Labor slips back a point in this week’s reading of the Essential Research fortnightly average, from 54-46 to 53-47, although this is to do with a particularly weak result for the Coalition a fortnight ago washing out of the result, rather than a turn in their favour this week. On the primary vote, the Coalition is up a point to 36%, Labor is steady on 37%, One Nation is steady on 10%, and the Greens are down one to 8%. Other findings are that 49% disapprove of Donald Trump’s self-styled Muslim ban, with only 36% in favour. At least some of this would appear to be down to questions of implementation, as the gap is narrower on the question of whether Australia should do something similar, with 41% in support and 46% opposed. Fifty-three per cent agree with the Prime Minister’s position that it is not his job to comment, versus 36% who disagree. Other questions relate to technology use, including a finding that 50% say technological change is making lives better, with 25% opting for worse.
Essential Research: 53-47 to Labor
A slight move back to the Coalition in this week’s Essential Research poll, which also gauges support for Donald Trump’s “Muslim ban”.
Unfortunately, Francis is blocking the release of all relevant documentation on child abuse held in the Vatican to the governments of the world.
While that remains the case, the One Holy Apostolic and Universal Church can’t even begin to take step one. Anything that does happening is mere sound and fury signifying nothing.
When you have a one man totally unaccountable CEO then what that CEO does, or does not do, is really all that matters.
Francis undermines any moral authority he might claim to have.
IMO, while those documents sit in the Vatican, protecting the perps and protecting the protectors of the perps, the Church is at ground zero.
It has gone nowhere and it can go nowhere.
It effectively makes Francis the protector-in-chief of all of the world’s RC paedophiles.
Yabba88, I agree with all of the above.
Apologies if it wasn’t clear, but I was merely disagreeing with the idea that he is a protected species. It’s generally a free for all around here.
I see ‘Shows On’ still hasn’t had his/her shift key fixed.
‘Bernardi Party Website’
Pretty crap web site.

‘Unfortunately, Francis is blocking the release of all relevant documentation on child abuse held in the Vatican to the governments of the world.’
I think that the relevant governments should threaten to revoe this organisations tax free status until the documents are released. Might help to concentrate the Pope’s mind.

People stop referring to the US as a democracy?
I think that the relevant governments should just revoke all religious organisations tax-free status until they all reveal documents outline their knowledge of abuse. That will help them to concentrate their minds.
GOOD TO SEE YOU SHOWSIE
Good Morning.
CNN was fun today. Live audio of arguments in Muslim Ban case.
The pundits seem to think the Judges order (so called!) order will remain. We should know by this time tomorrow.
“Awwww. Just heard that the sink in PPiper is nowhere near PM’s home.”
So Tony’s latest attempt to undermine Malcolm has gone off course.
I’d ban shaving cream. All it is is a moisturiser. Wetting your bristles with water is just as good. I’ve shaved in the shower my whole life and lived to tell the tale.

Soap and water works real well.
My wrinkles are doing just fine without the use of creams, lotions or potions.
Nearly 20 years ago grandson told me, after looking at said wrinkles “you are very, very, very, very old, Pa”.
Damn kids, what do they know ❓
Good. As long as it reached the Supreme Court before Trump can start stacking it with his lackeys, all is well. Or rather, well enough.

My God, Zurr, you must be waterlogged by now ❗ (>‿◠)✌
What is this shaving you speak of?
Tony’s latest attempt to undermine Malcolm has gone off course :‑D
As Maxwell Smart would say, ‘missed it by that much’.
KJ – Bah, boom!
I think that all the people on this site that are trying to associate a “sink hole” with our esteemed PM and his party should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves. How can you dare bring the current government down to this level? If, on the other hand, you were to refer to it as a “suck hole”… 😉
Tom.

I have also been shaving in the shower for years and am also very, very clean and very wrinkled. :wrinkled emoji: ♡
Time for coffee ☕
‘I’ve shaved in the shower my whole life and lived to tell the tale.’
Not if you use an electric razor.
Actually, you can get waterproof ones, which are ok, as long as you don’t leave them plugged in…

Where have you been?

