And they’re off. Polls have closed, and the first results should be in in half an hour or so. I’ll be part of ABC Radio’s coverage, which you can hear on local radio in Western Australia and around the country on News Radio. Here’s a thread for you all to discuss the action as it occurs.
Western Australian election live
A thread for discussion of the Western Australian election count.
Come on Mark, slug the miners!
Wow. Big Win! Next stop Canberra?
Big swing in Darling Range.
Who cares?? 🙂
Why would ANYONE want to go to the PHON after party!?!
Crook is the former member for O’Connor.
Greens the same.
Nationals the same.
ON exists but just.
Labor wins.
Liberals lose.
Well done briefy and friends.
Well, the polls and reality have met………………well done Labor! William is just on 11 as I speak! So Green and Bowe of one mind at 7.35 pm….
Always good to see “Liberals” unhappy on election night.
The Liberal Party have NOT ‘been a very good government under Colin Barnett’! That’s why people are voting them out!
Looks like a fantastic result.
To gloat.
Also, just to listen and see where the RWNJ’s talk about going now.
and at the moment i think the gloat may be premature. 🙁 upper house??

Don’t you just love it! 😀
Lets get ready for tory excuse bingo
1) The message did cut through about the economic management/budget
2) unfair campaign by the unions/privatisation
3) Good government just not understood by the voters
I.e. Not our fault, we were great, voters fault
32 definite!
Want to see Nahan lose his seat now.
Want to see Watson retain his seat.
You are an amazing campaigner Briefly! Well done, that man! 😀
Peter Dutton is sharpening the potato peeler

Cartoon by Matt Golding about the WA elections.
The Libs getting hurt by the PHON deal (and the Nats not losing despite not having one) is actually good for Turnbull. Its demonstratable evidence that catering to the PHON vote isn’t going to pay dividends. It’d be better for him if the Libs had one without a PHON deal but that was never on the table.
Is Rex around?
Of course W.A. ALP would have won by a lot more if we had any leader but Shorten federally. 🙂
If this election was “about state issues” as Keenan claims, then where was Malcolm?
4.8%? So much for the rise of ON.
Congrats to Labor on what looks to be a great result
Just in case anyone isn’t aware, McGowan lost the last election, and Labor stuck with him as leader. Any correlation with Federal Labor (Rex?)
Tim Hammond quite effective drawing federal connotations from the collapse of the Liberal vote
Absolutely hilarious that Liberal dickhead on ABC 24 saying that penalty rates were not an issue in the WA election. That is a dead give away that he did f’all campaigning during the election.
Elfy – But what does Malcolm do in the Senate? He wants Pauline’s vote but he’s now got to keep his distance – which she won’t appreciate. He’s in a tough position.
Yes, congratulations to all the bludgers in WA who helped to achieve this result.
Thanks you to all the PB campaigners who have helped give us a great night.
I wonder if the PHON voters will blame their nemesis, their enemy #1 – Malcolm Turnbull?
OK, so will the media now shut up about Australia lurching to the right, becoming more racist, etc etc? Probably not.
A Queensland LNP/PHON deal has just become a bit less likely.
Keenan delusional and trying to convince himself as much as anyone that Barnett lost for no other reason that ‘It’s Time’ and hard decisions had to be made over 8 1/2 years.
What a crock!
Does it look like ON won’t get any upper house seats?

Albany was always safe.
ABC Website has ALP projected to win 35 seats.
Rob Johnson the whiny little biatch gone!
*Predicted, not projected, to be exact.
Wow.
The shift in 1st preferences away from the Libs must be frightening for them. If anything translates to a federal result it will be that…even if it doesn’t quite generate the swings seen tonight.
Ab11 But what does Malcolm do in the Senate? He wants Pauline’s vote but he’s now got to keep his distance – which she won’t appreciate. He’s in a tough position.
Brilliant isn’t it. Just brilliant. There more he needs her the more he damages himself. Brilliant.
‘A First Preference vote collapse for the Liberal Party’ according to Antony Green.
PHON down to 4.6% Getting worse as the urban votes come in.
Confessions, Anthony Green showing 7.3% 2PP swing to Peter Watson.
ajm:
Fabulous. I’ve been worried for weeks about how Peter would travel this election. He always battles down to the wire each election.
And here’s Peter!
Oh Turnbull is still boned in the Senate but that was true no matter what.
Peter Watson!
a drop of 16% on first prefs is about 33% of how big a drop the Libs deserve
Uniform swing of 9.9%. Wow. Massive!
