YouGov Galaxy: 52-48 to federal Coalition in Queensland

Another better poll result for the government, this time from Queensland, which finds the swing to Labor at an almost-manageable 2%.

Today’s Courier-Mail has a YouGov Galaxy poll of federal voting intention in Queensland which gives the Coalition one of its best poll results in some time, crediting them with a 52-48 lead. This represents a two-party swing to Labor of only 2.1% since the 2016 election, although it’s only one point better than in the previous Queensland poll by Galaxy in August last year. The poll also provides further evidence that One Nation has gone off the boil, their primary vote of 9% being three points down on August. The Coalition is up four to 41% (compared with 43.2% at the election), Labor is steady on 32% (30.9% at the election), and the Greens are up three to 10% (8.8% at the election).

A perfectly even split of opinion is recorded on the Adani coal mine, with support and opposition both at 41%. This breaks down to 43-38 against in south-east Queensland, and 45-37 in favour in the rest of the state. The poll was conducted Wednesday and Thursday from a sample of 860.

  1. Meanwhile, beyond the Dastyari bullshit, an actual development. FOI requests are being refused.

.@SkyNewsRicho: All of the Freedom of Information requests are being refused. They’re being refused because @Barnaby_Joyce, @Damiandrumnat, and @mattjcan are at fault, and because @TurnbullMalcolm okayed the jobs.

I think William has deliberately not posted his email in that format so that bots won’t capture it.
    Well done CTar1 and KJ.

I am not sure why anyone tries to hide their email with subterfuges such as

    john.smithatbigpond.com

For a start, bots can work it out. It is a trivial coding exercise.

For another, it doesn’t make a blind bit of difference.

My email is in the clear, as a link, on hundreds of my website pages. I want interested people to contact me. And they do.

I get about 15 or 2o Nigerian Princes and ‘dearly beloved’ emails each day, but in my spam folder. After thirty days, they disappear forever. When a spam email not recognised by gmail slips through, I mark it as spam, and it disappears. This happens about once a week. Not a problem.

It is just not a big deal.

German workers win right to 28-hour week following industrial action

…It means from next year, workers at many of Germany’s most important engineering firms can opt to take on a 28-hour working week for up to two years. Employers will not be able to prevent individual workers from taking up the offer……………….The union’s demands reflect changing working preferences of employees who want more private time instead of more pay. Some want to care for their children or ailing parents while others want to engage in communal work.

  4. Good on Sam.

He was hounded out of Parliament on the basis of what appears to be quite improperly released information collected under extraordinary national security laws. Nobody, least of all the sneering, narcissistic Prime Minister, was in the slightest concerned with whether any law or code of ethics had been broken. It was all about political advantage.

Now he is out of Parliament, he is entitled to express his opinion and he doesn’t particularly owe it to the Labor Party to keep his mouth shut, let alone anyone else.

I am troubled that the same people who advise on the need for such a spend are the ones who will financially benefit from delivering the service.

Besides, he drives a 4WD Porsche.

  6. Why is Linda Reynolds being allowed to crap on with this bullshit – I’m switching off Q&A. Molan is in fact the greatest Australian hero, should be canonised. The ABC is thoroughly cowed.

  7. Me (Tom Cruise): So, Colonel Jessup (Damian Drum) if the affair was over between Barnaby Joyce and his staffer…why did she need to be moved to a new position?

In this case Drum received the additional staffer from Carnavan’s office, not from Joyce.

This was when he stood down over Section 44. So in this case it is ‘plausible’, though she was Joyce’s partner.

That’s why I said get a second opinion. Different people might have a different view on how much work is needed.

It was obvious early on that both my sons would need straightening. So I started saving and I had health insurance help.

Then at age 48 their mother had major trouble with pain in her jaw. Only after much investigation it was traced to problems with misaligned teeth and she had to have braces to fix it.

The bloke who did all three offered a payment plan.

  9. In this case Drum received the additional staffer from Carnavan’s office, not from Joyce.

This is right. The real shonky was when she moved to Canavan’s office with a nice fat promotion. The shift from Canavan to Drum is actually defensible on the grounds that once the s44 issues were sorted she’d go to a minister’s office.

Although of course that still requires Trumble to tick off the ‘partner in all but name’.

  10. People familiar with Damian Drum’s time as Fremantle coach might have a smile at the thought of him being the Nats whip.

He wasn’t much good at getting his players to work as a team.

  11. Good evening all,

The Barnaby Joyce saga has now taken on a life of its own. It is no longer about the morality of fu**ing a staff member it now all about the cover up.

The liberals know that and are running a mile a minute away from any connection. Now even Nationals are covering their own arse. In their haste both are making mistakes.

Lance came into the week demanding clarification from Turnbull. Turnbull, the fool, released a statement which made it only worse. As well, he has stated he knew nothing. Locked in.

