BludgerTrack: 52.2-47.8 to Labor

The latest poll aggregate puts Labor back in parliamentary majority territory, as a new result from ReachTEL makes the Coalition’s strong result from Nielsen a fortnight ago look still more like an anomaly.

Following on from the thumping Labor lead in last week’s Newspoll, the addition of the latest ReachTEL to the BludgerTrack poll aggregate causes Labor to regain nearly all the ground it lost on the back of last fortnight’s Nielsen. However, with new contrary signals emerging through a shift back to the Coalition in Essential Research, it’s perhaps telling that the two-party trendline (displayed as always on the sidebar) looks as though it’s not sure which way to turn. Labor is now back into majority territory on the national seat projection, having picked up three seats each in New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland and a further one in the territories (i.e. Solomon). It’s interesting to note that the state breakdowns show emphatic swings to Labor except where they govern at state level, at least until next Saturday’s elections. On the primary vote, Labor makes a gain this week directly at the expense of the Coalition, while the Palmer United Party is up slightly on a post-election low last week. There is no new data for leadership ratings this week.

  1. [If Troy Buswell is in a clinic in Sydney, he must be unwell so he should be left alone. He will take time to recover.]

Jeff Kennett has saved the day for several Lib politicians on more than one occasion in recent years. A nice sleeper effort from Jeff who’s turned just being pissed-off, upset over something or sad about te break-up of a relationship into a multi-million dollar force field around any of his mates who just do Teh Stupid and look like getting caught.

I’m sure some people do get genuinely depressed.

But Buswell is just a bogan dickhead.

Is there a pill for that?

  2. I can’t see Clive giving Mordor more power. I think he’ll do anything he can to drive a stake through his heart.

Perhaps Labor & Clive could combine to introduce a bill to ban foreign ownership.

Wouldn’t that be worth the price of admission!

  3. Fran

Russia is in breach of a Treaty it signed. Russia sending troops into Crimea was wrong because of that. We typically call such actions an invasion.

  4. ru – I know the ALP were talking to the free-to-air networks about removing the 75% rule (which I think was where there was tension because it turned out one of them – 10? – was going to benefit a little more than the others so the others said “nup” or something like that), but I didn’t think the ALP were looking at relaxing the paper-TV-radio prohibition, were they?

But yes, the ALP were open to scrapping the 75% rule when they were in government, so they might want to at least negotiate over that … it is a stupid rule these days.

  5. Speaking of Clive.

I got a new DVD from him today, “Reclaim Queensland for Queenslanders” – Vote Alex Douglas for Qld Premier.

Feeling from “insiders” of all parties is the Qld election will be held this year.

  6. Troy is in trouble for this at least.

[The driver of a vehicle must report a traffic crash when the incident occurred on a road or any place commonly used by the public, e.g. carparks; and

the incident resulted in bodily harm to any person; or
the total value of property damaged to all involved parties exceeds $3000; or
the owner or representative of any damaged property is not present. ]

[First time I have ever heard that. The whole matter was discussed here on PB in much detail as it all unfolded and none of our SA PB contingent raised it. Certainly not “well known” in that context.
So “well known” to whom – broadly?]

I knew about the charges and her mental condition long before the media reported it. If I knew about it, everyone in politics and the media would have known about it.

  8. Twaddle

Just as most on PB are convinced that you and the other Libs are in league with Mordor and the full conspiracy of Murdock, big business, and men from Mars, so to will the opposition parties in Russia, Outer Mongolia, Fried Chicken ville or any other country you can imagine, will believe honestly (if wrongly) that the government they opposes is the worst ever and they are all in league with some imaginary monster, that the ballot is unfair, the media biased etc. It is known as democracy and only twits actually believe the twaddle stated by EITHER side.

    According to Figes

[The Treaty of Friendship and Co-operation – by which Russia rents its naval base at Sevastopol from the Ukrainian government – is so far-reaching in the rights it gives the Russians to exercise their military powers that it is seen by many in Ukraine to undermine the country’s independence. In 2008 the Ukrainians said they would not renew the lease when it expired in 2017. But they buckled under the pressure of a gas-price hike and, in 2010, extended the Russian navy’s lease until 2042.]

Was that the treaty you were talking about?

  11. Buswell is currently being described as “crash and breakdown” on local news.

Despite all his naughtiness he got an increased vote at the last election.

However, even Liberal Party mouthpiece on 6PR, Paul Murray, has just written him off, questioning the “What if he had not been reported by the two young blokes blah, blah?”

Also, “How come the damaged car was not known about/done anything about for 15 days?”

When your own side sticks the knife in, you know you are finished.

He has not, as I understand it, resigned from parliament.

Mind you, Murray is blaming Porter for running off to Canberra and leaving Barnett in the lurch.

Mike Nahan is now being touted as the new Treasurer whose economics, in opposition, was fundamentalist market-driven stuff. However he has barely said a peep in nearly 5 years while part of the government.

  12. Dio – Ta for that.

I cannot remember her mental condition ever being raised here until it was presented as a defence in court/ raised in the media and then the issue was well and truely ‘bludged’ every which way here.

