Galaxy: 54-46 to Coalition

The first post-budget poll shows a negative reaction to the budget, but is otherwise one of Labor’s less bad results of recent times.

The first poll in the post-budget avalanche is a Galaxy survey of 1006 respondents showing the Coalition leading 54-46 on two-party preferred, from primary votes of 34% for Labor, 46% for the Coalition and 10% for the Greens. While it shows a highly negative reaction to the budget in terms of effect on personal finances (14% expect to be better off against 48% worse off), support for abolition of the baby bonus is remarkably high (64% in favour, 22% opposed). Full tables courtesy of GhostWhoVotes. Nielsen, Newspoll, Essential Research and Morgan should all be joining the party over the coming days.

  1. Unlike most of the cases of denial that we see Dio, this case has a last possible date of cure at least…..and it aint that far away!

  2. will the pbs be abolished,
    who knows

    My say:

You can think that Abbott will bring back conscription for his war with Russia, jail everyone’s third child, hike up the GST to 90% and charge for attendance at public schools if you like, but the voters aint going to buy the scare campaign.

    The ALP is scarier.

  3. It beats me why someone who thinks polls are crap and should be outlawed feels compelled to spend so much of his time on a site called Pollbludger whose raison d’etre is those very polls.

Then it will change from denial to contempt and hatred for people who didn’t vote Labor.

And then it will be that the voters deserve everything they get for not voting Labor.

And then it will be that the voters will come crawling back to Labor when they realise what they have done.

  6. Dio:

Been there and done that for all 3 here already!

Remember folks: the consensus from ALP bloggers was it was better to have Abbott and everything he does than Rudd

Some of us will not let you forget it! 🙂

  7. my say

You are a very bad advertisement for Christians. You hatred and contempt for people who don’t think the way you think are very unChristian.

    Please stop fabricating.

  9. Actually I think PollBludger should be renamed PollBludgerCommenterBludger because for some strange reason there is surfeit of commenters here this morning who wish to do nothing else except comment about other commenters.

  10. These guys are ratbags, how can Hockey blame Labor for wrecking the joint. They wrecked the joint, the great unhinging we have seen over the last 3 years, talking down the economy, creating a sense of chaos. They are so unfit for governing the country it’s a joke.

It would be interesting to know what the liberal core poll is less the nationals, 33%?

  11. Cassidy is slaughtering Hockey on the Liberal’s robbery of forgotten families’ superannuation nest eggs.

  12. I’m still trying to work out if Baghdad Bob is trying to convince himself or convince others that Labor isn’t on the road to ruin.

  13. for some strange reason there is surfeit of commenters here this morning who wish to do nothing else except comment about other commenters.

Well thank heavens you are here confessions, as you never do that do you? 😉

  14. Boerwar:

The Insiders makeup artist has done a fabulous job on HoJo because normally at this point in his interviews he is breaking out in a sweat.

  15. In terms of Abbott/Rudd: there are/were two rotten apples in Australian politics. Their fundamental operating principle is, ‘Give me the job or I will wreck the joint.’

    They are mentally ill.

Labor has got rid of its rotten apple. The only major question is when the Liberals will get rid of theirs’.

  16. mod lib and dio

what do u ever give this place
    where is your links
    to the wonderful abbott
    and our future,

    come on

only ever one liners of no value

    just like your dear leader

do u search the papers every morning
    for truths
    to put before the public

    do u .
    no
so, yes I get very upset about my country being

ruled yes ruled by a person
    like abbott
    .
but where are your links to abbotts policies
I have not seen one link that is about how good abbott will run thing

u come with sarcasim and smile faces
so u feel that a great contribution to democracy do u
    =====================================================
we have some one like Briggs this morning

demeaning the memory of every soldier that has ever
    died in this country
    will abbott be man enough
to kick him out of the l n p

    ===========
don’t hold your breath waiting for abbott to throw
    brings out of the lnp

I doubt a true libeal like Menzies would of stood for that

    ==================================
enjoy your day, well while you can
if abbott gets in I would think

will freedom be hard to find
    in our once great country

cry me a river because yes I cry every day
for the fear we about to have put on to us a

and it liberal voter I will think about
when people have no money no increase in pensins
    no good education
I want blame abbott I will blame liberal voters

  17. How come Hockey can only talk about Labor, isn’t he meant to be explaining the Noalitions budget position. Oh, wait a minute, they adopted Labor’s budget, I forgot.

