Tony Abbott fights for his political life for the second time this year, as Malcolm Turnbull makes his move.
Malcolm Turnbull, with Julie Bishop in tow, has reportedly met with the Prime Minister to request a leadership ballot. With only the weekly Essential Research looming in the way of federal opinion polling this week, that seems as good an excuse as any to launch a new thread.
UPDATE (Two minutes later): Malcolm Turnbull has resigned from cabinet.
UPDATE 2 (10pm): Turnbull 54, Abbott 44.

I wish Greg Jennet wasn’t acting as maitre d’ on ABC24. He’s such a non-event himself.
To paraphrase some Liberal leaker from a few days ago – Will Don Randall achieve in death what he couldn’t achieve in life?

Looking at a snap DD if Turnbull wins?]
I doubt it.
The highlight of QT was the question to name one MP who supports the PM, basically the backbench in camera shot went looking elsewhere.
Basically my response is a two word slogan
Good Riddance
I know I should have made it a three word slogan.
Is there a live feed of Turnbull?

Poor taste, I think.
Oakes also doesnt believe it was the PMO re cabinet reahuffle
Sky News BUsiness appears to be doing a live cross to Turnbull
briefly
Congratulations to you and all the ALP team that have contributed to the removal of the worst PM ever, worst than Bruce and McMahon
Now, the GG would be well within his rights to knock back a DD request if Tones comes running.

[A lot of them have vulnerable seats]
And that is why they want someone to help keep them.

TBA yoo hooo
Turnbull reckons Abbott has failed to provide economic leadership.
My only disappointment is that we can’t see him lose on election night.
Apparently the conservatives don’t get rid of first term PMs?
Did the right promise ETS and SSM in exchange for a rise in the GST?
Yikes, Turnbull has just trashed the entire Abbott government.
‘The PM not capable….’
Turnbull not mincing his words.
‘We need advocacy not slogans’
Now getting stuck into Shorten.
truthie has gone quiet 🙂
turnbull is in effect dumping on Abbott, and in turn dumping on Shorten
And yes, I have read all those comments for weeks saying that this is all a media beat-up. I wonder what they say now?
Turnbull already sounds far more Prime Ministerial than Abbott ever has.
Bye Tones.
Turnbull roasting Abbott to a crisp.
Turnbull sinking the slipper into Abbott.
Malcolm not holding back…
Turnbull spruiking China FTA and criticizing Bill Shorten for opposing provisions.
Not a great idea, Malcolm.
Ratsak
Burning him to an absolute crisp. Ouch

Hell hath no fury like a Bronnie scorned! I know, I think someone else already said that.
Is that plasterboard in Mals hair?
Yuz was all dumb as dog… fer votin for Tones.
dave@74
Catatonic probably 👿
Turnbull is going for broke… and pitching his speech at backbenchers. Which is significant if you believe he already has the numbers. I don’t.
guytaur
canning will most likely stay with the Libs
I’m putting good money on Turnbull having the numbers. An investment banker can count.
victoria
Yes. However the margin of the swing must be getting bigger by the minute.

“Abbott crashed on his way to Yarralumla and was last sighted throwing himself in the lake.”
DIOG – An investment banker can steal. Counting? Not so good at.
Geez Greg Jennett is hopeless…

Waiting for the new script from Big Brother.
Come on ScoMo, don’t let me down like that idiot Abbott. Throw your hat in the ring son. Get the nutjobs fired up!
turnbull was up to his eyeballs in the abbott government – its policies and its approach – he is on the record saying he supported all of abbott’s policies.
Turnbull did not mention climate change in his statement to the media. To me, that is the most important question about a Turnbull PMship. As someone else noted, he must have done a deal with the right wing nutters. And on climate change that can mean only one thing, sadly.