So are the Libs heading back to 2014 for inspiration. If so, this could get ugly.
Anton
‘Heading back’ gives the impression that at some stage they had moved on…
Lizzie and Bemused
As a regular attender of RCs, and as a member of a victims’ support group, I have met many like GG who even today are “deniers”. I have no sympathy for them, because those who are still “deniers” in 2017 are wilfully blind.
And further to that, many of them are not just quiet “deniers” …. they still actively wreak havoc on victims and victims’ families (even when the victim has suicided as a kid or young adult).
I have mentioned here before a very nice little old lady of humble background, now aged 90, who was the housekeeper at a presbytery in the 1970’s when one of the highest profile cases was being perpetrated in the upstairs priest bedroom on a frequent basis.
Although this case had huge national publicity, she remained a denier until for some reason she decided to attend the Cunneen Special Commission a couple of years back, where we became friends. There she heard direct evidence, and was able to see the blatant lies senior clericals told.
She had been wilfully blind for years, then she decided to open her eyes.
The big city is full of such stories. Ah…. Dragnet
Hey its 2014 all over again. What other nasties and broken promises will we find?
Psyclaw
SHOWS ON has been away searching for a replacement for his stolen Caps Lock key.
IOM – And in 2014, the Libs weren’t planning a big hand-out to multinationals! God, they’re dumb.

Parents, IMO, too often shut down the child who innocently reports touching they were uncomfortable with, and closes the door permanently on any more openness.
Not quite the same, I know, but in my late teens I walked off the dance floor when I became uncomfortable with the way I was being held in a quickstep. I was told off by my mother who tried to make me go back “and apologise for being rude to the Doctor”. 🙁
Archbishop Coleridge of Brisbane has been facing up at the RC today. He is a “goodie” in terms of what he has done to not cover matters up, but when it comes to the questions the RC is addressing now ie where does the RC church go from here, he performs so badly.
Being part of the hierarchy and a devotee of Canon Law he just can’t conceptualise the drastic changes that are needed in church structure to fix it. (there have been about 10 experts giving evidence about this ….. many appear to be ex priests and nuns who have studied the intersection of church and civil society from a range of perspectives ….)
These experts are so far ahead of Coleridge it would make Jesus weep.
What Australian society has not yet understood is that something like the Sharia Law they fear so much, has been with us for centuries, in the form of Catholic Canon Law.
It has been adherence to Canon Law that has enabled Bishops et al to hide the abuse, comfortable in the knowledge that they are abiding by Canon Law, and stuff the civil law.
Even the lauded Pope Francis recent change of Rome’s view on these matters (discussed at the RC today) is a fraud. It holds that in matters of clergy abuse, church authorities must report matters to the civil law authorities in those countries where such reporting is mandated by law
So as far as Francis (or his cunning, evil advisers, like a certain Australian Cardinal recently ensconced in Rome) are concerned, kid victims are important only if it is written in civil law that they are.
So effing Christian of them!!!!
Nothing the Coalition likes more than kicking the those who cannot fight back .

End result. Dancing without touching became the popular art form.
Very healthy response. Means more choice as children not forced into bad situations.
Guytaur
I think your reaction is a bit extreme.
Lizzie
Its not my reaction. Just an observation.
Culture changed the dance form. One that had been going for ages of dances being with a partner. Since the 50’s that has changed to dancing alone.
Most prefer to dance alone not touching their partner as part of the form of the dance. Thus culture has changed so people are not forced by peer pressure and cultual norms to be touched by someone they don’t like

I must be very tired.
What does this mean, please?

#138 Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at 1:17 pm
Ok, I think.
Groping may be coming into fashion.
KJ
Before the 60’s it was expected at social events dances would be something like a Waltz. Today at a dance party very few waltzing. Certainly those dancing hugging each other etc are doing so by choice not because they are expected to dance with formal touching.
Its not a big thing. Just how things have changed in a subtle way.
KayJay
Much more opportunities for groping on a dark dance floor with noise fit to bust your eardrums.
Lizzie
At no point did I assert that groping was eliminated.
Guytaur
Best not to make sweeping statements about the customs of the past unless you were there.
Lizzie
I was commenting on the form of the dance.
In a Waltz you touch your partner as part of the form of that dance. In Social Balls there were dances where partners were passed around a line so you had a different partner all involved touching as the form of that dance.
Now that has been replaced by a form where the dance itself does not require touching. Thats all I said.
I did not even say the change was wholly part of it. I am just noting its a part.
What it has done is eliminate the formal expectation of how to dance.
That is simple fact because that is the form of the dance itself.
Lizzie.
Too much for me as eardrums in second hand condition.
I am a product of the 50’s I suppose when we were taught the placement of hands (not as I have previously suggested – right hand to ladies bottom) for the Waltz. Anything else was Greek to me.
Mutually agreed groping is another subject.
I am awaiting the favourite daughter to take me to the “Chemist” shop. I will consult with her regarding dancing.
I did teach her the “bum’s rush” which she lately suggests is a good method of getting me into the passenger seat of her car.
The horror behind all of this is that the users, abusers, will always be with us.
I am reminded of the old “Crosby, Still, and Nash” song “Teach Your Children”
