a single issue. Plus she’s Tone’s sister.

She won’t win preselection if she nominates.

    Crikey 2016:

It’s Christmas party season, and a tipster tells us there was an interesting crowd at the party held by none other than Andrew Bolt. The News Corp columnist and Sky News host is unlikely to hold a “holiday” party, and we’re told he had many of his usual friends in attendance — former speaker and now Sky News guest Bronwyn Bishop was there, as was Cory Bernardi and Concetta Fierravanti-Wells. There was just one MP from the Labor side of politics — new Senator Kimberley Kitching was there with her husband, Andrew Landeryou.

    WOW!!!!

    @briefly

Scott Morrison has a fine line to tread, he needs to satisfy them enough so they don’t do what they did to Malcolm Turnbull’s government. Morrison is fortunate that his reputation among those people is a lot positive (Tony Abbott aside) than Malcolm Turnbull had.

They want to destroy him too. They regard him as a renegade, a traitor. And he stood in opposition to them today, confirming he is their enemy. They will be plotting his destruction already.

  4. Cat at 7.43PM quoting an article

Sukkar, with the support of Bastiaan has been bullying and threatening to obtain votes for Dutton

Hence my references to Sukkar in this site and elsewhere during this “process”

The threats have been pre selection – apart from Andrews in Menzies who Sukkar is protecting to the chagrin of some local Members – also members of the subservient Guy’s State seat of Bulleen which is under the developer Stamoulis’ control

The Victorian Division, now under the control of Sukkar and Bastiaan is dysfunctional

Including by branch members being intimidated to leave the Party in accordance with those Sukkar wants purged

I understand that Labor has a most credible candidate in Deakin – and hopefully Sukkar’s demeanour sees him defeated and a spent force politically

This is more than concerning – as the article Cat refers to confirms

There are questions as to why the Members for Aston and Latrobe have voted for Dutton

We actually live in a democracy

  5. By election Wentworth?
    Dutton to the HC?
    Cash to the DPP?
Frydenberg to Senate Estimates for GBRF?
    Growing cross bench?
    Retiring sitting members?
NEG Mark 7? Paris? Energy prices?
    Big business tax cuts?
    Criminal charges banks?
    Dutton au pairs?
    Debt/deficit?
    Catholic school funding?
    Murray Darling water RC?
    NBN clusterfuck?
    Hospital waiting times?
    Child detention?
    Penalty rates?
    Wage stagnation?
    Pensions/New Start?
    Flattening of the tax system?
etc etc plus Abbott, a pissed off public, & 100+ Consecutive losing polls
Good vote to win Scrott 🙂

  6. There are about 25 target seats for Labor at the coming election. All going well, Labor will win em all.

The Wikipedia article on the next federal election actually provides a nice pendulum which serves as a good list of seats that both major parties would be eyeing and what their current margins (notionally) are, for those who want a quick reference.

    boomy1,
Do you really think waving the Andrew Landeryou boogie man doll around is going to scare anyone? Though the gut on the Cosmic Psychos’ lead singer certainly will!

Yeah boomy1, stop waving the Andrew Landeryou boogie man doll around. We dont like it.

  8. Observer,
The former Labor MP for Deakin, Mike Symon, was a really nice guy too. Maybe it’s the changing demographics of Deakin that saw Labor defeated? Do you know?

  9. as far as general pulbic goes morrison overthrew turnbull abd look happy about it- they dont go into details, and they dont know who he is (wait till they find out)

Dominic Wy Kanak is a fine greens candidate and well known, and indigenous, and progressive- took advice given long ago to think about federal -i will personally help in campaign – could shake things up hopefully

  10. How much will the Hillsongy thing count against Scrot. My Anglican mother in law was far from impressed when I mentioned that to her. But she would vote Liberal if they had a sheep as candidate.

What I think most will not say especially in the MSN but the division is between….

    …the Trumpo-Putinist Nationalist Reactionary/Racists…and the merely hostile-to-Labor…

  12. morrison is a dumb bloke who wears religion on his sleeve – he will think this is god’s plan, and will be rigid, contradictory and shrill – remember his constant attempts to explain economics, laughable

maybe him and abbott can discuss theology of coal – if they know the meaning of discussion or theology

  13. Keating went on holiday with John Laws….

That must rank high in the list of most boring holidays ever. Jeez.

