Bill Shorten’s personal ratings are also improved, his approval up four to 38% and disapproval down two to 41%.

My former father in law had two brothers killed in WWII, one shot down over France and one in PNG. He enlisted but never left Australia.
Each year he attended the dawn service in the country town he lived in. That was all. He had no time for RSL types.
Gallipoli is just a footnote to the rest of the world but as usual for Australians, it was all about us.
I think Australians Made up just 6 percent of the total troops involved, including Turks.

I had the same reaction when visiting a former concentration camp in central Europe. Quiet contemplation, and sense of despair. I didn’t need any grand speeches or a flag-waving crowd to tell me what to think.

I caught a part of a story on radio this morning in which it was claimed that Israel has more military aircraft and tanks than France and Germany combined! It is a Middle East military superpower.
I just anguish over what is happening there and nothing can excuse it. Nothing!
I’ve been putting some family history together for our kids and came across a letter written by my great grandfather to the War Office in 1920 asking for the War Medals, etc., for his son (my great uncle).
The letter is sad detailing how he fought at Gallipoli and then was lost at Pozzieres but expresses the pride my g/gfather felt for his 18 yr old son’s ‘valiant contribution to King and Country’. Aaaghh

A really suspicious person might think that right from the get-go the $250k was always understood as a personal bribe to agree to a deal not in the best interests of members, at least on the HSU side if not on the Peter Mac side too.
