YouGov Galaxy: 52-48 to federal Coalition in Queensland

Another better poll result for the government, this time from Queensland, which finds the swing to Labor at an almost-manageable 2%.

Today’s Courier-Mail has a YouGov Galaxy poll of federal voting intention in Queensland which gives the Coalition one of its best poll results in some time, crediting them with a 52-48 lead. This represents a two-party swing to Labor of only 2.1% since the 2016 election, although it’s only one point better than in the previous Queensland poll by Galaxy in August last year. The poll also provides further evidence that One Nation has gone off the boil, their primary vote of 9% being three points down on August. The Coalition is up four to 41% (compared with 43.2% at the election), Labor is steady on 32% (30.9% at the election), and the Greens are up three to 10% (8.8% at the election).

A perfectly even split of opinion is recorded on the Adani coal mine, with support and opposition both at 41%. This breaks down to 43-38 against in south-east Queensland, and 45-37 in favour in the rest of the state. The poll was conducted Wednesday and Thursday from a sample of 860.

  1. Last Mad as Hell had a series of about 12 photos of Barnaby drinking a pint of beer. And a red face. There was a clear implication about how much you’d trust him.

  2. Henry:

Kenny’s ranting about the ABC is in total opposition to reality. When was the last time he listened to Breakfast or watched 730 Report?

  3. Kenny fails to mention Guthrie, Switzer, Vanstone etc. Definitely not left or centrists on the ABC. And then there is the bizarre Macca

  4. Whoever it was in the PM’s office who came up with the idea of portraying Ms Campion as a “non-core partner” gets this week’s prize for lack of political nous.

    Sam D posted this…

To all the many many people who have taken the time to send me encouraging and lovely private messages on Twitter – I just want to say: I LOVE YOU . Or, as they say in China: 我爱你.

  6. q and a was dismal – 4 of them let joyce off and van the outside ranted and showed she is out of depth as public commentator (vs wannebe activist) – look, vicki left office because of staff revolt – small management problem in middle of this – i’m embarrassed at how out of touch both parties seem to be. the behaviour is not on in workplace – it is not private matter – it seems austr politicians needs outside regulation if they can’t control themselves – no sex with office staff (in future then) full stop

I was born in Victoria’s share of the sticks but we moved else where when I was about 5. But no particular attachment to Aussie Rules.

  8. I was in a pub in a northern NSW coastal town at Xmas when Joyce drove up in his Toyota Landcruiser, parked, walked in and took money from an ATM. The surly bastard didn’t even stop to say hello or have a drink. I wondered at the time if he was holidaying with his new girlfriend. My wife was shocked when I mentioned the rumours to her – such a respected man of the bush and all that clap trap.

    Suffer in yer jocks, Joyce.

Good riddance to the red faced rodeo Romeo, Gina’s tool and coal lobby crusader. A blight on the polity.

    He won’t be missed.

  9. “Sam’s baaaaaack!!!!!”

Yay! And, what Sam seems to be on about is the employment stuff, cover up aspect.

I reckon Barnyard fully deserves to be crucified over that.

And the media have failed so badly over this its probably needed for sarcy people like sam to carry the trouble making for a while. Blowback on the ALP will be minimal i reckon and keeps the Libs squirming.

I’ve read bits and pieces on Bretton-Woods and it’s a very interesting bit of history when you grasp even some of the things it spawned.

It could be another dual citizenship stuffup. Labor could well have some issues with staff/lovers etc. The sharks are circling. Labor should definitely stay out of the water.

  12. http://www.smh.com.au/federal-politics/political-news/malcolm-turnbull-distances-himself-from-barnaby-joyce-over-messy-affair-20180212-p4z02p.html

“After leaving Mr Joyce’s office to work for Senator Canavan in April 2017, Ms Campion temporarily moved back to Mr Joyce’s office – soon after Senator Canavan resigned from the ministry in July 2017 because of dual citizenship issues – before moving to Mr Drum’s office a few weeks later”

So my original question re Drum was correct….why did she need to move from Beetroot’s office if the affair had ended and/or she wasnt a partner

  13. “Labor should definitely stay out of the water.”

    Nope.

Let Dastyari dump bucket of Barnyard chum……while Malcolm has already taken it into his head to go for a paddle in it.

Its the kind of situation that mainly, seems to attract the Libs to self harm.

  14. Henry

Good news. She always was a Keating favourite /acolyte.

Now she’s a Turnbull one, at least while she’s still working for the AFR.

Maybe she’ll surprise us once she starts at the ABC but I doubt it.

  15. Labor should definitely stay out of the water.

Definitely agree. Plus Dastyari is an idiot, so not the person from the Labor side to be finessing the Barnaby thing.

  16. Diogenes, Labor is asking legitimate questions as it must do as an opposition.

If there are things to hide on Labor’s side, so be it.

  17. Confessions, it would be a worse look for Labor to stay stum on the staff appointment stuff. Would just look like the Pollies Protection Racket. Plibersek hit the right notes on Sunday.

  18. Roger B:

Yes there are legitimate questions around the use of taxpayer funds i employing Campion, but Dasher has gone beyond that by invoking sexual relationships.

Labor need to leave that well alone.

  19. Department of Human Services has recommended the services of a company that has links to a Federal MP member Bruce Bilson.

“Back to school costs can add up, but there’s help available. Saver Plus will match your savings for school costs, dollar for dollar, up to $500.

