Liberal leadership spill: act two

Tony Abbott fights for his political life for the second time this year, as Malcolm Turnbull makes his move.

Malcolm Turnbull, with Julie Bishop in tow, has reportedly met with the Prime Minister to request a leadership ballot. With only the weekly Essential Research looming in the way of federal opinion polling this week, that seems as good an excuse as any to launch a new thread.

UPDATE (Two minutes later): Malcolm Turnbull has resigned from cabinet.

UPDATE 2 (10pm): Turnbull 54, Abbott 44.

  1. The highlight of QT was the question to name one MP who supports the PM, basically the backbench in camera shot went looking elsewhere.

Basically my response is a two word slogan

    Good Riddance

I know I should have made it a three word slogan.

  2. [To paraphrase some Liberal leaker from a few days ago – Will Don Randall achieve in death what he couldn’t achieve in life?]

    Poor taste, I think.

  3. briefly

Congratulations to you and all the ALP team that have contributed to the removal of the worst PM ever, worst than Bruce and McMahon

  4. Turnbull is going for broke… and pitching his speech at backbenchers. Which is significant if you believe he already has the numbers. I don’t.

  5. turnbull was up to his eyeballs in the abbott government – its policies and its approach – he is on the record saying he supported all of abbott’s policies.

  6. Turnbull did not mention climate change in his statement to the media. To me, that is the most important question about a Turnbull PMship. As someone else noted, he must have done a deal with the right wing nutters. And on climate change that can mean only one thing, sadly.