  18. Boerwar

2,000,000,000 jobs and not one of them will be for the public service? Hard to imagine any will be given Abbotts zeal to reduce the public service

  19. The hate at Rudd on here is still very disturbing. Especially now given he’s likely going to be the only representation the ALP have federally north of New South Wales after the election … Unless of course he changes his mind about the leadership and starts swinging

  20. It is interesting that I find that stomach stapling has turned Hockey into a far more credible treasurer. How much we are misled by appearances.

BTW, Hockey admitted on Insiders this morning that he has no idea how much the Liberals are stealing from the forgotten families by way of robbing their superannuation nest eggs. OTOH, Hockey whinged that Labor was making up the numbers.

Well, here’s the thing. The take home message: Hockey and Abbott could not give a rat’s arse about the impact of their policies on millions of Australians.

  21. Well that was insightful. Not only did we learn that Hockey can’t stop talking about Labor, but he admitted himself he has not bothered to read the Gonski report on education reform.

  22. haydon

    what flash words

well, no the reason people spend time here
    IS NOT THE POLLS
what ever gives u that idea.
the reason is to spread the truth

come back when they poll the coalition

  24. DIOGINES And MOD LIB
We were discussing foreign exchange yesterday and I was wondering if you had got euros? before the dollar went down Mod?
For what it is worth I do take a fair bit of cash(which I managed to pick up the day the dollar dropped ie old rate ) I also take 2 different credit cards(this is for Sean) because once over on Greek Islands, couldn’t get money out the bank had changed something and our card were no longer being accepted for cash.Almost panic stations, we did have some travellers cheques, fortunately we knew someone in the bank who sorted it out after a few days, but no longer will depend on one card. I also take about $A1000
out , the dollar is very acceptable in most countries now. No longer take Amex travellers cheques as commission is charged even at a lot of Amex offices. I also go and visit a friendly money exchange place in Sydney I have dealt with for years a very good good rate and no commission

Finally have a great trip both of you. Diogines you are going to UK and Europe? great this time of year. I am as I said getting excited about going on the A380 for the first time. Didn’t get onto the Concorde, the only time had a chance on NY to Heathrow it was canceled and went on the 747-400 Finally one of my US twitter followers told me he had been on the Concorde 22 times, drool 🙂

    Insightful

  26. Haydn

why are the polls scared to asked about the coalition

essentials said they would, couple of weeks ago yet nothing

  27. Abbott and Hockey have had a fine time for five and half years telling lies about Labor.

Election time comes and the minute the MSM turns the blowtorch on their bellies, their lies come unstuck.

Their biggest lie is that they are there for ordinary Australians. Make no mistake, they are there for the finance industry spivs, the mining magnates and for Murdoch.

They have so little care that they did not spend a nanosecond counting the cost to forgotten families of the Liberal raid on superannuation nest eggs.

Hockey, who has no idea of the impact, was trying to tell us this morning that it would not be very much.

Not good enough for a wannabe treasurer.

The Liberal rubber is hitting the road and all that is happening is the smell of scorched forgotten family flesh.

  28. After 4 years of the Liberals touring the country talking down our economy, it is galling to hear them now talking about needing stability.

    Typical Liberal hypocrisy.

  29. Yes this site is called poll pludger

    the polls are being discussed

the reality is the opinion polls are done not by facts

  30. Mari:

Thanks, I hope you enjoy your trip as well. I am starting to get excited about my trip as well, particularly as I have had a crazy busy couple of weeks, and today is looking v, v, bad for me as well (probably about 6 hours work needed by tomorrow)!

Pity we are not crossing paths to have that coffee we discussed!

Yes, I have a few Euro and a few US dollars, from the peak time, but I wouldn’t worry too much about the currency exchange changes when travelling anyway. There are plenty of other ways you will get screwed when travelling! (Airport taxes, getting overcharged in markets etc etc) 😉

  31. come back when they poll the coalition

They are polling the coalition you d1ckhead.

It’s on the right side of this page.

    Confessions:

I look forward to the next 3 years of the ALP congratulating the LNP on its economic management. Otherwise, you are hypocrite, no?