  14. Wouldn’t have been half as boring as you!

  15. nath, I’ve got a dog that need’s to be put down. All the labor voters I know are supporting things that will make her live a little mote.
I am asking you nath about your opinion as to if she should be killed.

  16. So, presumably Dickson voters will be unimpressed with Dutton’s behaviour over the last week, and he’s really in trouble at the next election, no?

    Good news.

  18. I have decided I need a couple of days to recuperate after all the shenanigans of today.

I might check in on Sunday morning during #inciters but I suspect tomorrow will be an anticlimax after all the anticipation (read fear of a Dutton PMship) today.

    Night all!

  19. Cat

There is a strong remnant Family First element in the Eastern suburbs of Melbourne

If you look at the map of State seats held you will find a blue line along the right hand side of the Yarra into the Dandenong Ranges

That is where the Liberal Party strength is – and there are very large Church sites such as Discovery Church in Mt Evelyn along with many other such organisations

The size of them is staggering

It is where Bastiaan and Sukkar get their numbers from, numbers which have seen them take control of the Victorian Division of the Liberal Party

    Deakin:

    https://www.pollbludger.net/2015/04/16/seat-of-the-week-deakin-2/

Symon’s margin was cut from 2.4% to 0.6% at the redistribution before the 2013 election, mainly due to the electorate’s absorption of Liberal-voting territory around Vermont South, and he was then toppled by a Liberal swing of 3.8%.
    :::
Labor’s preselected candidate for the next election is Tony Clark, manager of Vision Australia and unsuccessful state election candidate for Ringwood. Mike Symon again sought preselection and narrowly defeated Clark in the local party ballot, but this was overwhelmed by support for Clark in the 50% of the vote determined by the state party’s Public Office Selection Committee. It was reported in Crikey that the Left abstained from the POSC vote, as it wished to let “the Right factions fight out between themselves”.

Apologies in advance for providing information in response to your query.

  21. BarneyiGD@9:07lm
    Wow
Since I am discussing betrayal in politics, Do you know that Mark Arbib, who became a junior minister in Rudd ministry because he was General Secretary of NSW ALP, used to pass information about Rudd and Rudd ministry to Andrew Bolt. I used to wonder how Bolt got so much inside info about ALP government. After 2010 elections, when Gillard came to know who the leaker is, she asked him to resign. Bob Carr filled that Senate vacancy because she wanted him to be FM. Do you know who he voted in Gillard-Rudd spill?

  22. I think I read in Hartcher article (or was it Mjrphyroo article) that Dutton and Cormann were described as praetorian guard of MT i.e. they were protesting MT from RWNJ of the LNP parliamentary members.

Considering that it was pretty common practice for the Praetorian Guard to depose their own Emperors and often put one of their own in as a successor that seems like an historically accurate term in this case.

  24. Keating went on holiday with John Laws….

    Look over there….Look over there…

please don’t look at the tories, tearing, slashing, burning, crushing the christ out of their very insistence.

    Please… look over there.

So said nath – for the last week….

    Patheltic.

    Utterly pathetic

I didn’t raise the issue of the Keating/Laws holiday. Never even knew about it. I just commentated that it must have been boring. sorry, find your boogey man somewhere else in this case.

  26. Cat 912pm – I work a lot in Deakin. It is getting a bit older demographically. I was surprised in 2016 that Labor didn’t get closer. But then I hope that the fact that it has gone with the winning Government the last eight elections maybe makes it the classic outer-suburban swinging seat, that will go to Labor in a general election win. There are a few of those new mega-churches, but though this may have infiltrated the Liberal branches in the Outer East I don’t think it’s making a difference in the wider electorate.

The people I meet if interested in any political things it would be health (state and federal) transport (state issue) and penalty rates/ wage stagnation.

Though sometimes driving past Mullauna College near the north-west corner of the electorate I have seen young men and women of African descent battling with … cricket bats and balls!