At that time many here remarked and questioned how the charges had been keep so quite prior to the court case.

See comments by President Obama and Secretary Kerry.]

Why would I set any store by the observations of the mouthpieces of US imperialism?

  14. “One of the saddest lessons of history is this: If we’ve been bamboozled long enough, we tend to reject any evidence of the bamboozle. We’re no longer interested in finding out the truth. The bamboozled has captured us. It’s simply too painful to acknowledge, even to ourselves, that we’ve been taken. Once you give a charlatan power over you, you almost never get it back.”

I doubt it. A defence under the mental health legislation is not easily satisfied

There will almost always being some psych evidence in serious matters involving sentencing sometimes ordered by the court but that is to reduce the penalty.

At the top end of the scale there seem to a quite a few “not fit to be tried” in homocide cases

Maybe so, but the Liberals want it, Murdoch wants it, there’s no apparent public benefit so do what the. Liberals would do in opposition – oppose it in principle. Oppose anything that would strengthen the Liberal’s mates.

  18. “@ABCNews24: .@giacomonyt: US Republicans now so divided; they’re at war with themselves. All they care about is throwing spit-balls at Obama #TheDrum”

    Sounds familiar

Surely it was not a Tasmanian Election, it was a Federal one. Why would Tasmanian EC laws apply in a Federal Election?

  20. WA Police Commissioner has just told people how to avoid a DUI charge:

[Police Commissioner Karl O’Callaghan has revealed police were not aware of Troy Buswell’s involvement in what they thought was a regulation traffic incident until Sunday.

At a media conference on Monday the Police Commissioner said there was no possibility of a drink driving charge, even if Mr Buswell admitted he was under the influence at the time.

“If you’re talking about drink driving charges, there is no possibility of a drink driving charge if you are investigating it three weeks later, no matter what anyone says, if we don’t have blood alcohol readings,” he said.

“To prove {drink driving charges} you actually need blood alcohol readings. Even if you made admissions, what do I charge you with?”]

  21. [“To prove {drink driving charges} you actually need blood alcohol readings. Even if you made admissions, what do I charge you with?”]

You charge him with failure to report damage to property not owned by him, the gate and the car. Then charge him with avoiding giving a blood test.

  22. Scott

[Russia has to. The US does have military power and a history of using it.]

Well that’s an entirely different claim. Right now the Russians have answered that.

  23. Citizen

No he hasn’t . If you get stopped or have an accident and are Breath tested or blood tested at the time and you are over the limit you will be charged. If someone says they saw you driving pissed three weeks ago you will not be.
    Big difference

  24. Dave

I think there was an assault too.

I don’t think there is a hard and fast rule. It just a question whether a illness is motivating the crime and in the opinion of the judge the person is better dealt with by a recommended mental health plan than the criminal law.

I used it for an animal hoarder facing cruelty charges twice.

  25. dave

I knew about her condition as a few people told me she had an ongoing kleptomania and anxiety problem. I decided not to post it here.

  26. [Then charge him with avoiding giving a blood test.]

I think it is very hard to avoid something that no one is bothering to attempt to administer. It was late at night the police just couldn’t be bothered. I am no buswell fan but this is all on the police. Of course if the damage exceeds the statutory amount he may have failed to report and accident (if that law applies to single vehicle collisions).

One thing that is a little odd is the suggestion that hundreds of people have caprices registered to the government. I’m thinking there wouldn’t be that many and all of then would be driven by senior people in the govt or public service.

  27. [Of course if the damage exceeds the statutory amount he may have failed to report and accident (if that law applies to single vehicle collisions).]

The law applies to any damage to property owned by another. Buswell, by law, was required to report it.

She authorised a PUP advertisement for the Tasmanian Election.
    Clear enough.

  29. From what I’m hearing is that the Top Cop has said that “Buswell wasn’t on their database”.

    What utter bollocks!

Everyone with a drivers license is on the database.

Unless of course, he actually doesn’t hold a current license, in which case why was he driving at all, let alone driving while pissed as a newt.

The whole thing stinks to high heaven.

  30. [Buswell avoided an alcohol test by not reporting the accident, a crime.]

Actually ru, though i agree with you on that, i think they should just go with what’s completely provable in a court.

    ie:

[You charge him with failure to report damage to property not owned by him, the gate and the car. ]

The serious DUI stuff seems to be well and truly confirmed and in the public domain. That finishes him politically. If he was “electoral rat-poison” before what would he be best described as now?? The Chair Sniffing was really to unsavoury to be used against him very often, the Carles thing was to “personal”, but this is not. Any interviewer or opposing politician can pin him to the spot at any time with his serious DUI behaviour and make him squirm.

If its not going to result in jail time (which i dont think it would) then just go for what he can get done for with little or no argument and let him stew in the rest.

  31. If the damage is less than $1500 & no one was hurt then you don’t have to report it.

    Unless alcohol is involved

    Or dangerous driving

Or your mothers ex wifes, brothers, mate is a cop.

    Then you’re right