You may be eligible if you have a Centrelink Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card, and you or your partner have some regular income from work.

Find out more and how to apply here: http://www.saverplus.org.au“.

A simple check on their website reveals that Bruce Bilson is member of the LNP Party and Federal Member.

    Under the directors section:
    https://www.bsl.org.au/about/our-people/

They not even hiding it really…

“The Hon Bruce Billson – Board Director”.

  20. zoid

Much as I would like to catch out Bilson and his party cronies still in government, the Brotherhood of St Laurence is a charity, not a company. The hint for me to check it out was the ‘org’ in the email address. Referring clients to this program might point to a failure of Government, but not malfeasance.

  21. It’s funny how to political commentators ‘hypocrisy’ is not considered a relevant issue for condemnation of politicians.

Yet many punters hate politicians because they are seen as bloody hypocrits.

    hmmmmm

Labor need to leave that well alone.

Fess, Dasher is no longer Labor. One advantage of him being pushed out of politics is that he is a free agent. Of course, it would not help Labor to go near him, but then he might not think he owes the Parliamentary party anything for leaving him swinging in the wind.

  23. Fess

Sam Dastyari is merely challenging JBishop who made the threat to Labor to back off cos glass houses and all that. Quite pathetic really, due to Labor not being the instigators of this shit show. Dastyari is basically saying, go down that road and the stones will be going right back into Bishop and the coalition faces.

  24. Vic:

Murdoch’s media obviously sat on these revelations waiting for parliament sitting for maximum effect and front page spreads.

    Why Barnaby? And why now?

  25. Fess

Cos he is a ticking time bomb and Mal is obviously caught up in it. Better to cut BJoyce loose now than risk him going forward closer to election.

  26. @TPOF

Wrong it’s conflict of interest to recommend it.

No different to Welfare Cashless Card

Which is also by a former LNP member Larry Anthony.

  27. TPOF:

My preference is that nobody associated with the ALP goes Joyce on his personal relationships. And you can argue that Dasher isn’t Labor in a technical sense, but in the minds of many people he still is.

  28. “Goodness. i am starting to wonder what skeletons are lurking in Barnaby’s closet. ”

Get em having to defend themselves often speaking to this and someone in the libs will fwark up and blurt. 🙂

Circus, popcorn, and shaping to be a good example of the Libs running a protection racket for themselves….a bit like their refusal to refer their own MP’s.

Can all be tied together into quite an uncomfortable narrative for Malcolm. Plibersek, a sitting MP (luv her) reasonable and measured, Sam going FERAL ……..Morrison and Malcolm feelin glike they have to comment…. 🙂 …….

Real potential of bigly pear shapedness for the Libs here. 🙂

  29. One wonders whether the Murdochracy is aiming to still get Tony back on top – and held this to force an election sooner rather than later. I can see Tony thinking he can do one term as opp leader and then gain ascendancy like last time around. His ego would see this as a realistic aim, even though the rest of the planet will just keep ‘walking straight past him without even noticing he’s there’

  30. Vic:

What does cutting Barnaby loose now achieve other than a change of Nat leadership? And what does that achieve?

This is why I’m asking: who is benefiting from this News ltd campaign against Barnyard?

  31. Fair point about the sex life stuff Confessions. I can’t see Labor going down that road. Plibersek quite clear on Sunday.

  32. Kenny criticizes Butler for Labors alleged hypocrisy in allowing tax cuts for small and medium business while canning cuts for the big end of the planet.
Conveniently forgets that smaller businesses actually pay tax. Unlike his master Rupert.

  33. Imacca

It reeks of a conspiracy between the PM office and Barnaby and the Nats to cover up and protect his affair over the past year or so. Even going as far to ensure that Mrs Joyce attended the mid winter ball with Barnaby to give the appearance of happy families. And I sense that Mrs Joyce was being deceived into attending the Ball on the proviso that the affair was over. Meanwhile, the Protection racket on behalf of barnaby was in full swing.
It is really quite disgusting if this is indeed what transpired.

  34. The MSM – Murdoch, ABC, Fairfax, the Guardian, TV, etc. – have only come out with the Barnaby story because they’ve been cornered by social media and Barnaby’s victims. They are trying to save face now, three months after the NE by-election. They hid the truth about Kathy Jackson as well for political purposes. The media is as crooked as the politicians in this country.

  35. I do wonder what News Ltd is up to. Has Barnaby lost the support of Gina?
    Have they sniffed the outrage?
Did Barnaby not offer them something?

  36. Fess

i don’t look at it as a benefit, but as a necessary step for the govt going forward. BJoyce’s conduct and indiscretions are obviously a serious problem for the govt. best to do damage control and get him out a long way before next election, rather than this shit show blowing up during next election.

  37. Apropos of nothing and my nads will probably be roasted for this, but I remember meeting Ms Tingle in the mid nineties in Canberra as a mere strapling 20 something and thinking she was a bloody good sort.
More fool you Alan Ramsey. Then again, Sam Neil.

  38. Ides

My theory, and it is as good as anybody’s, is that News asked Barnaby for the exclusive “love birds” story with nicely posed pics.

It would have told the story of a man, lonely and stressed after years loyally serving the nation in Canberra, who had found a new purpose to his life.

He told them to nick off.

So they did it their way.

Maybe the figured that there would be collateral damage to man they really hate, Turnbull. If not it has been a bonus.