The MSM are now chasing each other like rats up a drain pipe trying to outdo each other with ” exclusives “. Blood is now in the water. Labor can just sit back and watch.

As I said, it is now not about morality, it is about the cover up and who knew what when. Turnbull only added to that with the moronic statement his department released today.

Re Sam Dastyari. He is no longer a member of the labor caucus, he can say what he likes.

    Cheers.

  12. As well, he (Turnbull) has stated he knew nothing.

This is Turnbull’s special subject, denying knowledge and wringing his hands. Again looking weak.

Yep, the first law of public relations is to put your dirty laundry out yourself.

Joyce could have, months ago, made an announcement along the lines that his marriage was over, he deeply regretted this, the pressures of public office takes its toll, etc etc.

  14. rossmcg

And if you are are total failure as coach there is always the Nationals :)……..
After losing the Fremantle job, Drum moved back to Victoria, and took up a position as coach of the Bendigo Diggers in the Victorian Football League. The situation was similar to Fremantle – the Diggers, finished the season winless, with a single draw against the Murray Kangaroos.[5] At the end of the season, Drum decided to retire from football and move into politics, successfully seeking Nationals pre-selection for the Victorian Legislative Council seat of North Western Province

You should go with rossmcg’s advice –

That’s why I said get a second opinion. Different people might have a different view

On the Porsche Suv, the dentist giving a second opinion might tell you what a heap of crap they are and, if you ask nicely, charge you bugger all for that.

The issue that will tell against the gang of 4 is the financial preferment given to Campion. They can be as coy as they like. This will only make it worse. The only way to stem this is for Joyce to resign and to set himself up to take all the blame. But even this may not work. The others were all complicit in paying Campion. If it is good enough for one to resign, why not all 4?

  17. Dio

Maybe he doesn’t brag about it. Not a great record. They were winless when he was sacked after nine rounds in his third and final season in 2001.

But for what it is worth I recall that people I know who had dealings with him in that time reckoned he was a decent enough bloke.

Now he is a Nat so that assessment might change.

Williams email address is readily available in clear on other web pages.

William might like to give a directive concerning this matter.

I have posted on more than one occasion my email address.

    kmcneill@bigpond.net.au

and have not been troubled with unwanted communication.

On the other hand if anybody wants to argue about this; you don’t need my permission; go right ahead.

It’s good night from him and Brown Bear. 💤💤💤

  19. I’ll give you a second opinion. Ask what will happen if you don’t have braces. What are the risks of not having it done? Will he get diseases? What dental problems will it lead to? How serious are the problems? Will the teeth problems cause loss of teeth? Problems eating?

  20. If the 4 end up being forced to resign, surely….surely…there should be an election…..surely the LNP will have lost all their credibility, such as it ever was.

  21. Apropos of nothing, I am reading a book called “The Summit” by Ed Conway. This is a history of the Bretton Woods agreement, very well written and has a lot of interesting information. Bretton Woods was a hotel past its prime (even then in 1944), think perhaps of The Hydro Majestic in the Blue Mountains.

I had to share this snippet:

    The Bretton Woods Song
And when I die don’t bury me at all,
Just cover my bones with alcohol.
Put a bottle of booze at my head and my feet,
And pray the lord my soul to keep.

  22. zoomster and rossmcg,

Graeme Richardson made a very interesting point in a article he wrote in the Australian on Saturday ( I think ).

He said Turnbull and Joyce, with all their connections to big business, could have easily placed the person in question in a job in the private sector. If so, there would be no story.

However, for whatever stupidity the pair possess, it was decided to go down the path chosen.

The lack of any political nous by Turnbull is once again confirmed as is the arrogance and stupidity of Joyce. The statements today by the office of the PM and Turnbull himself confirm even more the stupidity of the man.

It could have been all so easily taken care of. Now, it is all about the cover up.

Cheers and a hood night to all.

  23. Poroti

The thing was Drum was highly regarded as an assistant before he got the Freo gig. It is reported that he nearly landed the Collingwood job. I would much preferred that he had flopped there rather than at Freo. In fact I reckon millions of people would have.

  24. John Hewson was the the only Liberal leader that we probably should have had as a PM.

It would have probably prevented the Howard disaster.

  25. CTar1

You not from Victoria then? He was an Upper House Nat in the state parliament for quite a few years and a Minister for Sport under Napthine before going Federal at the 2016 election.

And he played 63 games for Geelong!

  26. So Laura Tingle aka Alan Ramsey’s missus, is joining ABC as chief political correspondent. Good news. She always was a Keating favourite /acolyte.

  27. Henry

Get up to speed. Ms Tingle is reported to have moved on from Ramsay. Reported last week, in the Fin Review no less and not denied, she is being seen in company with actor Sam Neill,
